I blame EA for letting Fox News bully them into self censorship :/

I actually doubt EA would do that since they requested: "a correction of 'serious errors' from Fox News in an open letter". Not to mention a lot of people were on Bioware's side even Jack Thompson who is a known anti-video-game activist that takes especially issue with sex and violence in video games.

Part of what made Fox News' allegations so rediculous was also that what sexual elements that were in Mass Effect was very low-key. The most explicit of the "evidence" they presented? A side shot of an asari's breast.

Dragon Age: Origins featured more nudity than Mass Effect as I recall even if it was not between the player and their companions. While they were awkward to some due to their clothed nature, the scenes between player and companion were not a simple fade-to-black and featured movements and positioning that were clearly sexual. I believe there even is one scene where a character has the o face.

I think it was per design and not per an attempt to avoid controversy especially since they included a brothel in Origins with a selection and created the the Desire Demon model which had the animation of fondling itself. In addition, Origins also featured the ability to have a foursome and offered the oppertunity to have sexual congressions with an entity referred to as a demon.

TL:DR - Dragon Age: Origins came closer to match the allegations made against Mass Effect than Mass Effect itself did so I doubt the controversy spooked Bioware into imposing more censorship on their content.

I know how they work. But they look like almost-naked females. That is what offends the PC crowd and whatever. Remember the uproars the 5 second shot of Ashley's rear end in ME1 caused? Same thing. EA shies away from such things.

The issue is the most I see about the supposed controversy that sparked the supposed removal of the Desire Demon model is people asking if it was removed because of controversy, not anything that indicates an actual controversy. I have trouble finding any uproar especially on one the scale of ME1. If you could link to an articles or media coverage then that would be nice because they may simply have eluded me

The second issue is that Dragon Age: Inquisition features scenes of characters in which they are far more nude than the Desire Demon model is which why I cannot imaging that a fear of causing offense with nudity was the reason for the model's absence especially since, as I mentioned before, they are not the only demon model absent.

@dai and shechinah that helps a lot. If it was intended on biowares part then it was their choice and I stand by it.

My post was about how I did not believe that the Mass Effect controversy influenced Dragon Age: Origins in terms of enforcing censorship.

My post was not about Dragon Age: Inquisition but I will note that Dragon Age: Inquisition came closer to match the allegations made against Mass Effect than Mass Effect itself did.

Supposedly, in the original idea for the Envy demon, he wanted to make us believe we won that battle at the Templar conclave and we experienced a victory in our mind and a good homecoming to boot. Leliana invites your character for a sexual encounter that you can accept or turn down. The idea of the envy demon was that it wanted to know what kind of person you really are. Everything about you, pride, lust.. ect. But they cut the idea because a focus group said it came off as noncon.

That's infuriating, especially since that could only be noncon for the Inquisitor (which would then be every player's choice to go thru with). What a waste of a perfectly good plot. They still could have kept everything else in, except for the Leliana sex bit.

Which is a shame since I do like the idea and think it could have been a creepy exploration of what it feels like to be trapped in a demon's imagery without knowing it. Hopefully it or something like it may be featured in a future DLC or in the next installment.

Well the thing with Fox news and Mass Effects controversy was that Fox news had no idea what they even wanted discuss about. In the end it appeared that the topic should have been: how can we avoid children from playing mature games, cause their only argument against ME1 was that little boys might see Liara's romance scene end of the game, in the game that is rated 18+/M and has lot of violence and other things that parents should be worried over romance scenes that most likely these kids can't even see, unless they do flirt with Liara during whole game. They had chosen very wrong game to discuss that about and non-productive approach too: let's blame 18+ game for including mature romance scenes without realising that it's parent who buys the game and who lets the kids play unsupervised and that there is tons of mature tv series and films around as well, should all those be banned too? ^^;

It's pretty hilarious though, to think how simple these people in Fox news makes themselves to seem.
