To me the differences are huge - all the drell have in common with humans, apart from the humanoid body plan, is that they have a human nose and human-looking lips. But to me, everything else is pretty different - they look as human to me as apes. Less so, in fact, because of the folds on their face and their eye colour.

I guess I just see other things as more defining of human like looks than you then ^^

I side with the drell looking more human than, say, the turians. I think it has to do with how I look at Thane and think he looks like a character who could be played by a physical actor in a live action version with all his porportions the same as they are in game. Meanwhile aliens like the turians have physical characteristics that, in order to have them have the same proportions from the game (like the size of their fingers, for example), would probably have to be CGI. They're more human than the turians, but less than the asari.

I hope if we'll get a gay alien romance it's either an unmasked Quarian or a new one. I don't find the other species very attractive.

Honestly, a gay romance with a Turian would be nice.

Already had a male turian in the last 3 games, so any turian in the next game should be female. Now if she turns out to be gay?......Then that's up to Bioware.

The more I think about it, the more I would like a batarian. Just to mix things up a bit squadwise.

And isn't drell skin toxic to humans?

I recently replayed ME1 with a colonist background. It is absolutely impossible for me to look at Batarians as anything other than space nazis. You'd need a batarian that so incredibly rejects and loathes everything about Batarian culture that it would be one in name only for me to even marginally overcome my disgust at everything that race represents.

Mild hallucinogenic effects.  Similar to ingesting toad venom.  Can be used in some alcoholic beverages.  Basically, humans become high if one comes into contact with drell skin.  Nothing truly toxic, just...a little psychedelic.

So Shepard gets high making out with Thane?

I wouldn't mind a Batarian squadmate, I don't particularly want one either but I'd prefer it over another Krogan, but I would never want one as an LI. Forget the freaking face, just the teeth alone is enough to kill that.

Not toxic, more like a drug. Turians are the toxic ones.

More or less, if the lore is true.

I agree, teeth is not as much a concern for me as the eyes. It reminds me of the spider, and I'm arachnophobic. I want a Turian gay LI, and their teeth are pretty sharp.

I can see it.

Most likely a Turian or Drell in the end, most human-centric of the aliens in terms of physiology.

Based on the lore, I think that'd be easier than it sounds to find - the majority of batarians who are able to leave the Hegemony are military, pirates, and slavers. The Hegemony had such a tight hold on its people, no one else could leave, which meant the batarians the galaxy met were either the worst scum of the batarians or the warmongers out for batarian dominance, rather than a representative of what the batarians themselves believed in. Once the Reapers invaded, though, the Hegemony's leaders were mostly indoctrinated or dead, which let the civilians who escaped the brunt of the attack get out and experience the galaxy. Of course, they also find a galaxy predisposed to hate them, so that would also lend to a batarian squadmate's attitude - they WANT to reject the image of the batarians in the known galaxy and create something new, something better, be an example for batarians to aspire to.

I don't particularly lean towards a romance with one (at least not for Andromeda), but I'd like a batarian squadmate like that on the team.

This is why I was hoping for a friendly batarian on ME:A's crew. Someone like DAI's Dorian, who shows the decent individuals within a vile culture. I wasn't a fan of them being a race of arseholes.

I'd never want to romance one though. Only vorcha and yahg have less romantic appeal.  :?

I want someone like Bray. We can give him crap details. It's not fair that Garrus got a batarian squad member before we did.

YES!  Excellent title change, BBM!  I knew we could get gaylien to catch on.  It's so dumb that it's genius!  I really love this aspect of the BSN.

I'd be fine with a Batarian.  They aren't terribly physically attractive to me, but I'm willing to give it a shot.  Of course I don't think any of the alien species are terribly physically attractive.  I see Drell are super popular.  I'm still crossing my fingers against them.  Slinky space ninja isn't really my thing.  But, it does look like they would be a popular choice.  If I had to narrow it to three options, I'd say:

1.) Quarians

2.) Turians

3.) Krogan (don't judge me)

All in all, I'd give any of those a shot (who am I kidding, I'd give any m/m option a shot).  Unlike DA, though, I think I'm leaning towards a human LI.  Outside of the idea of a Reegar-eque m/m Quarian option, I'm not really jazzed about any of the ideas that have shown up in the thread.

Thats cool gay players have not had a gay or bi alien li they should get that option only fair. As for what it could be maybe a male quarian never had that in mass effect.

To be honest, I always thought Narl was really cute...

The only attractive batarian I've seen so far, and his personality was surprisingly nice, too. So I think this just means that Bioware needs to work reeeaaally hard to make an attractive batarian. It's all about the facial proportions and skin tones.

Interesting question. I'm less interested in the actual content of the romances themselves and more in could be explored in terms of what cultural attitudes toward gay or lesbian relationships in the alien societies are.

Take krogan for example. For over 1000 years they have lived in a society where men and women don't even live in the same settlements together. I would imagine that same sex relationships would be extremely common as a result, but would they be highly repressed due to the extremely masculine and individualistic krogan culture and thus socially looked down upon? Or would it be more like ancient Greek warrior cultures where it was embraced (at least among members of the same clans) due to fostering camraderie? How different would it be viewed by the typical females, some of whom seem to be similar to the males (Warlord Shiagur) while you have others like Eve referring to other females rather affectionately as their sisters.

What about quarians? For 300 years they have lived as a dying species in essentially a militaristic communist society. Would an S/S relationship there be looked upon derisively as betraying one's duty to produce children for the survival of the species? As a rule collectivist cultures on earth haven't traditionally had the most accepting attitudes toward LGBT's, often seeing them as disruptive and detrimental to the preferred and officially sanctioned social paradigms (USSR, PRC, pretty much any Fascist country, Cuba, North Korea).

We already have an example of a turian bisexual or lesbian in Nyreen, but her social outcast status due to her biotic ability doesn't really tell us much about how it'd be perceived there. Given that they are also militaristic and a bit collectivist like the quarians, there's the potential for the same questions, if not as extreme due to the fact that turians are one of the most numerous species in the galaxy.

It'd be silly to assume that they are automatically as accepting as humans seem to be in universe given their differing cultural attitudes on other issues. This is a universe where racism/ speciesm seems to be quite rampant, for example, so homophobia could be just as bad.

Tl;dr gay kromance biower plz.

I have no particular interest in gay romances (nothing against them just not something that personally interests me), but based on the thread title alone, I am completely supportive of your efforts to get gayliens in the game.
