Salvage option

An armor piece crafted that's no longer usable would yield say a small amount of metal or whatever. And breaking down rares might yield materials for runes or such.
Considering crafted weapons and armors don't sell well (nor should they) being able to salvage such things would offer greater value.

Dont count on Bioware doing anything. They've got our money so they'll focus on ruining another franchise like Mass Effect.

I think this was actually cut from the game. It's in DAMP and there was a tweet from Weekes prior to the game coming out that alluded to it (he said something about how his Inquisitor needed to craft herself a new coat, so everyone else lost their armour). If this was the case I have no idea why it was cut.

Hopefully, it'll be something they'll consider putting back in. I admit I play GW 2 and the salvage kit is your friend!

I hope so. It could also be a good way of getting unique schematics, or even a way of getting schematics of regular armour (for example, you could salvage 10 superior battlemage coats and get the schematic after the 10th).
