What do you guys prefer for the personality of a gay alien LI? I liked Steve's personality in ME3 a lot. He's into cars (well, shuttles and ships,) football, and once you help him with his past, is very laid back. He's also got a nicely dry wit and a great chemistry with Vega. I bought their friendship, and seeing him and Vega watch a game together in Citadel was my second favorite part of the DLC.

I actually really like Steve. And that voice - the gorgeous Matthew Del N.egro. I just wish he had been a squadmate instead of an NPC and didn't suffer from Character Creator Face. I probably would romance him way more often instead of Kaidan. I'm a sucker for the Normandy goodbye scene.

Sorry I didn't realize your posts about some Pokemon character was on topic. My mistake. I shouldn't respond when people direct comments at me.

For the personality of a gaylien, I really just hope whatever culture they come from, homosexuality is not an issue and the romance is just about their personality. I don't want another Dorian where his whole schtick is about his sexuality. I would love someone who was in their military before leaving the galaxy or else military intelligence. I don't want them to be a Han Solo rogue. They can be a badass without being a criminal.

The keyword was "toxic" not "topic" :) At least you caught the vibe, good boy.

I've kinda fallen in love with the idea of an introverted quarian guy, who is uncomfortable around people, which is very difficult to maintain in the flotilla setting because space is at a premium. You know, a shy guy, bit of a dry sense of humor, but also, due to his outcasted nature, kinda self-depreciating as well and prone to saying the wrong thing because he sometimes trips over social cues.

I mean, I'm also trying to tell myself not to be too attached to this idea, since we don't even know the makeup of the characters we're going to get, but it's a character I really don't see that often. Usually, introverts in media get shown as having something wrong with them, and I don't want to see this as a 'give him some confidence and watch him bloom into an extrovert.' If an introvert stays an introvert, they tend to be female and it's seen as cute and endearing that they're only opening up for their (predominantly male) love interest. Guys? Not so much.

That's my ideal choice, anyway.

I'd like a jerk for a romance, specifically a jerk with a heart of gold, someone who is cold to everyone, but once you get to know him, he becomes very fiery loyal to you. Someone like Danse from Fallout 4. He can rub people the wrong way, but his romance is very sweet and warm and he devotes himself to you.

Another personality would be someone like Alistair and MacCready, a manchild, who is funny, sarcastic, dorky, and like to make puns and make a fool of himself. Someone that makes you laugh often.

In term of alien race, I actually really hope to see a purely male alien race. It could actually add an interesting dynamic to the relationship like another male from another race and how they would be perceived in the culture. Maybe unlike Asari, they would be against interspecies relationship for one reason or another or never have it happen before, maybe the aliens reproduce asexual or mixing DNA in some ways before creating an offspring, which would make the aliens to be their children instead of their clones.

I would be down for an introvert LI for a male. I agree that most introverts have been females, even super nerd Mordin was fairly extroverted. Plus the introvert vibe clashes with the stereotypical sassy gay that a lot of people think of.

They said they would reproduce asexually.

Like the Asari, judging from his post only without the need for a female partner. Or for an all-male race, it could be like male seahorses. They are the gender for that species that gives birth, so the BW team could figure out something along those lines. <shrug> Like the old show Alien Nation.

Or they could reproduce asexually (like by mitosis or something like that) but still enjoy pleasures like food and sex. It's an interesting idea for sure.

I think that's why I liked Steve so much. He's not flamboyant, and he strikes me as a little shy and uncertain. Also, he (can) have a good friendship with hetero Shep/FemShep, and has one with Vega, but he doesn't seem like the "life of the party" kind of guy. I think we need to see more of that, for sure. Both for LGB and straight romances.

I mean along the lines of giving birth, without female reproductive organs

I think sea horses just carry the eggs with them, it's still the females that produce the eggs. Mitosis is an option, but IMO that would be more for an asexual species. Not that I'm against an all male species, just that biologically it doesn't seem possible. What we consider male is specifically something with male sex organs, which are not capable of birthing children. If it's a male species but it has a womb, I would consider the species hermaphroditic rather than pure male.

Something akin to mitosis, the body start to divide into another body, or throw it up or something, these are aliens, so there are different ways that may seem unconventional. The Namekian from Dragon Ball reproduce asexually, and they are all purely male race. As I said, in a pseudofiction world, so something like a mixing of DNA through touching or something like with the asari or some kind of way of attaining DNA from their partner would be possible. Maybe their gene is more prone to mutations and changes which would produce variation in appearance and physiology.

Here's an idea, and forgive me if this sounds weird. Okay, weird even for me. ;)

What if there was a race that was all male, but who could change gender if needed for population? Like some types of frogs that are capable of doing that. However, it doesn't mean that all males do, and it could still be quite possible to have an Asari-like race of all/mostly males. There still is plenty of room for gay characters, and it could blend just enough of the science fantasy of the ME series with some real world science.

...I just blinked and realized I was having this conversation with a straight face. I think I need coffee.

That's not weird, actually, it's an actual race in Marvel universe. Skrull functions exactly the same way you describe. In fact, Hulkling was originally supposed to be a female Skrull that take on the male appearance to date Demiurge, so she were supposed to be a female who change her gender to make herself compatible with her boyfriend. The editor said to just change it to 2 gay males instead to make it less complicated. Another example would be from the Runaways where a male Skrull turned into a female to be with another girl since Karolina is a lesbian.

While I do like some of these ideas, I don't know if I trust BioWare to make a monogendered species without them being too similar to Asari. Considering how BW treats male sexuality, we may never learn how they approach sexual/romantic relationships

As for personalities of LIs, I've always liked contrasts/complements in relationships, where the people involved learn from each other and grow together. And I'm with Battlebloodmage, when it comes to specifics I love me a tough guy with a soft heart. Bonus points if he's easily flustered.

Considering that you have been personally attacking daveliam and using stereotypical gay terms like Judy and mocking his presumed age, over a discussion about a video game character I do take offense to your posts. I do like most of dave's posts sure, but I would be commenting on anyone coming under your personal attacks on this issue.

Plus, you know, the fact that everyone in this thread disagrees with your assertion that Kaidan is not bisexual in ME3.

200_s.gif

You just mad that I have more teeth than dave and bite harder cause' you sure didn't have a problem while he was being snide and getting all personal with me.

Except the multiple people who did agree with me.

We done yet quuurl? I thought this thread was just going back on track soooooooooooooooooooooo.

ANYWAY

A jerkish rough-around the edges brute who's a big teddy bear underneath for a LI would be great.

I think it would require a really steady hand to execute properly though, because of how easily those personalities end up feeling very cliché or turning into a tsundere.

We seriously need an Asari like race but all males, that has the potential to be amazing.

Yeah, I prefer Chansey myself.

What about

NCGRmsg.png

I don't think a chin is distinctively human. I think ultimately to me the eyes and brow are very important to being human, certainly as much as a nose and lips.

Essentially, the upper part of the face looks totally and irreconcilably alien to me. And the lower part -especially because of the cheeks and the varied colour scheme - also looks pretty alien to me. A mouth and lips (and nose) just aren't enough to get you back over the hump.

I guess Drell eyes being alien don't matter to me cause I find them fascinating. They often appear all black, but in light you can see irises and color :D

What do you guys prefer for the personality of a gay alien LI? I liked Steve's personality in ME3 a lot. Depends on alien race. I'd like Drell being there for themselves and having lot of confidence- but being bit dorky as well- bit similar as Han Solo, Star-Lord, McCready etc. If there is Asari option for both genders I would want them to be hardass commando- opposite that Liara was. I think gay or lesbian Turian would fit as KISA, someone who is more model Turian than Garrus was- and Turians are often intimidating in good way, I'd want them to be bit of "respect my authority" kind of characters.. maybe somewhat similar to Cassandra. I would like Salarian that isn't scientist, someone who has seen lot of battle is bit cynical cause of it. Quarian same as Salarian really if there is one. In terms of Batarian I'd like someone who follows their own way, is unapologetic about being Batarian, but isn't really evil themselves- maybe mercenary.

What about an ovipositor? The female doesn't have to give birth to their offspring, merely allow it to be incubated in a host - parasitic wasp style.

Since ME already has Asari simply using the genetic material from their partners as randomisation data you could have a race that, ostensibly, appears to be male but simply lays an egg in the body cavity of choice of their partners/victims when they couple. The egg hatches inside the host and undergoes a metamorphosis where it ingests some of the host material and uses that to randomise the next stage of its life-cycle.

Depending on how bleak you want to get, that parasite could then, through chemical control, manipulate the emotions/behaviour of the host almost turning them into a drone/slave - paralyse them and eat them from the inside out - or just be born in the "normal" way.

Each individual of the species would be able to reproduce without the need for any other of its kind. They would all be female insofar as they lay eggs but physically they'd appear more masculine as there's no need for a womb or mammary glands - instead there would be a penis-like ovipositor.
