Iron Bull isn't bisexual though, he's pansexual. Josephine is bisexual. And in DA the male bisexual LI, even if you want to count IB, are him, Zevran, Anders and Fenris. Half of them aren't promiscuous.

Though for you point, yes, it'd be better if they don't make it the male romance available to both genders promiscuous.

Pansexual is just a broader definition of bisexual. In term of sexualities, bisexual, gay, and straight are the 3 basic ones, pansexual, demisexual, asexual are just still variations of that one.

I said canon bisexual, there was a whole ordeal with DA 2 developer said that they were supposed to be sexual ambiguous and let the player decide, which is why Anders' scene with Karl only happens with maleHawke, it was before the fan complains about bi erasure that they decide to make them all bisexual.

When you look outside of DA2, there's a promiscuous bisexual in every DA game, Zevran, Isabela, and Iron Bull. One of the things with bisexual males in Bioware games which I have talked about many times is that they always prefer the opposite gender, Zevran basically said just that, Kaidan only commented about women, Iron Bull outside of Dorian/Inquisitor, often talk exclusively about women with Sera and the maids and the likes. I just don't like how they handle bisexual males so far, I want a bisexual male that may even prefer men more. We already had bisexual women who prefer women more.

I kinda like how Cassandra was a bit cautious, and actually give negative disapproval if you hit on her. There are people that are bi-curious or didn't realize their sexuality until the right person comes along. It happens in real life all the time, but it just didn't get enough attention since some may see it as "choosing" to be gay. I believe in the Kinsey scale, some are just more likely to be gay or straight than the others. Some could be completely straight. For a bi character who is more straight leaning, they may not engage or even flirt with any of the same sex. If they actually want to make believable bi characters, instead of playsexual, then certain bi characters should have different scenes and different reactions based on the gender. For example, the bisexual guy may be nervous and blush around the girl, but when it comes to another guy, he may treat him with more confident and more friend, bro-like attitude that later turn into love. The relationship dynamic is never explored in any of the bisexual characters ever. It's usually just much easier to save resource by making the same scenes with the exact same dialogue for both genders.

I totally agree, actually, what I posted was inspire from someone I know. I like that you can fall in love for the person first and not the gender. I think it's just wonderful.

I also totally agree about how the bi LI should be treated. I wish they could put enough ressources for making different kind of sequences if a bi character is romanced by a man or a woman.

I don't play ME for LI but I have to admit they are part of my immersion on the game and story. I was so hype with Garrus, it helped me to care even more for the story.

Thanks for this nice exchange :)

For promiscuous characters create a brothel to solve both problems @ once. Win-win.

Oh! BTW I'm just wondering since you're talking about that, why did they vanish after DA2 ? and ME1?

I don't mind if we have one on MEA (especially if you don't have any LI during the game) but not only with asari >_> I really don't care about them.

About that DAO surprised me, both genders and species were there.

Thinking of a Wrex romance somehow reminds me of that infamous DA art in which Sten, clad in a BDSM outfit, says: "You sure 'bout this, Warden".

Isn't that basically Iron Bull since he's bigger than Arishok, and into the BDSM, also warned you about the act before hand?

But Sten said it kinda meaning "Is this a good idea?", while Bull is more like "Are you sure 'cos I'm gonna wreck your backside right after you nod"

Witcher's brothels are far more better than DA because they actually showing sex scenes and not underwear. And I wouldn't mind having relations with Asari personally but it bwould be a win win situation for those who wish to pursue promiscuous characters.

I think we haven't had a promiscuous straight character yet. Maybe there would be a straight Asari this time around and she could be promiscuous, or a promiscuous straight guy. Bisexuals tend to be promiscuous since they're supposedly into everyone, I guess, so it's easier to typecast the promiscuous character as bisexual.

Well, not during the events of the games at least. But there have been straight characters who have been promiscuous in their pasts. In Dragon Age there is Sebastian who was promiscuous before he had to join the Chantry and Rainier who had been with many women, mostly prostitutes. In Mass Effect there is Jack, Garrus because sex isn't a big deal in their culture among soldiers, and Miranda is not adverse to one night stands according to the Shadow Broker's files, though she is picky.

Hmmm not sure if I want promiscuous LI's.

On the other hand, I don't mind if there're brothels (Witcher style).

I don't think it was really about bi erasure. Though i understand your point.

Jack partially fits in that description, well at least prior to the romance path.

God no, I'll punch a bunny if they give us another slutty bisexual character once again.

cns9p1L.gif

Almost all the canon bisexual characters are promiscuous. I want more romance and love, something that gay romance often lack in Bioware games.

Representation of bisexuals in other areas of media, film and television for example, also typecast bisexual characters as promiscuous. It's cheap, usually to quickly make the character seem likable or funny to targeted straight audiences, and it is incredibly harmful to how it influences audiences perceptions of bisexuals in real life. Television I think is the worst, especially 22 episode long seasons, where bisexual characters in dramas or soaps get about six love interests a season to "spice" up storylines as well as to make the character seem alien and interesting to audiences who may not actually know how real bisexual may be in the real world.

I'd hope BioWare doesn't carry on this tyepcasting of bisexuals as promiscuous, as it isn't just lazy writing, its harmful and discriminatory to an extent.

lol imagining a straight character in the same vein as James Vega being the resident Don Lothario on the ship. always wished Vega's hints of attaction towards Ensign Westmoreland were followed through

Miranda's amusing shutdowns of people on dating websites trying to hit on her were evidence enough of her high standards and expectations, and I think there are allusions to Miranda's history with other people in some of the comics as its implied she may have had a romantic relationship with Jacob at one point.

Pretty much most representations of people beyond homosexual (and even often homosexual), whether that's bisexual, into kinky sex (S&M) etc are invariably that these are just sort of evil people or something. It's kind of all bad.

It's kind of like how representations of the "straight" person are just gorged in divine light like they are all about to bring us to a higher level of civilization LOL.

I'm hoping too that it works less like playersexuality. I want characters to have different reactions to the player's gender depending on their own personality. Liara was fine but felt like the romance was cut-and-pasted for male and female. Maybe a girl you can romance as a guy who seems adamantly lesbian, but opens up to you and soon falls in love. The opposite too, maybe a man who's into women falling for a male protag, or woman into men falling for a female protag. Make the romance challenging. Make us have to gain affection and give it in turn instead of making it a cookie clicker of options to minmax relationship points. It's why I liked the romance in Origins so much more than any other Dragon Age game or Mass Effect. You could thoroughly **** up romances by certain actions or saying the wrong things. It wasn't as simple as "Click blue option, get sex" and such.

Steve was the only gay character I didn't like. He was kinda boring in my opinion. I hope future gay characters in mass effect won't be as one dimensional as steve. Nearly everything was about his dead husband. Other than that, there weren't interesting conversations with him. I missed the flaws and interesting personality traits that other characters had. He was just there...and talked about his dead husband all over again, and that was it. I had serious problems to tell what his personality was like. I always got the feeling that he was just a minor character that the developers haven't cared much about. I think he was the only m/m romance I've never pursued. That's why I always chose Kaidan, even though he's bisexual and just a copy and paste job from the straight version. Still,he seemed much more interesting than steve. But that's just my feeling with him. I don't like to talk in this way about him, since there are people who like him and I respect that, but I don't see anything in him.... I have problem to recognize traits that would make him special and likeable for me. He was just the nice guy who lost his husband. (Nothing against nice guys, but if this is the ONLY obvious personality trait it's a bit boring.) I hope you know what I mean and don't feel offended.

I agree, he's boring, specially compared to other characters (ME2 ones are the coolest IMO). But the fact his romance is made specifically for a maleshep (that's what I like 'bout him, that and being non-stereotypical) draws my atention.

personally i prefer the brunettes topic..page 14

About Steve though, it is me or he was not the stereotype of gay individuals? Was he boring because of that? Actually i find him tolerable. Because he did not have those mannerisms that gay man usually have. He was a guy just like anyone else. The husband story was to introduce him as gay. I don t think he was portraited bad or worse than any other secondary characters

He's boring 'cause there's nothing special about him. And by the way, I'm not exactly fond of effeminate guys.

There are nothing wrong with man-nerisms (pun!!!). However, I don't think the sexual orientation of an individual inflects in his/her body language :P .

I liked Steve. He is a very competent guy, geek of ships, I loved his friendship dinamic with Vega and he is fun once you friendmance him (or romance him).
