Science fiction with aliens is just fantasy with a different type of magic set in space. If you accept the basic premise of the setting, taking issue with sexually compatible aliens is silly.
You have to draw some lines.

This is BSN; the Community is a cake....
Are you saying the community is a lie or is this an argument for cannibalism because I love me some cake?
This is what happens when you open the floodgates. When you say no one is excluded. When you target multiplayer audiences and tell people "theres no wrong way to roleplay"
Basically Mass Effect has just become another generic action game, and the community reflects that.
Well... nowadays, everyone seems to be like; "Why to have any SP?", "No more alien romances!", "We should be the vilain!", "Don't do any romances at all!", "All I need is PVP!", "Do we need a plot?".
I can't believe my eyes. What happened to this community?
And people are asking, what is destroying the old BioWare. We souldn't be blaming just EA and look in the mirror instead.
It all started with the starbrat
so yes you can blame part of it with EA and Bioware ![]()
oh and

Well, just as we have our heroes, we have our villains. The Talimancers are a wild bunch, rabid, quick to anger, and insatiable in their ways.
There are many stories of their ways, the Tali doll, the "anal" question, but none more so than the infamous Tali Sweat thread.
In the deepest darkest pits of the most feral of the Tali threads a question was posed "what would Tali's sweat taste like?" This could be no simple issue, nor could anyone say "why are you asking that?". An actual answer, with science was required.
This was the reply
The other fandoms recoiled in shock and horror. This was too far, even for the Talimancers. Shame had been brought upon them all and there was no going back. This was even referenced in the ME3 Citadel DLC by the devs, who one can only assume shared our horror at this.
I'm a Talimancer... good lord

I can't believe I'm about to ask this, but what was "the "anal" question"?
I'm assuming it went beyond something like "would she be into that?", which would still be fairly vanilla.
Speaking of old forums, I remember one user which was making threads few posts long plot analyzes and suggested proper interface and weapon system. He even made damn pictures of it, which looked like professional concepts. Guy had like twice of my IQ.
Miss him. Forgot his nickname though.
I saw some people in here talking about jade empire so it's not off topic. It won't work in windows 7. Already tried all the compatibility modes. The configuration tool crashes. Has anyone found a solution?
That actually is completely off-topic.
That actually is completely off-topic.
And what is the topic? That the community here is bad? You could improve it by being helpful towards your fellow.
I'll be helpful by pointing you to a place where that question wouldn't be off-topic: http://forum.bioware...68-jade-empire/
I do not think "If I accept one type of nonsense, I must accept any other type of nonsense" is an appropriate attitude to anything. Besides, I actually do take issue with the prevalence of humanoid aliens in the setting, and yes, I do wish that FTL travel was rationalized - as far as that's possible at all - in a less nonsensical way. I played the games in spite of that, and I played them in spite of interspecies romance. The latter just tops everything else in its degree of nonsensicalness, and it's the first I'd do away with. You're drawing the line in the sand at the wrong point of complete and utter nonsense. The entire premise of science fiction like ME is complete gibberish. That kind of space travel is - as far as we know - a complete and utter fantasy. The existence of other sapient races that are comparable to us is, again, utter fantasy at this point. The idea of a universal form of communication, back to nonsense.

Interspecies romance tops everything in the setting in terms of nonsensical? You find that hard to believe when there are actual people that screw goats and horses in the real world? Not that I'm saying it's comparable (the other species in ME are sapient and can give consent whereas livestock can't, and the "aliens" in ME are as near as makes no difference psychologically human), but how is that more difficult to wrap your head round than anything to do with lets say Element Zero, especially "biotics" (read: The Force) and an FTL method that still breaks the energy requirements of general relativity and is thus physically impossible? Especially in the case of asari, who can even successfully have offspring with other species.
The presence of several species of mophologically and psychologically similar humanoid aliens is much more difficult to rationalize than some of them having interest in banging each other. Moreover, it has been a staple of science fiction since at least original Star Trek which came out half a century ago, and is a trope that is present in just about every setting in the genre that has multiple humanoids. I'd think people would be used to it by now.

Everybody wants to get their Kirk on. Completely natural.

I guess people like different things. I don't think that should be a bad thing. And those sound like some troll threads. ![]()
I expect things will only get worse as we get closer to release.

I expect things to get way, way worse after release........
Funny though, I never thought this was a bad community.
Yeah, there's a lot (A LOT) of disagreements, whining, and griping.
That's the Internet in general.
There's also a lot of good-natured and enjoyable people here who ARE capable of discussing the things they enjoy about the trilogy, even while talking about the things they dislike.
I've lurked since ME2's release, and officially joined right before ME3 because I like the conversation on the BSN. Actually glad so many "old-timers" are still around, and participating.
You can blame ME3's ending and the overall attitude of Hudson and Walters and how they alienated core fans of BioWare and Mass Effect.
I would have hoped that hindsight would allow the community to be more honest about its role in damaging this forum and its relationship to BioWare than this.

Meh, the community got carried away, well more than carried away really. But Bioware's rather cavalier attitude towards the players certainly egged the community on.
There's fault to be found on both sides.

Would anything other than utter capitulation have satisfied such people re: BioWare's attitude? If you think so, then we'll just agree to disagree about this counterfactual.

Probably not, but I'd still like to know what went on behind-the-scenes with respect to the ending.
Not even from a standpoint of the responsible parties taking the blame, but some insight into why those parties really felt that was the best way to end the trilogy.
Especially if that infamous Penny Arcade post by Patrick Weekes was real and there was some dissension among writers.
I honestly find the whole thing fascinating.
