The leak said the ship is called the Tempest. 

 

 

That fits. I guess my first character will have to be named Prospero now.

 

 

Tempest obviously confirms a Miranda cameo so this can't be allowed to happen.

Ha, when I saw Tempest my first thought was, "so if I play a dude, Prospero, and if I play a girl, Miran- WAIT."

 

So if it's true, I'm curious about the connection, especially if it takes place far into the future.

 

I suppose I could use the name Ariel instead, despite Ariel being technically a male spirit in the play...

While this would ensure that no one ever actually says the name of the ship in dialogue, it's not totally unbelievable that few people would even say it. I'm trying to recall how many instances when someone actually says the name of Malcolm Reynold's ship in Firefly or Serenity. Someone does mention it when referencing the war that the ship's name pertains to, but no one is constantly saying its name like people say Enterprise or Normandy. 

 

I'd like to see the goofy names people come up with for their ship though, in the form of screen shots.

Nowadays, the likeliest ship to be called the Conquistador would be some booshie jerk's yacht that he uses to hold his cocaine-fueld parties.

You could even build it into the story. It's an existing ship that people know, but you get to rename it. So you'll see the name you chose painted on the side of the ship and in codex and journal entries, but all the characters who refer to the ship will use the old name, and your character has the option to get really frustrated that no one is using the new name.

It's like how sports venues change their names when they get new sponsors, but the fans often keep using the old name (or a nickname).
