The thread title (gaylien) made me think this was going to be a request for a species that was an all male version of the Asari. I'm relieved that my first impression was wrong. Reproduction is kinda important... :D

Anyway, I think the devs should give the gay players an alien LI this time around since there were none in the Shepard trilogy. A male Quarian would probably make the most sense.

This might be an unpopular opinion among some here, but I think Bioware should limit the LIs to humans or near-human species, regardless of gender preference.

I thought the Garrus romance was fine on my Femshep playthrough. The weirdness of it does lend to a different kind of romance than one with a human or near-human species. The only two near-human species, as I recall, were asari and quarians. There might be more in the new galaxy, of course, but I still don't have any issue with romances with aliens that aren't humanlike, such as turians. I get where you're coming from, though. I do think a Yahg or Elcor would be taking it a little too far.

It would be extremely hard to do it correctly without coming off gimmicky / weird / forced. If they could manage it I'd be down, but considering they can't even manage a human male gay romance (I'm going under the assumption Steve's romance had problems since that seems to be reigning opinion) I wouldn't hold my breath.

Better to have a really solid human first, and then worry about the gayliens later.

I don' think asari have gender they are not female. And even if they are, wouldn't female/female be normal, and female/male gay.

If the Asari didn't have a gender they'd be described as agendered rather than monogendered. The prefix mono means one or single. For example a monorail is a train that runs on a single track instead of two, or a person who is monogamous only has one sexual partner. The Asari all belong to a single biological sex. (female)

So apparently our squad of 7 will include 1) a female human 2) a male-ish synthetic 3) a male Krogan  and we will likely get 4) an asari 5) and a male human, leaving 2 spots for possible gaylien romances.

Thoughts on gay Kroganmance?

gay asarimance (an asari with an interest in females only)?

gay turian or quarianmance?

If I have a choice, I would want to have a gay turian. Not that I want a Garrus 2.0 or anything.  ^_^

I think the biggest problem I have with Steve was that he's an NPC, and he gets less content compared to other characters, also, due to the nature of his relationship, he spends most of the arc grieving about his dead husband, we don't really know much about him, it just makes him come off as boring. They can write very successful alien romances like with Garrus and Thane (ME2). They just need to forgo the preconceived notions and stereotypes they associate with gay and just write them as any other characters.

Actually, Cortez have more scenes and content than Kaidan in ME3. Just like Traynor, you have to go to shuttle and talk to him and there's a lot of additional ambient dialogues of them flirting. Then the scenes during missions, Normandy and Citadel scenes. He have a more developed romance too since much of Kaidan romance in ME3 was mere resolutions to FemShep's preexisting romance and the only difference was several lines unique dialogues for BroShep and there's also cut content that was reserved to FemShep.

For me, Cortez romance made it feel like it was specially made to be more intimate and personal for Male Shepard. I don't know why mourning for his late husband make everyone wary of romancing him, Thane was still grieving for his wife. Unlike Cortez, Thane actually memorize sex with his wife... in detail.

Watching his romance, it was just too much angst while Kaidan is relatively angst free, but yeah, Kaidan wasn't really done right since most of Kaidan was basically copy and paste with many scenes cut out. it was just basically the best of the worst between the two. I also wasn't the fan of the whole "gay warning" thing for Cortez, he has a lot of checks just to romance him even an interruption was needed. It's like "yes, he's gay, be careful, you're able to be gay, stop now or your character will be gay" with the entire sequence of the scene. Not being a companion, he misses out on a lot of interactions. I watch both and I don't see Cortez has more scenes, but I do see Kaidan get less scenes compared to femShep though. I don't know about him asides from his friendship with Vega and he has a dead husband. It's the last game, so he has a lot of catch up to compared to other characters that have been developed throughout the trilogy to be honest.

In fairness, the whole "gay warning" check was for those who are completionists and like to talk to every companion and crew member. Some folks just wanted to be Cortez's friend, so BioWare had to incorporate some sort of feature to determine if you wanted to turn that friendship into a relationship or not. Either way, it's absolutely necessary to do all of Cortez's dialogue if you don't want him to die at the end of the game. It probably could have been handled better, but it wasn't nearly as abrupt as the Anders "gay warning" check in DAII.

In the comic, he's very sexually liberated, and some writers even talk about him being pansexual. He's in love with Death which is a skeleton, kiss guys, talk about how handsome they are, and into a variety of different aliens. He also has a fetish for obese women.

I have a feeling if there's a female alien option, it would be the Asari. It may break the mold a bit if they show Asari actually have a sexual preference. Afterall, other aliens apparently have it.

You can skip the interrupt and there will be an alternate scene while still in the romance, then again ninjamanced is quite a normal in the trilogy. But I'm not sure I could classify ME3 Kaidanmance being angst-free since his entire trilogy romance was drama-filled. I know that so many were happy with the how their BroShep finally were able to romance the now bisexual former-lieutenant but I felt BroShep was cheated from a well-fleshed out love story with Kaidan. But then again, the bulk of in-game romances was already given to BroShep rather excessively.

To be fair, those who are not into females wouldn't care how many straight female Shepard can bang, just like the excessive lesbian options for female Shepard vs straight Shepard. Ninjamance is normal, but Cortez is the only option with that amount of excessive checks. Kaidan only has the confrontation scene, otherwise, his romance is pretty angst free, and romantic.

Well, Sci-fi is about looking ahead.

It's funny how people asking for female qunari or dwarf or Liara's baby are not social justice, but anything else need to be social justice just because other people are asking for it. It's not even about asking for equality or how unfair it is, just a request for a feature. People throw that word around so much it loses all meaning. If you try to be clever or funny, maybe you need to come up with something new or maybe you should learn the meaning of that word first.

I think I may have asked this a long while ago but if so, I cannot remember the answer so I'll ask again: is it possible to stop Aria from kissing Shepard when she tries to such as with an interupt?

I don't think so.
