Meh, even at it's worst this community isn't anywhere near as trying as pretty much any forum about martial arts.

Bodybuilding forums are pretty crummy lol.

I can't speak for what happened to anyone else, but I quit drinking (because of where I currently live).

So I'm less funny now.

Move to a place that's a mile above sea level or more.  The lack of oxygen to the brain works just as well.  :P

...And people are asking, what is destroying the old BioWare. We souldn't be blaming just EA and look in the mirror instead.

EA it just doing what every company does, going for profits.

There is next to no information about ME:A yet, so posters are going to do what posters do;  Speculate, whine, and fight among each other.  Once more information drops it'll get better, the posters with speculate, whine, and fight among each other... oh wait.   ;)

biowares bottom line used to be the fans, profit and artistic integrity. each held up as its own pillar. now its cut content for dlc and corporate shilling.

That came to mind when I read that.

Any game created by BioWare before 2009 is true BioWare. Now EA has her. And there is the downside. I liked BioWare when she was flying on her own. Now she’s got this thing secretly pulling the strings in the background I do not want to talk about. It is like ship navigation error.

This vision of purity that people talk about would simply be dead and buried by now if they stayed out on their own, though I guess for some, being a corpse is preferable to changing with the times.

It works for some companies.  Just look at Square and their constant FFVII spinoffs.  At least they finally stopped jerking the fans around and announced the FFVII remake.  Which..yay.  Woohoo.  I get to hear a debate that has not be at all tired since 1996 all over again.

Pre-EA BioWare

Here is your fully dressed taco with a ice cold drink

Post-EA BioWare

Here is your taco shell with meet. But lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and others are DLC. Sauce comes in special packets. The ice cold drink only comes with a collectors edition. To get ice with the drink you need to pre-order, too.

You know, I ALSO lived a place a mile above sea level.

And now I'm at sea level. That's why I'm so mean. I'm lowlandy and sober.  :o

That's a joke. I'm not mean. Mostly. But yeah, I'd guess being between games and having nothing to discuss beyond RAMPANT SPECULATION and whether or not we love Johnny Cash (we should) is kind of hard on Bioware forums and sanity.

Wasn't Sony backing Square Enix for a number of years? Those are the same people who actually sold a dancing robotic egg that cost $400 for more than just a few months, and kept the MD player alive far beyond relevance. They might throw money at manure if it had an HDMI port.

I'm definitely with you there on preorder dlc and other kinds of bullshit like retailer specific armor sets but in pure content ratio this has never been much of a problem with bioware games post buyout, besides the production issues with DA2 all games post DA:O have a 40H+ campaign at a minimum if you don't just rush the main story, which is very comparable to bioware games ever since they made the jump to 3D.

Question the quality and design direction of the content but the ratio of it is a bit more unfounded criticism.

Apparently so.  Learn something new every night.   I'm not going to completely blame them for the crappy FF games that have come out over the last 12+ years, nor that Square went Michael Eisner on us and has been putting out FFVII spinoffs for the last 10 years, as well as an MMO that took a refund and full reboot to fix.  I'm sure Sony didn't help though.

People were talking about how the forum's culture was changing back before the BSN. The population grew, and the moderation didn't keep pace.

Some places I've visited have pretty tight moderation. A lot of it is automated, which could be something for large forums with lots of traffic and trouble makers. If someone says some things that catch the moderation filter, it gets locked.

If you be good and abide by the rules though, it's not too bad. Maybe that's part of the problem. There wouldn't be the need for much moderation if everything was kept on topic, by the rules and civil.

I'm more surprised at the change in tone towards Bioware.

This used to be a cess pool of hatred against anything and everything Bioware ever did, and now it's instead beating down on criticism. That is a very large change.

Aw but I like all the MP vs SP threads. Quality jimmy rustling there. It's like all those garbage MP threads thrown into the forum garbage can (off-topic). Better than off-topic's previous highlights of bathroom selfies and SJW panic, at least.

Wait, I missed another SJW panic thread? Aw, damn...

I've been playing BioWare games since 1998.  I've only missed Jade Empire and KotoR, and KotoR I'm going to give another shot (the graphics haven't aged well imho.)  I own all of the DA games and DLC and all of the ME games and DLC, other than Omega.

Why??? I mean, it's ARIA!!! Loved the DLC personally.

That said, I actually didn't play ANY of the DLC until a few months ago, hahaha. I was on a no-DLC protest crusade for years. Then decided that I might as well make an exception for my favorite game series of all time. I was only punishing myself with that. Besides, Xbox got rid of the Microsoft points, which was actually my main issue...

People are overreacting because of the cesspool the forums became after ME3 was released. It's bloody annoying, but understandable. And of course there are immature idiots and trolls on both sides of the debate. I was one of the people defending the endings back when the forums turned nasty, but I came to see that some people were making legitimate criticisms amongst all the rubbish. The more mature and rational people here will come to see some of the criticisms of MEA's change of setting are legitimate too (some already have, and Kudos to them), even if they still disagree.

I wouldn't be so confrontational about it, but I tend to agree with the people like Illuminatio saying Bioware have been going downhill since hooking up with EA. Making games which appeal to the broadest base possible to maximise sales has become an ever growing priority it seems. It's a good short term business tactic, but the games Bioware will be remembered for long term are their early ones.
