I wouldn't have had him be one at all. Solas is already one extra romance for straight women.

Solas were supposed to be bisexual, but then they removed it because they think he may fall into a depraved bisexual trope which give negative representation for LGBT characters.

It's still an extra male romance and there's no need for another one.

Cullen was a fanservice, but a fanservice is not always necessarily asked for by the community. Solas fangirls have conquered BSN and pushed aside Cullen fangirls already. No one asked for Solas but he ended up like that.

Fair enough. Mostly, I just dislike Cullen.

I guess, but I doubt anyone thought that Scout Harding would be as popular as she was and I don't think they ever consider her even as a possible romance option. Vivienne would be the only possible option outside of that. Although consider her demeanor and social standing, a noble human Inquisitor would likely be the only one she would even consider a relationship with.

I don't dislike Cullen but I laughed . Had to give you a like because I missed the earlier conversation which I'm assuming involved Cullen so to see you quote about Solas and say this made me snort.

Finding out Vivienne was not a romance option put me into Labor.

Okay, probably not but no lie I was distraught finding out Vivienne was not a romance option (Not a big deal but pregnancy hormones) and I ended up giving birth that day.

I love Cullen. I have a soft spot for bumbling shy and romantic guy.

It's funny how 2 of the biggest character fanbase are all extra options which are Solas and Cullen.

Vivienne would have to be toned down if she was a romance option, right? I mean, as it is, performing cunnilingus on her would probably lead to my tongue freezing solid, and then I'd probably get cancer somehow.

This!

Solas is my favorite DAI romance with Sera a close second. I connect to Solas romance on a personal level with not being able to be with someone you love, so I was very touched by the situation and romance. I am very happy for the inclusion.

I was surprised how much I loved Sera's romance though. I always liked her character and thought she was cute, but I thought he romance would be shallow which it absolutely was not.

Personally, Vivienne's character is interesting because people like to see her next Tuesday. It's like Morrigan, and I doubt people who are a fan of Morrigan wants her to be any less selfish. Vivienne is basically a karma Houdini, she basically gets away with everything in this game, being a mage and enjoy privilege and royal life of a normal person, you can punch Dorian and Solas at low reputation but Vivienne basically shows you off, rearranging your furniture, lecture you and you can't do anything for her, she basically make snide comments about mages and attack all the companions during the dialogue and win most of those arguments, and could even become a divine. It's funny how the world is basically bend to her will. I guess that is her character.

Still, the point is that outside of Vivienne, there isn't any possible option, and Bioware didn't even consider Scout Harding as a possibility, I don't think. I guess I could understand why both of those options were males since there aren't a lot of females in this game.

Wait? Solas was supposed to be bisexual? Wow...now I'm really angry at Bioware that he ended up being straight. I mean, he's the most interesting character, story relevant, powerful and mysterious all at once...and of course, he's available for females only.. I bet in ME Andromeda the same thing will happen again. Straight female and male gamer will get the most plot relevant options...  That's why I'm for the all characters are bisexual approach. : ( ...

Cassandra is my Sera. Cassandra turned my character straight, maybe it's because I didn't like any of the guy options since neither are romantic and I'm a hopeless romance when it comes to fictional romance. Cassandra is basically a tsundere, flirting with her basically make her disapprove of you, pretending to tell you to stop flirting with her but then actually enjoy being flirted with.

Now if only I could have romance Cullen. :0, I would have play DAI still.

I wish we could romance Cullen as a male inquisitor :( He would be my go to option he was so cute and shy. I had to go with Bull which isn't bad but let's be honest, Qunari are hella weird.

It's basically my biggest gripes with set sexuality, LGBT is usually the extra dressing, and they're never involved in the main plot in significant way. The "leading" LI type is often straight probably due to how it's often the case with all the LIs in most media. They said bisexual characters would reduce the number of overall LI like if they're 6 then it would be 4, I call bull. They would require as much resource like extra dialogue, scenes, writing and things like that, especially for a set protagonist like ME, they don't even have to take into account height difference between the races. If they want to write all bi and reduce the number of LI then fine, make them actually bisexual and have different interaction with males and females instead of having them speak to like a cardboard placement.

I'm fine with Qunari, I just don't like the entire joke like aspect of the relationship. His relationship isn't romantic at all, you have to agree to BDSM relationship or he'd break up with you, can't walk after having sex with him, people walk in on you having sex, then treat marriage like a casual thing and absolutely like whatever. I want romantic scenes, I like for Alistair to give my male character flower while picking it and thinking of me, I like for Cullen to throw my male character on table after clearing it. What I like is romance. Why is it so hard for them to give romance to a gay romance?

For the love that hanar, I hope we get a Turian in the next game. The majority of people choose Turian, second is Drell. Turians are just a fascinating race, and I would love to see them expolore the theme of interspecies relationship more in term of cultural and relationship.

I like Asari, but I was just a bit off-putting by their species. They're basically encouraged to breed exclusively with other races while propagate their number, they're reducing other species' number since offspring with Asari produce no species of their own, and they live for thousands of years. Other species also finds them attractive, so it's basically being drawn to breed with them. It seems like in a real world situation, their species would outnumber other species with their long life, high technology, and propagating under relationship with other species.

Asari are basically the straight male sci-fi fantasy. Compared to the other races they are just a joke, IMO.

Although its strange that straight women got that many romances in the game, specially elf female.

In a way Dragon Age has always been this way. Alistair is at least as important as Morrigan in DA:O, Anders was most important in DA2 (and Sebastian as extra F/M option).

--

I never liked Cullen whatsoever so no loss for me there. Alistair and Blackwall would have been interesting. My favorite so far is Fenris. Too bad Anders is a terrorist.

His romance wasn't all that romantic, it's a very gay conscious relationship with the no string attached sex, closeted and avoiding telling people that you guys are in a relationship when returning his item, and gay conversion. His relationship just seems pretty angsty and place too much emphasis on his orientation as opposed to just being in a romantic relationship for my liking. You don't see lesbian characters like Sera or Samantha having these angsty problem.

Despite having gay characters in all of their games, Dragon Age has never given my a character that I actually wanted. Mass Effect, despite the lack of attention to gay players, give me Kaidan, my favorite Bioware romance. I'm not sure if it has to do with him being written for females or not, but despite scenes being cut and modified for the maleShep, his romance is still very tender and sweet. This is something I like more in gay relationship in the future.

I see your point. BW does have a thing for angsty romances. DA2 itself was an angst fest, with Sebastian and Isabela being closest to drama free. When I think about it, there is barely any well balanced romance in the DA series (for my taste anyway) they either feel too tame or too angsty. I didn't even liked the Cullen romance. I thought he was overly submissive and awkard. The only scene he ever talks back in a discussion is back at Haven if you recruit the mages or disband the templars. In the romance as a whole, he never shows that kind of backbone in a conversation.

Lesbians reap the benefits of straight males' fantasy with lesbians are hot, since ME series was designed for straight guys, which have lesbian relationship every single of their game, and even in the third game, there are more lesbian options than straight female options. Then again, Kaidan is a modified version of femShep, so I guess gay guys are at the bottom of the totem.
