Krogan I don't know. Charr was sweet, however, so I think with good writing of the character it could work. I'd prefer a female Turian or male Quarian (a BI Quarian would be great. But if gay, no matter. Second run romance instead of first )

._. It wouldn't work in the bedroom anyway, Krogan weigh twice what any normal human would. You'd get smushed under a leathery hide of disgusting reptile flesh *shudders*

That said...

I wouldn't mind a more humanoid species that fits within reason, I mean for goodness sakes a Turian would be more practical here.

Who said I was thinking about it at all sexually when I mentioned it? I just think it could have some fun content I don't really care if a krogan romance has anything sexual in it I want to focus on what fun things could be done with it. That said I don't ever expect one to happen so I'm sure you never have to get grossed out by icky Krogan loving  ;)

A krogan would be nice. One that is more calm would be a nice contrast to the ones we had, like Charr the krogan romantic. But I'm also excited about the new races. Maybe someone natively from Andromeda who joined our party to help with exploration?

Ha I admit I almost forget about new aliens all the time^^; That is a great point though and would be pretty cool, can see a lot of potential in that :)

Kaidan's gay romance isn't any more fake than his straight content, and isn't even remotely comparable to Tumblr shipping. Unlike fans pairing their favorite characters who never actually hook up on screen, Kaidan does sleep with a guy if the player has Shepard pursue him. Kaidan can also express interest in Male Shep in ME3, even if Shepard isn't interested in him. That makes him canonically bi, and not playersexual.

It also doesn't matter that Kaidan never mentions prior male lovers. Maybe he's dated more women than men (being bi doesn't necessarily mean you don't have gender preferences), or he's always been attracted to men but hadn't acted on it before, or maybe he was closeted into the Reapers came knocking with the whole end of the world business. Who knows, and who cares. We don't really know the detailed dating history of any potential LI in the game, nor do we need to.

You're last sentence implying that I'm emotionally invested in Kaidan's sexual preferences. I'm not. My canon Shep's LI was Liara, and Kaidan died on Virmire, way back in 2007 before his sexuality was even a topic of discussion. I just find the anger and denial some players have over Kaidan also being into dudes somewhat amusing.

It's like the point just keeps flying above people's heads.  People are so desperate for this they'd rather sit there arguing how a "gay" romance with a character who shows no inclinations towards being gay at all is "totally proof this guy is bi!", instead of maybe getting mad that people got some crummy halfassed thing slapped on to appease them, instead of putting real pressure on Bioware to do real gay romances and not this copout garbage.   This IS the same as those goofy fangirls, it's no better because they're just as desperate and eager to use anything as proof even when it makes no logical sense for the show or characters.

Why wouldn't you?

This is the internet where 90% of its content is erotic in nature or outright porn.

A fair point. I guess my mind is currently on the track of that other 10%? I try to avoid thinking about sex when it comes to Krogan romances for many reasons though

I actually hope a big chunk of the party is composed of new races. We had 3 games (or 2, in the case of drell and yahg) to explore the alien races. I'm just ready for something new (not that I'm against a krogan romance, or for other people, a quarian one).

You're entitled to your opinon, but Kaidan is bi (or pan, whatever best describes him). As good as BioWare is, the characters they make are just video game characters. You're drawing too much into it. Kaidan was straight in 1+2 but made/revealed as bi in 3. That's it really. Honestly, I'm not sure if you're trolling or not. If so, people certainly keep on taking the bait.

I'm disappointed in myself for taking the bait.  I'm usually much better about that.

instead of putting real pressure on Bioware to do real gay romances and not this copout garbage.

Some people are perfectly entitled to request of BioWare to do this, others do not. I personally do not feel like I need to demand more from BioWare in terms of gay romances. I haven't played the Dragon Age series so can't comment on that, but as for Mass Effect, I was happy with Kaidan's romance for a Male Shepard, not matter what other people's opinions may be. Some can want more and feel BioWare shouldn't copout, others like me don't have to. I don't have to get mad or put pressure on BioWare if I am fine with the content they are creating.

Now, I personally believe that this whole Kaidan is bi, Kaidan is straight, going round in circles palava, has exhausted itself. If people want to carry on the good debate, and continue to pursue this discussions, then there should be a separate thread created for it, or alternatively go to another thread that has already been created that discusses this (I am sure there has been one in the past  ).

I feel I owe a personal apology to the original poster for having contributed to the derailment of this thread's actual topic, and am going to ensure I stick on topic from now on regarding the potential of LGBT aliens to romance for LGBT players in Mass Effect Andromeda  :)

And... yes to krogan  ^_^

There are more pressing topics anyway then boring old Kaidan.

Hahaha, oh, I laughed too much at that than I should have done.

Lol I actually liked Dr. Brynn as one of the many doctors in danger throughout the Mass Effect trilogy. I'm sure those who romanced Jacob in ME2 were out for her though

Interesting though, I wonder if there are elements like this that are going to be featured in ME:A romances? The possibility, that your LI gets won over by somebody else and you have to fight to win them back. Mills and Boons type drama in space  -_-

Just my thought on the general topic: The thing is if it wasn't for people pressure, Kaidan wouldn't even have been available for gay romance or any gay romance in the first place, so it's important to bring it up. Demand is the wrong word, but more like bringing attention to the issue. Now, regardless of whether Kaidan is straight or bi, one thing is certain, in the next game, the bi LI needs to mention at least some attraction to guys. Something that almost every developer out there fail to do for bi option. The bi guys almost always talk about opposite sex only. It's perfectly acceptable for the bi character to have a preference, but it's a pattern when almost every characters only talk about opposite sex. This is why I hope in the next game, maybe a bi guy who actually has a preference for the guys. That would actually be a fresh change of pace, although I would be happy so long as the bi character does not screw anything that move, Bioware LOVES that type of characters.

Back to the gaylien, would Bioware show alien intimacy though? I feel like it would be pretty risky. Liara doesn't count since she's basically human with blue skin, but I'm talking about Krogan, Turian with lizard tongue and sharp teeth, would they show them rolling around the bed, kissing, and hugging like with the "human" options like Liara, Kaidan, and Ashley? Would the sex scene would be fade to black with aliens to avoid controversial though?

On your first point:  Agreed.  I would really really like to see a bisexual male have a preference for guys and I also really wouldn't like to see another promiscuous bisexual trope for a while.

On your second point:  How did it work in ME3?  I've never romanced any of the aliens.  Do Garrus and Tali do fade to black?  I'm pretty sure Tali does but that might be because of the whole suit issue.  What do they do for Garrus?  My gut is a fade to black on any alien who isn't squishy and mostly human in shape/size.

Garrus is a fade to black as well and is waiting fully clothed and reading something in one of the chairs in the final romance scene when Shepard wakes up if I recall correctly.

I think the alien romances will be fade to black probably to save on resources I guess at least the less humanoid looking ones.

If my memory is right, I can confirm that it is fade to black in the Garrus romance. After the nightmare sequence is over, Shepard wakes up on the bed in her undies while Garrus is lounging in a chair in his casual clothings while reading something.

All the aliens have fade to black. With Thane, we get to see a kiss back in ME2. I think they just try to avoid possible controversy that could arise from showing alien sex, which I disagree, nothing wrong with cuddling and tumbling before fading to black. It's not like they ever show actual humping, a little hugging and cuddling, the foreplay part that lead to sex like with Kaidan, Ashley, and Liara wouldn't hurt.

Nope. And nope. Bisexual means he's attracted to men as well as women, and there's no evidence of any attraction to men besides that weird obviously slapped on fake gay romance in ME3. The one that lacks content compared to the actual normal romance. The one people defend with vague and dubious evidence such as "in this one scene, the lights were kinda dim, and I swear I think Kaidan was kinda sorta maybe eyeing my BroShep, totally bi man!" Come on now, that's just sad. I mean, this is like reading one of those Teen Wolf fanpages where some girls swear up and down Stiles is gay and into Derek because in one scene he kinda smiled at him for half a second. The evidence isn't there, just accept it.

You clearly don't understand how being bisexual works. Being bi doesn't mean you're attracted to all men. It might not even mean you're attracted to most men. People get this confused.

I'd imagine there probably wouldn't be controversy were there to be the option for a female protagonist to romance an alien with no fade to black during the love scene. But going by the trend of controversy with Mass Effect games (controversy for ME1 over being able to have romance a character and get a love scene, controvsery for ME3 for featuring same-sex relationships for men) were there to be gay aliens, and a love scene that didn't fade to black? Yep, probably controversy with a good dose of straight gamers asking BioWare to stop putting LGBT agendas and aliens in there games and make it 100% hetero.

I honestly think alien intimacy shouldn't be discouraged, since it isn't like the player character is the only one who initiates. The asari can pursue romantic relationships with every species, so... I don't know how BioWare would handle this.

So bout them gay alien romances huh? Someone mentioned a Krogan as a possible one I think? That'd be pretty cool, and if they are in the game as well a male quarian might be pretty interesting too imo. Probably will never get any kind of Krogan romance but eh a girl can dream.

I'm still hoping for Drell for both gender, but it doesn't seem to be that popular choice. I guess Turian- either gay or lesbian or (badass) Asari would do as well.

Though I'd be okay with Salarian or Batarian as well. Somehow not really into idea of Quarians and Krogan is nope for me. No idea about new alien races yet.

Depending on the alien in question, I'd actually prefer it if there was a bit more of the alien side in the relationship:

To provide an example: I liked how in Mass Effect 2's romance scene between Shepard and Garrus it looked like they were gently touching foreheads as a replacement for kissing before it fades to black. It was a nice gesture that worked to convey the same as a kiss but also managed to convey it in a way that acknowledged that one part of the relationship was an alien and showed the alien aspect of the relationship alongside Garrus' comments.

I was rather disappointed that rather than continue this in Mass Effect 3 they decided to resort to mostly human gestures. I felt like the alien aspect of the relationship was neglected in favor of relying too much on the human aspect. It took a lot of the alien out of the alien romance.
