Are there any games currently out that fit the mold?  I just frankly find it impossible to believe there's not a single current game that does it decently.

The EVE Online Character Creator is pretty great. I tried the 30-day trial version and was very satisfied with it.

Can someone provide an example of a character generator that does a *good* job at making non white protagonists?  I'm not trying to be dismissive, but I hear this complaint a lot and yet I see (what seems to me anyway) perfectly normal looking black/Asian/etc. folk in ME and now in DA.

I just went back and started playing Fallout New Vegas this last week and it has an explicit "pick your race" component at the beginning and I thought the other models just looked like white people with the skin changed.  Yet once I started playing, a good 60% of everybody that isn't black looks Asian to me.

My point is that once the generator allows for a wide variety of skin tones and hair styles and it's got sliders that allow you to alter the face so much you can create this, doesn't it all just get really subjective after that about what a "proper" *insert ethnic group here* person looks like?

I would say Oblivion and Skyrim, though the former has a lousy CC in general.

Whether that's true or not is irrelevant. My point was that it's one network where all the others have as much or more of a liberal bent.

You haven't proved anything. You simply said I was wrong with nothing to back up your statement.

I have granted you that plenty of gay people would hide it, even on an anonymous survey. However, it's foolish to think there are enough to make up a significant dent in the overall population. Claim it all you want, you have no evidence, let alone proof.

You'll see homophobia everywhere if you keep expanding the definition. However, if you could read, I said gay people aren't being killed for being gay very often in the West. Unless the media is hiding it, of course, but here they are quick to throw anything like that on the front page.

No, you don't need straight people to have a baby but they account for most of the children being born because men and women want to have sex with each other.

I really don't think you do have better things to do based on the low quality of your comments.

I think you mean which would I compare on the left? MSNBC is the worst, sure, but you also have CNN, ABC, CBS, and of course NBC itself. Whatever you think of Fox's overall reporting, it has more liberal commentators and contributors than the other networks have conservatives.

Waa? Gay person, here. Just because there are more people being killed (note: people are STILL killed here, especially trans women of color) in countries for being lbtgq than the US of A, doesn't mean that homophobia, transphobia and queerphobia isn't a problem in the US of A. I have to worry about job and housing discrimination. I have to worry about my physical safety -- cross my fingers and hope I don't come across a dude who thinks all I need is a good pronging (supplied by him, of course). I have to worry about acceptance from my family and peers. If your argument is really going to be "the only people who have the right to complain are people who have it the worst off", then you, yourself, have lost the ability to complain about ANYTHING in your life or about anything else, because someone always has it worse off than you. What you're doing is making use of a silencing tactic. You sound like Richard Dawkins and his "Dear Muslima" whining.

And to the libertarian who basically told me to shut up. Go back, read....and ask yourself why you felt the need to call me out, but completely ignored the actual bigoted comments that preceded my initial post. You complained because I called this crap out. You never called out the inappropriate comments, so you actually don't care about social injustice. That falls in line with the libertarian platform. I stand by what I said: you just provided a prime example of libertarian apathy. Thanks.

I thought Support was the black man.

                                                                                       <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

On a side note:

Technically, BLACK is not a colour. BLACK is the absence of light (from my Physics class)

The most technically accurate definition of colour is:
"Colour is the visual effect that is caused by the spectral composition of the light emitted, transmitted, or reflected by objects."

Example:

1. All the "invisible" colours of sunlight shine on an apple.

2. The surface of a red apple absorbs all the coloured light rays, except for those corresponding to red, and reflects this colour to the human eye.

3. The eye receives the reflected red light and sends a message to the brain.

4. When you see a "black" piece of cloth, all the colours are absorbed and none are reflected to the eye.

When light strikes either the rods or the cones of the retina, it's converted into an electric signal that is relayed to the brain via the optic nerve. The brain then translates the electrical signals into the images a person sees. Thus, when you turn off the lights in a closed room,  the rods and cones are not stimulated... there are no electrical signals to the optic nerve and the brain has nothing to translate.... hence we "see black".

Technically, then, a "black" person is a person of no colour...

Just saying....

Edit: Also, technically a white person is a person of colour.... since white reflects all of the visible spectrum

So, and this is just me, but it wouldn't bother me one bit if the advertised protagonist was black, white, east Asian, Polynesian, Indian, Middle Eastern, Native American, Latin American, or anything else I missed.

                                                                                            <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

The issue, I think, is how the game company can reach the broader market. And, you reach said market via promotional videos, interviews and cover art. That, to me, plays an important part on the makeup of the PC.

Skyrim is good, but it's exponentially better once you get some mods in there. For my part, I would call out Saints Row 3 and 4 as being exceptional.

I would hold it up as one of the best CCs in any game, actually.

I want the next char to be based on Tyrone Shepard. He could get things done! He would save the brothers from oppression! The one who could PUNCH a YMYR mech to destruction! And he was always SO... VERY... ANGRY!!!

I get that. Just don't think that having the promotional protagonist be non-white is going to alienate the white market. And if there is a segment of that market that is going to be alienated by it, that's probably a segment that Bioware shouldn't lose any sleep over alienating.

how about they just do what they want to do and not feel any pressure from anybody to do otherwise? or is that asking to much?

No, but apparently reading through a thread before commenting is.

Hopefully, not having the old gen boots on their throat will let them make a decently great CC this time around. DAI is like... 80% there. The 20% deficit mainly being that awful, awful hair.

How about they don't open up a public forum for their fans to voice their opinions on such matters if that's what they want to do.

Interestingly phrased.

Yes, I think it might be asking too much, if that were to mean that people should stop asking or hoping for aspects about the game. Here we have an entire sub forum of speculation and hopes. If I could, I would apply as much pressure as possible to make sure that the story has beautiful aesthetics, a story rife with political intrigue, and deeply immersive character interactions, as well as a more dynamic villain than Bioware's last game. I know some people who would plead the case for an exception MP campaign.

Fan outrage was what led to the extended cut of ME3, which did a little to soften my negative feelings about the ending. I'm glad they felt pressured in that case, and I'd wager that I'm not entirely alone. Providing feedback and ideas when it comes to a product that we intend to buy is entirely acceptable behavior, and at the end of the day, I believe that the Devs will still be making their product, even if they happen to consider our ideas and suggestions.

Here is a thread, where the OP is expressing a hope to play a character who looks reasonably like them. It's so innocuous and mild a hope that it baffles me that anyone could find fault with it.

I regret wording it in a way that makes it seem like people can't request certain aspects to be in a game. I personally believe that Bioware tends to very well on CC, sure they're not the best in the industry but they are top tier. what I dislike is the venom and "do this or you're bad people" tone that many people tend to include with their requests. I just find that Bioware tends to focus more on story and gameplay then character creation. That is why I think they make great games.

This literally is the most pathetic excuse I've ever heard by someone trying to absolve himself of the burden of the proof. Perhaps you should consider sharring the evidence behind how you got to know that gay people are lying on mass in surveys about their sexual orientation.

Besides, if there were some many gay people, as you seem to suggest, then they wouldn't have to be so afraid of straight people, right. it's not like their doing anthing that's illegal, in western countries, that is.

Um. I know Gay people would lie about their sexuality on a survey because I know a lot of Gay people that have been ashamed to come out as a Gay person because of homophobic straight people.

And yes a lot of LGBT people are afraid of homophobic straight people because homophobes keep murdering LGBT people...

Anyway, I'm done talking about this. I posted something 4 days ago and it's completely changed the topic of the thread and I've gotten so many homophobes F U M I N G! And I love it!!

But I have better things to do so move on. I'm right and you're wrong. Bye.

Non-white?  The first time I tried to make a character in ME, I was wishing for a CC that was capable of easily creating a face that was passingly human.

But on a more serious note, I think nobody would say no to a better CC with more options.

Even if you managed to cross that hurdle, you had to contend with Bioware Bodytm and Bioware Handstm, which are almost as jarring as Bioware Facetm.

Good to see BSN is still keeping up for ts reputation for insanity

I've missed this,

Oh you crazy social justice deviants... how I've missed you all; the butt hurt special snow flakes, the eternally oppressed screw balls,  and moral collectivist crusaders...or was my reference to butt hurt homophobic?

Glory to the Bioware boards, where logic, sanity and reason stop where feelings begin, and evidence is just another tool of bigoted white oppression.

I feel my white male privilege intensifying already, God bless you, you crazy degenerates.

To expand on this to those who haven't played, the Eve O CC basically allows everything from skeletal shaping to cosmetics. You can be fat, thin or muscular. Females can be busty or flat chested, wide or narrow hips, pear shaped or beanpole. You can have tattoos, piercings and a variety of clothing and make up. Oh and Monocles.

Here's a vid of it:
