Theory!

  • Bioware has been watching a lot of Guardians of the Galaxy.
  • This guy from the trailer is actually Shepard's biggest fan (maybe Conrad's great great great great grandson).
  • He's been watching a lot of footage from Shepard's glorious days.
  • Thus was he able to perfectly mimic Shepard's jump attack.
  • His dream is to restore N7's glorious days and because he's a megalomaniac millionnaire he was able to build a new pumped up Mako, SR-58 and flashy N7 suits with Daft Punk helmets.
  • He's searching the Galaxy for epic squadmates worthy of the Hero's Legend.
  • Also he likes Johnny Cash.
  • Ha!

Thread be jokes. I think he either leads or is part of the military detachment Cerberus/Alliance sent to Androidabomanable.

I believe the use of the N7 soldier and imagery is purely for marketing purposes.

For better or for worse.

It's just a way to get the fans nostalgic and excited.I don't really like that because I find it a bit manipulative. It's pulling on my Shepard-strings.

But that is just me.

On the other hand, I will be Devil's advocate and say that...what other imagery could they have used anyway? They have to show the public something totally familiar whether it makes sense or not.

A Mass Effect game that's like Guardians of the Galaxy would be fun tbh

I'm not a fan of the overly campy marvel movies. I have yet to actually watch guardians of the galaxy, but I've heard it's silly like that.

It's not that I don't enjoy them, but I want more than superficial entertainment out of mass effect.

Well precisely ;P

I was just trying to put myself in BW's shoes and find a rational way to justify the presence of an N7 in Andromeda who reminds me A LOT of Shepard centuries after Shepard is reasonably dead (unless he/she was cryogenized and Lawson is still around to build him/her back from goo).

I don't know if Mass Effect can still be Mass Effect without Shepard. Watching the trailer I thought "oh hey, Shepard is back in a new suit!" and got pretty excited in spite of what I knew.

And then I heard Johnny and those sound samples and the magic was gone :D

I don't think they can bring back the whole N7 symbol without some big narrative twist of the kind I mentioned - I'd actuallly prefer my version by far (after all nobody said Mass Effect couldn't be humourous), it would fit a lot more with this whole cowboy in space thing they showed in the trailer.

But then maybe this is all for buzzing purposes indeed, and we'll just have to wait and see if the creative direction follows along the trailer indeed or not.

I could dig the Shepard pretender angle.

It's no more campy than Fifth Element. Which was awesome.

The irony is that Mass Effect in its entirety is chock full of superficial entertainment like that. Even its more srs moments felt that way. Sovereign's dialogue was just the sort of cheesy nonsense a game like that needs.

I think he will be the new Nhilus, who dies early on as the "evil" natives informs us they want to wipe out all refugee scum which arrived from the milkyway.

So that N7 guy will be the cool hero and mentor you were supposed to have, and who you will have to avenge. When everything is breaking up and falling appart you have to step forward...

So, what will it be this time, protean like cypher, Inquisitor like glowing hand.... Remnant codex in your head...

Don't do it, Bioware. Resist.

Its Mass Effect's Blackwall. About 3/4 into the game, the individual claims he/she is not what they claimed. The N7 soldier died protecting him/her and he/she decided to assume the role of an N7

Captain Anderson is N7.  Vega is an N7 recruit...  We meet an N7 operative in ME3...

Shepard is not the only graduate of the program...  Probably the most notable, but not the only.  So seeing someone else with the N7 insignia wouldn't surprise me..

In the ME3 "Take back Earth" trailer, Shepard does a leaping omni-blade attack like the guy in the new trailer.

Well, if you wanted to scout a new galaxy, wouldn't you send the best of the best? That's the N7s. There's a reason we didn't send normal grunts to kill bin Laden.
