I watched the trailer and now I'm confused. Is this Mass Effect or Borderlands?

How do you know there won't be humour? There were funny moments throughout all the ME series. Some conversations between squadmates come to mind. A particular toothbrush, a ridiculous cocktail dress, awkward flirting, Uranus probes... The overall tone was just less sarcastic than in Borderland.

I'm not saying the game will not be mostly like Mass Effect and great. What I'm saying is that the first trailer that they've given us, simply makes it look and feel like Borderlands. I'm not against what Bioware is doing. I'm just not going to get excited or buy a game, that is a lot like one I own already.
P.S. There is still a lot of time before this game comes out (holiday 2016) and more trailers and info to come, so stop losing your cool.

How blind do you have to be to not see that 99% of any entertainment media is based on similar before, right back to stories from Greek & Roman Mythology?
Calling this game for being like Boarderlands is like calling COD for being like other shooters.
Who cares so long as it's good. It's dumb concerns like these that makes firms like Bioware spend ages trying to work around, instead of actually just concentrating on making a great game.

When I saw the trailer the music made me think of Borderlands.
EDIT: Probably the desert and the mako also helped in that.

I want Dameon Clarke as the male PC VA. Renegade Shep Hero with the Voice of HJ would be frickin' awesome.
But yeah, not really getting the BL vibe from the trailers. To be honest, I wouldn't read much into them at this stage. It was more of a here's what they're working on type of thing and giving us a time from for release. I think a lot of things are subject to change at this point.

Even if the trailer made me think of Borderlands I don't believe that the game will be anything like it.

So what makes it borderlands is country music and a desert? Seriously? The music in the intros and trailers for Borderlands has been such things as Cage the Elephant, The Heavy, The Vines, Kongos and a bunch of other bands that aren't country and western.I'm not saying the game will not be mostly like Mass Effect and great. What I'm saying is that the first trailer that they've given us, simply makes it look and feel like Borderlands. I'm not against what Bioware is doing. I don't, Johnny Cash is a bit highbrow for Borderlands.

DA: I had a big desert, you probably wont have compared it to Boarderlands simply because it had a fantasy setting. Thats what the logic of the OP makes me think. So any game, even though the desert setting has been used in many many games before and after, makes you think its a BL rip off?
Doesnt Halo have a desert setting in one of their many games? I would get the comparison between Halo and ME, but really, BL doesnt seem quite right.

I'm not entirely sure how Country music and the presence of a desert (in a game where multiple planets will be visited, no less!) could possibly be enough to say BioWare is looking at Borderlands. You're clutching at straws.

To be fair, a lot of topics here don't.

How did you manage to get the trailer as a rip off of Borderlands? I'm a huge borderlands fan and i've played all of them, and not once I thought ME:A would be a "borderlands rip off".

Nope... this is a total rip off of Galaga.
How dare you Bioware.

Well the music still makes me think of Borderlands and that impression came right away when I saw the trailer.

To be fair, if you look at the first five seconds of the trailer instead of its entirety, the comparison with Borderlands is not utterly without sense, it could also be with Red Dead Redemption for that matter.
Of course, when you start to see different planets, a spaceship, space travel, a Normandy-esque bridge, an armor that clearly is Mass Effectian in design, a Mass Effect weapon, the N7 symbol, a mako, krogans, Prothean-ish architecture and an onmi blade... those comparisons kind of lose weight.

I don't see much of a difference between attacking someone with an Omni-blade or an Axe or a sword. Both games use elemental guns as well and Borderlands does it better. I also don't see a difference between the guy in the N7 armor or a Vault Hunter (Zero to be precise).

No-one has ever done a space western before Borderlands/Firefly.
Joss Whedon and Gearbox should sue for copyright infringement.
