So Mr Muscle lands on a deserted island with a group of 3. He tells them everyone must do as he says or he will beat them up. Mr Ranger ignores him and goes off on his own. Mr Engineer and Ms Botanist tells him to **** off and they run off together.

Three days later, Mr Muscle is dying of thirst. He sees Mr Ranger (who is perfectly fine) fishing and tries to grab him to force him to give him water. Mr Ranger simply throws a crab at him and runs off. Since Mr Muscle cannot track anything, he gives up. Later he finds Mr Engineer and Ms Botanist near a makeshift shelter with a dew collector. He succeeds in grabbing them and tells him to give him water as he does not know what is a dew collector. Ms Botanist sets up the collector and gives him water after an hour. Mr Muscle dies from the odourless plant poison Ms Botanist put in his water.

Who is strong? Mr Muscle who could force his views onto others?

Strength is measured in various ways and one who is strong in one situation is a useless weakling in another

Mr Muscle couldn't enforce his view, so he was weak.
The others were more powerful than him, power doesnt mean strenght, there are different kinds of power.
They could fight back in their own way, so they had more option than submit or die.

Mr Muscle then tells them to make him water. Ms Botanist refuses so he beats her and kills her. Fearful of the same fate, Mr Engineer makes him a dew collector. Mr Muscle tells them to make him food. Mr Ranger refuses so he steps on his broken leg for fun. After a hour of torture, Mr Ranger agrees and with Mr Engineer half carrying him, tells Mr Muscle which trees give edible fruits

Maybe we were invited. Seriously. Over the billion or so years the reapers did their thing another civilization or civilizations had to have made the same trek. Perhaps they sent word of a safe haven and instructions on the tech necessary to get there. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the races we encounter originated in the Milky way.

The long dead Remnant in Andromeda might turn out to have been Leviathan Remnants who fell on a hard time on their own...

Maybe they brought or created or modified existing species of Andromeda, and now they are hated forbidden Remnants of that old Evil which noone should touch.
The Milkyway Explorers study the ruins, discover that they were very advanced and came from the milkyway....
Then the locals finds them and attacks for breaching the ruins of the ancient evil, the remnants of the evilmind invaders(Leviathans).

Later the Milkyway delegation tried to communicate with them.

MD: We come in Peace, why have you attacked us?

Natives: You have trespassed on the Remnants of the unspekables.

MD: According to what we could find out they were from the same galaxy as us and we would like to know what happend to them.

Natives: Then you will share their fate... *click* *Transmission ends*

And where I disagree with you?

Unless we meet Andromeda pirates, kidnappers, space cowboys, you know the "usual" bad people. Until we do something big good for the Andromeda colonies/ppl. they may use their guns on us. We wan't to claim their territory which does not belong to us.

I imagine an Andromeda "First contact War". It will punish them and us too.

Simple, because your thinking is at a single angle. If you "have to the power to enforce your view to the others" = strong while "die or submit" = weak ignores that situations will always change.

Those who understand that strength is temporary and situational, respects even those who are weak because one day those weak may become strong or needed and slights and mistreatments that the "strong" did from years ago will be possibiy repaid with interest

hardly, this universe will presumably be canon rather than glorified Hellraiser-SW crossover fanfiction.

Power will only change in a few specific ways like the situation you proposed.
If you lost it was because you were weak, if you won it was because you had the power to do it. There is no other interpretation.

@Syvlius the Mad: Are you seriously telling me you don't know the difference between a largely self-serving act... and an act that garners the only reward of you feeling good about the act? You draw no distinction between the two?

I think any distinction drawn between the two is arbitrary and lacks prescriptive force.

I feel like this argument is just an excuse to not bother doing anything that inconveniences you.

"Oh, I don't work at the soup kitchen because it's just a selfish act that makes me feel better." Sounds like pitiful reasoning to me.

I've spent my entire adult life working for non-profit organizations. Each time, it is because I like the work they do and think it is valuable, amd because I would prefer the world be affected by that work.

But I can't defend those preferences. Personal preferences aren't defensible.

A few specific ways? Those were just off the top of my mind to show situations influence what and who is strong. A few minutes of simple thinking would come up with a lot more situations and none of them need to be in a deserted island. But as the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink

@Syvius the Mad:  Of course you can defend those preferences regardless of whether or not you want to.

Your assertion that all preferences have equal irrelevance works the other way as well making each preference equally important.

I don't agree with you, but I do find it interesting that you claim to believe all preferences are equal... yet you felt compelled to inform me that what I was saying was incorrect.  What you do, does not suggest you believe what you say.

Yeah, normally the side with more money, technology and weapons is the winner side.

You're aware that no matter what you do... you're going to die, yes?

@Boost32:  So, by your definition of weak... everyone is weak regardless of the rest of your description of the terminology.

I'd argue your factors for "weakness" even if they were correct - might actually be ineffective in any sort of definition.

It doesn't matter. If it has a health bar, we can kill it.

If we want to fight against time? Yes, we can only submit to it and procreate to continue our specie.

Still thats not the only fight we battle in our lives.

Can't we just blend in with the natives?

Why? If they are weak we can dominate them.
