I'd argue that Ashley, Kaidan and Jacob (in ME2 at least) were the most "normal" of the bunch. And even then, Jacob's personal mission involves his dad doing terrible things to others. Yeah, enough is enough already!

I dare to say Garrus too had quite a normal family. A little conflict with his father about his career, but resolved by the time of ME3 (and without Shep's help!). His mother was sick by the time of ME2, but I can't remember how it went. And his sister was running away from the Reapers in ME3.

It's not just you. Most of the LIs have had some sort of either parental or relationship issues, usually involving someone dead. Just looking at the ME games alone:

Steve--Dead husband, PC helps him get over it.
Samara*--Okay, so it's a bonus LI, but she's got daughter issues and blames herself. Has to kill one of her own kids.
Liara--Mom was working for the bad guy, and she had to kill her.
Thane--The ultimate hat trick of misery. Dying, dead wife that was due to his job, estranged son.
Miranda--Daddy issues doesn't even cover it.
Jack--Enough said.
Tali--Seems to be estranged from her father, and her mom is dead.

I'd argue that Ashley, Kaidan and Jacob (in ME2 at least) were the most "normal" of the bunch. And even then, Jacob's personal mission involves his dad doing terrible things to others. Yeah, enough is enough already!

Kelly has no family trauma. Same with Samantha, though it did get close since her parents were on Horizon when the Collectors attacked.

Garrus and his father had a disagreement of philosophies, but it never hurt their relationship.

We never really hear how his mother's illness was in ME3, but he tells us his family got to safety so it seems they are all alive by the end of the game.

I agree and I should have caught it sooner. I apologize for the oversight and considering I'm a Garrus fan, I have no good excuse. I'd argue that while Ashley isn't as bad, she couldn't just be a marine, she was a marine overcoming old family shame. I'm glad that it wasn't one of the focuses of her story

With regards to Kelly, I guess I should have mentioned her. I tend to forget about her (sorry guys.) Oh and Samantha. She had no real trauma in her past, and has a good relationship with her folks. Like I said though, most of the LIs in the ME series had serious issues.

I never really thought about the ME characters too deeply a lot of the time, more focusing on the game itself, but it's true in general many characters in the ME series certainly have a kind of "plagued traumatic" bent...

I don't know though, lots of people all over the place have conflict and sadness in their hearts, there is a also a strong hopeful side as well, a kind of heroism.. to the point in the ME series as much as the sad elements is the other hopeful side, they are... forces in opposition... in much of the games.

Good to know  :) It's been quite some time from the last time I played ME3 (still can't digest the endings and some things) and my memory is not very fresh.

Lips, chin, nose and kinda eyebrowns as well remind human face and their body is lot closer to humans in shape and size as well and those alien races.

thane4.jpg

+ they have pretty inhumane eyes and skin.

Only thing similar look-wise that Turian, Salarians and Krogan have is that they walk on two feet. Maybe some expressions if we want to go there.

I don't think a chin is distinctively human. I think ultimately to me the eyes and brow are very important to being human, certainly as much as a nose and lips.

Essentially, the upper part of the face looks totally and irreconcilably alien to me. And the lower part -especially because of the cheeks and the varied colour scheme - also looks pretty alien to me. A mouth and lips (and nose) just aren't enough to get you back over the hump.

I agree with wanting new aliens in our squad - and honestly just more alien squadmates in general - and the idea of a native Andromedan assisting us when the rest of their galaxy is antagonistic would defs be interesting to me, especially as a romance.

That or a Batarian. Because I think it's time, BioWare.

Aw tabarnak! I come back to this thread and find The Chipettes at it again.

Quit bringing me up in your stupid arguments with other people mean girls, cause' it aint cute.

Okay, chill. The main issue is that you have consistently claimed that despite Kaidan factually being bisexual in ME3, it's not true. It is. It doesn't matter if you like it or not, or even what we consider his sexuality in ME1 or ME2. You can consider it a retcon, you can consider it in bad taste, you can consider it anything you want. But claiming that in ME3 Kaidan is not bisexual is false.

I don't know why you are so set on trying to disprove this and insult people who are just stating this simple fact.

Let me guess, you're just fine with your friends people being snide and bitchy and insulting toward me because they dislike what I'm saying though, right?

That said, I'm bowing out of this thread for a while until these slack-jawed morons find something else to fixate on. Maybe you can actually get back to talking about a gay alien romance.

Since you can't seem to post without name calling anybody who doesn't agree with like that please stay bowed out. - TYxoxo

Dude.  You were on my profile as "The Boss" a few minutes before "Bliss" posted about my profile content.  And, lo and behold, "Bliss" has never been on my profile before.  Then you show up a few minutes after "Bliss" logs out and support all of his points using the same exact language and logic.  Even your insults:  I'm a gay stereotype.  I have people liking my posts.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this stuff out.  Feel free to have as many ghost accounts as you want.  Just be better at it, please.  Or don't because at least it makes it easier to know who to ignore.

I Babe Ruthed your bad self back below your bridge on my own account just fine judy.

Yes, people do exist outside your clique and lots of them find your attitude just as repugnant as I do.

I think at the end of the day, while our opinions are different, what we all want is the same thing which is better written bi characters. The one fact for certain is that bi characters haven't been handled well by Bioware in ANY game. This is why this discussion is happening in the first place. People want a better portrayal of the bi characters in the game.

Considering that you have been personally attacking daveliam and using stereotypical gay terms like Judy and mocking his presumed age, over a discussion about a video game character I do take offense to your posts. I do like most of dave's posts sure, but I would be commenting on anyone coming under your personal attacks on this issue.

Plus, you know, the fact that everyone in this thread disagrees with your assertion that Kaidan is not bisexual in ME3.

Personally, I judge on 'how would this character likely be portrayed on-screen,' meaning would their design require a live actor or CGI. And I'd say that drell would probably be a live actor, maybe with some motion capture on their face in the vein of like Voldemort and his lack of a nose in the Harry Potter movies at most.

At least, that how I measure it.

What do you guys prefer for the personality of a gay alien LI? I liked Steve's personality in ME3 a lot. He's into cars (well, shuttles and ships,) football, and once you help him with his past, is very laid back. He's also got a nicely dry wit and a great chemistry with Vega. I bought their friendship, and seeing him and Vega watch a game together in Citadel was my second favorite part of the DLC.

Sorry I didn't realize your posts about some Pokemon character was on topic. My mistake. I shouldn't respond when people direct comments at me.

For the personality of a gaylien, I really just hope whatever culture they come from, homosexuality is not an issue and the romance is just about their personality. I don't want another Dorian where his whole schtick is about his sexuality. I would love someone who was in their military before leaving the galaxy or else military intelligence. I don't want them to be a Han Solo rogue. They can be a badass without being a criminal.
