You mean from DA:O - Awakenings?  I think that would be awesome.

I would see things like having some sort of mage-styled AoE crowd-control, some kind of mage-styled CQC attacks, and Fade Cloak (because that's about the best CQC skill available to mages). Then toss a sprinkle of some signature warrior passives... Like Unyielding, Scenting Blood, and Flow of Battle. Flow of Battle might be a bit too much, but I can't remember what is the highest critical chance possible with gear alone (promotions ignored).

Maybe even give this Mage/Warrior hybrid the ability To The Death... that would be interesting...

Then why did it take the GS fix for you to post your build? No, it certainly was not.

It was posted before that.

In reality you've probably never played it without far more promotions than that nor without a top 5 staff and good accessories

LOL

While I got pyre of the forgotten early on, I've play with whites just fine.

My other thought on this:  Instead of reworking the AW, why not just actually create a new kit that is a melee/mage hybrid - like you want.  Every new DLC contains new kits - make this one of them.  I think this would also be more in line with your 'undisclosed' company variables / decision making process.

I think this is also the better idea because you are not replacing content (cutting out original and adding something to take its place), you are just adding new content - this is always better.

I don't see that happening, being that the Arcane Warrior is designed as a melee/mage hybrid from the get go. By leaving him as is (especially if Spirit Blade's damage isn't bumped up to something worthwhile) and making a new, better designed melee/mage hybrid character, the AW will be left behind as a failed character concept in an active game. In my opinion, that cannot come to pass.

I am surprised by all this Arcane Warrior discussions...Currently the AW is viable, some might say overpowered, but not perfectly balanced. What i am missing here is the fact we have so many threads about the AW and almost zero about other underpowered or unbalanced classes.

ErySakasegawa There is a difference in AW vs the other characters. I didn't start this thread to talk about underpowered or overpowered aspects of AW. I started to address that AW build are starting to be not AW due to the loss of direction so I wanted to bring that back to the fore. As to the other characters I see you started another thread so that is good to be addressed there.

Just to weigh in with my opinions on the AW as a whole:

I have a few ideas on how to fix both of these but they're basically completly new and if I'm going to do that I'd like to just rebuild the whole AW tree to make it more of a melee/mage hybrid.

Luke, Thank you this was what I was looking for a review and rethinking of the class to be back to what it was intended to be.

I don't need 'everyone' to use my build to be better, as it isn't a popularity contest. I only need to make it do better than the previous builds out there. On Perilous the non FS / SB builds did better on every important metric: Damage, Survival, Control and Exp. SB and FS builds did less damage, provided less exp and control of the enemy, as putting the enemy into eldtrich detonations, knockdown, weaken, shock, paralyze (xp), sleep (xp), into one spot (kill faster), and with team combos (more exp), provides a much more platform for faster killing and inherently generates more support exp as Chill (frost step) / SB (blocked) does not.

Drasca use other threads for which AW build is better than others. I believe you have some excellent analytical skills but no common sense here. This thread was to do bring to BW attention exactly the thing everyone including you are doing. Building AW such that he is no longer a hybrid warrior/mage and to see if we can bring that aspect back, probably your analytical skills can work well with whatever new ideas Luke is thinking about to see if those are properly positioned in terms of active and passive abilities for the game.

I thank everyone for their input, hopefully the AW will be once again a Arcane Warrior
