True. And it shows that it's a mess.

Plus Shepard is freaking stupid. In ME1 s/he's like what? 28? Durrr! What's a biotic? What's a Volus? What's an Elcor? Tell me about the culture. I've been trough out the galaxy, never saw any of you people. Salarians? Wassat? You have the codex for the player BioWare and voiced ones too. No need to explain stuff, that should obvious for Shepard.

Much of the entire game is written like that, its just huge exposition lore dumps thinly veiled by a NPC, sometimes when speaking to Tali or Liara in that game it feels like you are talking to a walking codex entry, Thankfully they did away with that after ME1.

Avengers in all cutscenes. Oh look Dr.Eva Core is escaping from me. How cute LOL. And I can't catch up even though I'm a Vanguard with Biotic Charge? I can go trough effin walls you know.

To be fair weapon selection is just an example of story and gameplay segregation.

Military personnel train on all weapons in their army's arsenal, regardless of what their job description is. There is no reason why a biotic couldn't be equipped with an assault rifle. That's mainly just done so there is some difference between classes in gameplay.

Shepard is Space Jesus. Plain and simple. The character is so stretched out and unrealistic that it's laughable.

Also my FemShep was always a renegade though-out the series. She killed people left and right and didn't give a single fukk about anyone. She has seen soldiers and civilians bite by the thousands without even blinking. But now in ME3 she somehow starts to care for some child BioWare pulled out of their ass? And dreams about the brat too? And it's not indoctrination? Really?

I do agree about Renegade Shepard and his sudden care about some little boy. I don't care what BW says, I always head canon it as indoctrination, especially with the oily shadows in the dream.  Yep, I'm a bit into the IT thing although I head canon it as being an unsuccessful attempt due to my ReneShep being far too focused on killing the Reapers and them showing some random kid wasn't enough to sway him from that task.

I'd actually say Jacob is the most boring main character in mass effect.

At least Shepard is funny.

None of my Shepards "cared about the boy", but they all appreciated what the boy's death signified: the first of many true innocents to die during the Reaper invasion.

If people have to go back for any reason to "head cannon" after the fact, I'd personally chalk that up to unsatisfactory character development of your Shepard. Not really a thing you should be encouraging more of tbh.

The kid is a symbol, she's not mourning Dave McSnotface age 9.

The future of the entire human race, hell the entire galaxy and all the innocent bystanders in it is riding on her actions. That's what the kid represents. It's just someone innocent she saw die on her homeplanet that has thus far been far removed from all the bullshit in the rest of the galaxy.

Not to mention she's 30 and most peoples biological clock is the size of Big Ben by that point and things are possibly getting serious with "insert love interest here", so her thinking about her personal future isn't exactly a reach either if you want to go that route.

Shep was awesome.

Definitely not perfect, but I know of none better.

If Shep and/or the game sucked so bad as some in this thread insinuate, please explain the almost universal acclaim and inclusion as the best ever, or at least one of the best ever Games.

Shepard sacrificed his well beeing and future to complete his task, there is only respect to be given.

Man, I loved Shepard. She was amusing and shot the scum of the universe (like that "piece of crap" warlord in ME1 XD) and got to hang out with violent psychopaths, aliens and killer space robots. This kind of went off the rails too much in ME3 with the fixed emotional states, but at least she got to shoot her way out of that too.

I don't encourage it but I also won't write off everything else about Shepard based on two or three dreams either.  Heck my Shepard doesn't even talk to Garrus or Liara about that kid/dreams when the option to do so pops up, so regardless of what BW wanted out of that dream the player is still free to determine what it meant to their Shepard.  While I personally don't think my Shepard cares enough about that kid for it to make sense that he would even dream of him (which is why I consider it the Reaper's indoctrination attempt), it's better than getting absolutely no inner conflict to work with at all, which typically happens with characters like the Inquisitor, who is just a pure head canon PC.

If you think Shepard is a boring spaz, turn off action mode.

Depends how you play him, my main Shepard sort of reminds me of Cap from Avengers, always trying to do the right thing while kicking ass.

Paragade Shep shows signs of PTSD, has an anger problem at times.

Renegade Shepard is a douche that sleeps with anything that moves, all different and fun to play as.

Shepard was anything but boring. Your background comes up at least four times during the first game alone, you can play the game in vastly different ways and it will always be interesting. Maybe don't skip the dialogue? If you want to talk about boring characters, look no further than Kaidan 'Valium' Alenko and Ashley 'annoying stereotype' Williams. And even those two have fans and are above the average video game character.

Playing full paragon can be boring. Add a little bit of renegade to the mix.

You can easily fill the entire Paragon bar and still have half a game left to be an utterly merciless renegade. :D

Bioware created Shepard as default as possible so that he/she could represent the player. You're supposed to shape your own Shep. The reason Mark Meer was so monotone in Mass Effect 1 was so he would be as default as possible so the player could fill in the holes.

I roleplay when I play the game..  My Shepard has his own backstory aside from the ones you can choose or given to you in the game.  So when I play, it's an unique experience.

Sorry you feel your Shepard is boring.  But my Shepard I freaking love!

Well, only if you want him/her to be. My PC's are never me; they're just characters I enjoy and shape to a degree with the options available.
