Wait. Wait. Wait.

Wait.

Did someone in this thread call Steelcan an SJW?

I thought I had been reading this thread clearly, but my insomnia is kicking up.  My brain is a little fuzzy, so I wanted to get this straight:

Steelcan is an SJW?  Who...what....the frak?  What in Hades did I miss?  I'm honestly a little surprised, even though I know I shouldn't be by now.

May we, as a community, officially call social justice warrior/SJW a dead and meaningless insult?  This is really getting out of hand.  I mean, Steel's a helluva nice guy, but a SJW?  I think some folks need to get off the crazy pills.

Man, I'm looking forward to "knee-jerk reactionary" making a come back.  At least that made sense over SJW.   <_<

I can't do an internet search at this time, and I'm a bit behind when it comes to these kind of things. What does "SJW" stand for?

I see. I guess I need to do research into it when I get home.

I know, right? It might have been a joke. I hope it was serious though, because that makes it more funny.

yeah, it's not really a thing that you do from home. nobody has ever persuaded people to change their ideas on anything with a few short messages. Have to venture outside and get aquainted and trying to be a social justice warrior with anything less isn't going to get results.

Now that I think about it.. Does it matter what race the PC is as long as we can create who and what we want?

While the thread is poorly named, the OP is talking about the Character Creator, not a stock protagonist. The main complaint is that while you can make different skin tones, the creators often don't allow for other facial features associated with different races. There may be something to that, but some people have posted some good looking non-white characters.

I swear I have a Yoshimi face for every situation and need little provocation to post them.

While she is unmodded, I abused the everloving blazes out of the sliders to make a natural looking asian humanlike Shepard. I would LOVE it if we had a better toolkit. Especially for DudeShep (well, not Shep. Dude-new-protagonist), since men are a PAIN IN THE BUTT to make in the Mass Effect creater without having them look like freaky gorillas.

And yeah, a wider variety of USEFUL noses and eyeshapes would be freaking amazing. I do have some hopes after the DAI thing. Though I mostly made dwarves with extra dwarfy faces, so I can't say I've really explored its limitations yet...

Features such as that may not be as prominent several hundred years in the future. Remember, according to the Codex, there are fewer countries.

Well genetic features are not tied to national boundaries, but if what you mean is that humanity might be more homogenous, then you are correct. It would probably take longer than the time from now to ME time.

I just read back to see what this was about. I don't think so. I think they were agreeing with Steelcan, or agreeing with what they thought he was saying.

Basically Steelcan said something about crazy BSNers which could be interpreted as "He's talking about a group I don't like", whoever the group is.

Genetic features are tied to either dominate or recessive allelles. You get more people who end up being heterozygeous, and the features would be less pronounced. This isn't a bad thing per say, but that's what happens.

The idea that say the blonde and redheaded gene would die out has been debunked years ago. Genetics does not work that way.

Right but I think we're talking about how traits would be spread around and while they would still exist, they might be less recognizable as distinctly "Asian" or "European" etc. features.

Well, thanks for clearing that up.

I love how everyone wants to create characters with flowing long hair and afros, etc, when your character is usually a soldier who wears helmets. Are you realistically going to fit all of that hair in your helmet? And would your PC really give about damn how good their hair looks if they're constantly getting into firefights?

Maybe they should pull a Samus/Master Chief/Silencer and not reveal the character for the entire game. You're just a guy/woman in armor.

We don't know if we're going to be a soldier.

In any event, I can't help but think that you're deliberately missing the point with a post like this.

We've always had the option to make a non-white protagonist using the character creator. Unless you're talking about a non-white "iconic" look i.e. Sheploo?

No. Bigot is a term that's thrown around a lot too (especially on the old BSN) I should know, I've been called one (and an SJW for that matter.) Just because a term is thrown around too much and aimed at people it doesn't apply to, doesn't render that term meaningless. Bigots still exist, as do SJWs.

It would be better if people stopped insulting people in general tbh, rather than trying to shut down one phrase.

The latter would be cool, but the thread is about the former, really.

While it's true that we've always had the option to do this, until recently, CCs have been so bad that doing so typically required a lot of time and a supernatural mastery of slider manipulation (forget about the hair, which has been consistently limited and lousy). I think what the OP wants are more varied facial features and hair options to make this more viable.

I'm hoping that a current gen CC will be expansive enough to do this. The DAI CC is certainly miles better than anything we had in ME for this.

That's true. In all honesty I only used the CC when making female Shepards in the ME series, because it was hard for me to make a custom male Shepard (of any race) look human, let alone good.
