Lack of feminity is common problem with Dragon Age. Women from this universe generally don't like hairs and dresses. They are strong, badass and smash heads and castle gates without blink of an eye. Feminine females in DA are very rare, like golden nugs and female protagonist is forbidden to be one of them. And feminine female npc will most likely be the one who is not romance-able.

Anyway, I'm not against strong female characters (Aveline is practically the best buddy in DA 2, not counting Varric of course). However The Witcher 3 reminds me that (suprisingly) feminine women exist too in fantasy worlds.

Something else that would help:

Have an option to load a preset, similar how a code is used in Mass Effect.

The Inquisitor is the head of the Inquisition, possibly chosen by Andraste herself. It makes sense that an Inquisitor could be a radiant beauty.

The option to use iconic appearance is always good thing. It makes characters like Shepard and Hawke universally memorable (almost like companions). And I am talking about ICONIC appearance, not miserable presets from DA:Inquisition.

And finally, Bioware should focus on quality of options instead of quantity. Better have couple of good looking hair options than dozens of baldness variations. DA:I is overall huge game but suffers from "the more the better" syndrome in many areas.

Feminine women aren't exactly thin on the ground in Dragon Age - just in DAI we've got Leliana, Vivienne, Morrigan, Josephine and Celene. That's most of the major female characters! Not to mention that Cassandra, while a badass smasher of gates and people's faces, also likes romance novels and sappy poetry and other girly things.

It's entirely possible to care about shoes and also murder lots of people. Just ask Leli.

Welcome back, Brevnau.

Nope, not Brevnau. I've only made 2 posts here.

Also didn't know about the Post your Inquisitor thread. I'll go check it out.

That's because you equate femininity (and probably masculinity) with very arbitrary concepts and traits. I think that's a rather limited perspective.

Let's just say I have old fashioned view on femininity/masculinity topic. As I said, I have nothing against strong female characters. The problem is that in DA universe it mostly means the same for female characters: short hairs/baldness, pants/heavy armor, archetype of badass good leader / badass "barbarian" villain.

Really, Morrigan looks almost surreal among all these "unconventionally attractive" badass women. Like antiquated relict. Sometimes I feel like playing some feminist manifesto. And I don't like this direction.

It's good to have characters like Aveline or Cassandra (with the exception of ridiculous castle gate smashing). But we need characters like Yennefer from the Witcher too. Strong females with traditional /old fashioned feminine traits.

David Gaider is a writer. He doesn't design characters, or the tools used to make them. So, huh?

That's true, but he (and the other writers) almost certainly have some input on character design. They aren't going to let other people design them in such a way that it undermines the personality they've written for them.

Oh and before anyone decides to jump down my throat, I'm perfectly fine with how the female characters look in Inquisition.

Thanks Gaider.

I agree, you can totally make beautiful, cute, and feminine characters. The character creator is pretty good.

Some better hair and eyebrows wouldn't hurt though <_<

On a more serious note, I think the hair looks like plastic oily horse hair. There are mods out currently that alleviate this but sadly it does nothing for XBONE and PS4, and prior generation consoles.

If Leliana, Vivienne, and Josie aren't feminine enough for you, I dunno what to tell you, dude. I mean, Leliana and girly and obsessed with shoes and fashion, as well as being a badass spymaster. Viv would rather wear white in a swamp than look less than fabulous. Josephine embodies pretty much every traditionally feminine quality I can think of - polite, sweet, diplomatic, would rather use soft power than violence, etc.

Is it just their hair cuts you object to? I think most of the characters have short hair (or pile it up) purely to avoid clipping, although in Viv's case it also makes wearing fantastic hats a lot easier.

Man, this guy. You can't write this stuff.

In any event, now that I'm certain that this is, in fact, not-Brevnau, I think I'll bow out. His threads have a tendency to hang around on the front page long after his sock puppet du jour has been permabanned (this is what, four? Five?). This is good advice for everyone, since I think we probably all have better things to do.

Viv would rather wear white in a swamp than look less than fabulous. In short:

1. Leliana - like Morrigan she is returning character from DA:O. I prefer talking about present representation of "new" female characters and observable tendency.

2. Vivienne - Yes, she has fantastic feminine outfit. But again, she is bald (long hairs simply are conventional femininity trait).

3. Josie - yes, she has conventional feminine personality. Yes she counts as representation of traditional femininity. I don't like her outfit but it's just my taste.

4. The Val Royeaux ball - Leliana, Vivienne and Josie and all these "feminine" uniforms... <_<

Anyway speaking about particular characters is not necessary. I think that this "tendency" is rather obvious.

Well, women from Witcher world are brave and strong enough to fight with clipping issues :).

So you perceive this "thing" on Vivienne's head as fantastic? Uhm...ok. Let's agree to disagree then.

Forgive the ignorant question, but: What are monolids?

Monolids is an outdated and incorrect term for something called epicanthic folds; an epicanthic fold is a skin fold of the upper eyelid, covering the inner corner of the eye. There are various factors that influence whether someone has epicanthic folds, includin geographical ancestry, age and certain medical conditions. They are most common in Asia and you may known them better as "asian eyes" because that is who the trait is mostly associated with. In actuality, the trait is displayed with people from Africa and Scandinavia as well as the indigenous people known as the Inuit so it is not solely tied to Asia.

The Monolid term stems John Langdon Down's research into the Down Syndrome in which he percieved that children with Down Syndrome exhibited shared facial similarities (epicanthic folds) with those of the Blumenbach's Mongolian race hence why he choose to classify the condition as "mongoloid", though it has sometimes been referred to as "mongol" or "mongoloid idiot". It is now considered pejorative and inaccurate.

I'm not great with the CC either, but I can give you some tips that have worked for me.  Using sliders that others made doesn't help me either.  If you're curious, please me a PM and let me know.

This is my elf, smiling quite happily.  She looks nicely feminine imho.

Spoiler

I gotta admit, that pic needs some subtitles a la: "I want to see what's inside your heart. Let me get the murder knife."

Feminine women and not just plain women? Something like curvaceous curves and not simply curves? :)

Facial animation for the main characters would add value to the game, for sure.
