So the Ark theory has been going around for a long time now and now that we know we're playing in Andromeda a lot of people think that we're going to be taking some sort of ark to the Andromeda galaxy to try and rebuild civilization.

Anyway I was playing Mass Effect 3 yesterday and after the Thessia mission when Shepard is talking to the Asari Councilor they tell her about Thessia being overwhelmed by the Reapers, Cerberus getting the info on the catalyst and Shepard says that they've lost and then the councilor says "Then I should go. Plans must be put in motion. Continuity of civilization has to be considered. I never imagined this day would come." I never really payed much attention that line but after Andromeda was announced and hearing about the Ark theory, it really stuck out to me. Could she be talking about the ark?? Both Asari councilors say this by the way - the original councilor Tevos and the new councilor Irissa.

I've also noticed that THIS picture looks like the Citadel. Some people think this might be the Ark that all the different races are traveling on to get to Andromeda.

If the Council did create an ark in some desperate attempt to save all these different civilizations and races, it would make sense for them to create the Ark in the Citadels image.

What do you think?

Reaching a bit but it would be a really clever tie in.

I loved the citadel and a similar area to explore with Frostbite would be grand. Nice catch.

I always wondered what exactly she meant by it and that would fit, yes, if ME:A happened in the same timeline.

'Continuity of civilization,' she says.

I think it's a bit of a stretch, but I wouldn't exactly say no to it. It at least fits well enough. I'd just be concerned about what it says about the characters involved - they'd be starting from a point of desperation, thinking they might be the last of their species. I don't know, that seems like a bit of a downer, a dark cloud hanging over things throughout the game because the characters don't know what's happening with the Reaper War effort.

Like I said, not against it, just I need to be sold a little more on the idea before embracing it.

I imagine this ark more like a cold war nuke bunker.

Old, built long ago for reasons that don't exist anymore and something they thought they'd never actually have to use

"There are...preparations to make. Continuity of civilisation to consider."

Hmmm... Well, until we know more this could just be a coincidence, but I must admit, this is one hell of a coincidence, and it does fit quite well. I certainly wouldn't say no if there really was a connection. Excellent catch! :)

Without the capacity to actually make such a trip, I doubt anyone would have been hatching that kind of scheme at the time. More than likely it would have been something like the protheans hiding away in a bunker while some select individuals cryo their way out of the reaper war.

And had that beacon been revealed earlier, she may of never made that comment.

Still ridiculous.

Plans for preservation are not ridiculous. It would be ridiculous no one in the Milky Way thought about one.

I do suppose there was a posibility the Asari were working on it in secret. They did kind of go out of their way to hide their Prothean beacon, which is what makes them such an advanced race.

Maybe this can redeem the Thessia mission, because that was just the most silly part of the game.

That can be said about previous cycles. I would not be surprised if any of them had plans to go to another galaxy. Whether they succeeded, I don't know.

Andromeda's just a massive gathering spot for all the ark projects that fled the Reaper invasion to preserve the "continuity of civilization".

I refuse to believe that they were only working on the Crucible without knowing what it did. They had to have a plan B.

Well to be fair the Protheans had a different kind of plan set in motion.

That'd actually be kind of hilarious. Hey, maybe the Reapers are running an experimrnt and Andromeda was the control group? Or storage in case they found that they wanted a harvested soecies back someday.

I wholeheartedly doubt that they thought that far ahead, and I guarantee you that if the ME3 ending hadn't gone as well as a lead balloon we'd still be in the Milky Way.

If Bioware is going to go the ark route as an explanation for how the protagonist gets to Andromeda, they should tie it in with the Asari Councilor's speech. She was clearly talking about a Plan B, we just never get the details of what that Plan B was in Mass Effect 3.

At the time they wrote it I doubt they had an Andromeda sequel in mind, but it could be easily tied in with the new game.

Good theory, OP.

But TBH, it can be numerous things that the Asari Councilor said on "Plans to make, Preparations" and etc.

And IMO I don't see that working. I'm still waiting on how we can get to a new Galaxy and then I can argue about the Ark and if makes any sense.

It'll sure look grimy to see possibly thousands of people pooling their resources into some secret evacuation fleet while everyone else is pooling theirs to save the galaxy in the middle of the reaper war.

"Why are we leaving? We should help them fight! We have lots of ships, tons of weapons. We could buy them time!"

"Shut up and pack!"

turn tail and run while everyone else tries to fight back

gonan have fun with that if it turns out to be true

Remember, Bio's got to handwave solve the capacity problem anyway, so this doesn't make the problem worse.

Here's how I'd do it, FWIW. There's a one-way wormhole that the asari discovered centuries ago. They don't really know where it goes -- they just know that it goes to some galaxy because technobabble -- and didn't much care about it until the Reaper invasion suddenly made using it look like a relatively good bet. They get to work on an ark while waiting to see if they'll need it. After Thessia they order the ark launched and blow the local relay so nobody can follow the ark through.

Krogan, turians, salarians and humans are included because the asari know they're going to need cannon-fodder in the new location.

If this "Ark" wasn't put into motion until the fall of Thessia, then the whole plan's even more laughable than I initially thought.
