I actually think that, in many ways, ME2 had the best combat. Defense stripping and crowd control were far more important (at least on the harder difficulties), thus requiring you to actually consider what abilities to use and when, and made you mix things up considerably based on what you were fighting whereas ME3 was just DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA or COMBO COMBO COMBO COMBO depending on the class you were playing.

I think you might be right, but I'm not going to lie: The omni-punch and combat rolls were pretty damn satisfying.

Yeah, there were some great things in ME3's combat - the extra features that weren't in 2 were typically good additions - but the underlying balance, variety and tactical thought needed were better in ME2. Hopefully ME:A will take the best of both worlds.

I think Mass Effect 3 has the better overall combat. ME2 wasn't bad but it also wasn't fluid, had a lot of annoying issues and while power combos existed, they were difficult to use.

There's a reason why I played 1100+ hours of MP so far: ME3 combat just works. It's not without issues but a clear improvement over ME2.

More (immortal) pets and having the option to buy/discover training manuals for them (like in FFVIII) and actually teach them to do interesting things (BioWare, I want a dancing tarantula!) would be amazing.

I would also like a bathroom that has a purpose. In the past, Shep's bathroom was accessible but there was no real purpose to it--okay, so we could flush the toilet, big whoop. It would be great if we could maybe groom our facial hair, clip our nails, or apply makeup in the mirror. Or maybe every time we look in the mirror NuShep would have some funny comment about his/her appearance.

I also want a Quarian spy who every time I see her greets me with "Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once."

To chime in to this debate: The concept of science fiction "hardness" is pretty established as an way to analyze the genre. It doesn't have to be all one or the other, just a relative measurement. Some science fiction movies and books of genre just strive for more realistic aspects than other.

As for me, I'm okay with Mass Effect not being particularly hard or realistic. Space magic has been a big factor in a lot of the lore. Like OP says, I think it will probably stay that way. In the same breath: I agree that they should try not to fly too much in the face of gravity or physics. I offer my resounding agreement when it comes to never tracking down things like uranium on the planet surface and "discovering" it by pressing buttons until we can stab it with a flag. I'm not really worried about them going back to that, though. I think they're well past that kind of thing. I hope.

I'm not so sure about making the loot system more true to life. I'm usually okay with suspending my disbelief on that front. It's been a factor in most rpgs I've played and it's never bothered me.

As I was scrolling down I was preparing to go get this link and make the same point, and then I see you've got it taken care of.  :)

Yeah that's one of the big things about RPG's I've found myself to the fact you do end up picking up or looting a lot of stuff with the majority you don't end up using or tend to pass to your colleagues so they can. Either that or you sell  it off at a merchant to pay for something you do plan on using. I think if they establish a limit on how many items you can carry as long as it's a sensible amount like 60 is he basic number used in DAI then I think that's fair enough as then you have to decide what you want to keep and what to ditch. I think tbh Bioware's kind of got that balance right anyway. Also with the option to expand that a little if we want to by spending a perk point is a good idea as well for those that want a bit moer freedom. I think for the most part they've got that right.

I have been quite impressed with the Fan Mods that have floated around for customization of face and hair styles. There is quite a bit of creative talent out there, beyond the walls of the Edmonton and Montreal studios, and it would be nice if ME:A allowed a software hook to import fan-created design modules for our protagonist's visual appearance. I doubt that any mod could be sustained throughout a trilogy and DLCs spanning 8-10 years. If such modules could be shared among the fan base, Bioware would make Andromeda even more player-centric.

I applaud all the posts from the advocates for enhancing character customization in talents and skills, from a menu of available choices. Yeah, it will imbalance the collage of teammate powers, but so what?  It would have been nice if Tali could have used a trained sniper rifle alongside my Shepard as soldier, since her armor was so 'basic.' I hope Bioware is listening.

On another note, I work with young adults who have various cognitive and physical difficultes. I wish/hope that the Normal and Casual Play Modes will have the pre-game option to disable the decryption/unlocking mini-games. These prove to be too difficult for many of them to complete in allotted time. I prefer to disable these mini-games because they interfere with the flow of action - also because I'm not very good with them either.

I like story over action and deeper background on the characters. These draw me further into the fantasy. If a pre-game customization choice would allow for reducing the numbers of waves of enemy attacks, I'd be for this too, as it allow me to get back to the story a bit quicker. Reduce the numbers in combat scenarios for those of us who are more story- and dialog-choice driven. If my full play-though time dropped to 40 hours instead of 60 hours, that's fine with me. I'd rather be able to replay the game in a shorter interval.

For deep story development, take for example the prequel video mini-series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn from 343 Industries. Here's the Youtube Link. It delved into the formative background story of Capt. Tom Laskey when he was an officer cadet, and had personal misgivings about being in military service to fight human insurrectionists. Then everything hit the fan. Fighting alongside Master Chief, and meeting Spartan II's Kelly-087 and Fredrick-104, changed his whole perspective. Laskey was also shaken by Col. Mehaffey's advice: "You have to chose what you are willing to sacrifice. At the end of the game, the king and the pawn go back into the same box."  He had to decide whether he would endure the physical damage that occurred everytime he experienced cryosleep, and choose whether joining the action against human insurrectionists would be his future. This is story telling, and is a perfect example of character development. Observing how and why a character's early years made them into who they are today is compelling, not killing thousands of enemies in endless spamming skills . This is what made the epsiodes of Mr. Spock so compelling. For an ME1 DLC, who wouldn't have wanted to play their Shepard in the Battle of Torfan and make the decisions that killed their unit but got the job done; or the Skillian Blitz and holding off enemy forces until reinforcements arrived; and on Akuze, watch your whole unit wiped out in the battle of the Little Big Horn. Think of the wonder of a DLC that allowed you to play all three missions with your Shepard. Reality may be suspended with implausible and hazy technologies, as these are merely story elements in the backdrop, not what draws me in to relish the characters that make them my mythic friends.

I wish for a strong single player campaign, with a rich and deep storyline/plot, plentiful but not tedious and boring side-missions, loveable (and hateable) characters, deep customization of PC, squadmates, and ship/mako...

And a fun MP, with more modes than just horde.

I'd like to see a prequel planetary ASSIGNMENT released next summer, 2016. Maybe at E3 next June?

Since Shepard is not blazing a new trail for us in the M4: Andromeda sequel, I'm wondering if there is any interest in having Biioware release a prequel assignment that takes place on a planet inside the Andromeda Galaxy. It would not explain how or why we've gone to Andromeda. Instead, it would serve as a stand-alone planetary surface assignment that creates a save file for importing a few resources and objects into Andromeda when it is released. In the past, Bioware make a pre-release mini-game that's a chopped down limited version of an assignment that we'll see in-game. I'd like to see something more substantial this time around. Here's why:

In October, 2012, 343 Industries released a Halo 4 prequel mini-series, entitled H4: Forward Unto Dawn. [Youtube link] It was a 5-part, 15 minutes each, set of streaming video episodes, now available on DVD and Blu-Ray. Wikipedia notes that nearly 500 shots had computer generated imagery. It was produced as a marketing effort to widen the audience of the Halo series. How interesting, as if the on-going tale of Master Chief and Cortana wasn’t reason enough! FUD received a Streamy Award, the Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Award, and awards for editing, producing, and filming. Note too that ‘Forward Unto Dawn’ was the PREQUEL to the first installment in Halo’s 2nd TRILOGY. Hmmm… and Andromeda is starting ME’s 2nd Trilogy?  T

The H4: FUD prequel did not reveal anything about the H4 sequel; it just expanded some of the Halo Universe lore a little bit. Shouldn't something on a grander scale be released prior to Andromeda at next year's E3?

Can Bioware do better than 343 for a prequel leading up to Andromeda’s release?

I really hope so. It would not have to explain how or why we've gone to Andromeda. Instead, it could be a stand-alone Andromeda planetary assignment. Usually Bioware releases an small mini-game that's a chopped-down version of one that will be seen in the next game. I'm suggesting one that let's us explore a planet in a larger way, and, allows us to collect some resources and objects that we can gather and import into the Andromeda game when it is released.

Here's an idea I've been kicking around in my mind for a pre-game assignment:

The assignment shows three generic Alliance troopers who are stranded on an Andromeda planet. They have to deal with three combat and survival situations, such as: 1) The troopers have to defend themselves and their limited fuel and water supplies at their temporary survival shelter; 2) Raid an alien weapons / fuel depot cache while under fire; and 3) We could fight on foot against another Thresher Maw-type sand monster, so we can get our hands on critical food, water, and resources for survival until an Alliance rescue ship arrives. If they run out of food and water within a time limit, our troopers die, and fade to black. The squadmates could chat around their campfire discussing anecdotes of our new protagonist (build the suspense!). Let the soldiers use ATVs so we can get around our region of the planet and get a nice glimpse of a new planet and some CGI video artwork. The soldiers could operate a radio transmitter calling for assistance, and our player's conversation with a rescue vessel could use an interactive dialog wheel. If the troopers survive their ordeal, we'd then hear and see an Alliance rescue ship landing near their location to pick them up, and they would carry with them some resources to take back to the new Alliance Ship - which we can then import into the full Andromeda game. If a player has an ME3 save file, then they would get an extra bonus - a new weapon. Rinse and repeat.

Let the squad have a mix of soldier, tech, and biotic talents, including assault and sniper rifles, grenades, medicine, hacking, damping, lift, and throw. It can reuse the original trilogy’s OST background music, so we can still hum a few bars of our favorite oldies…. Save the new tunes for the big surprise.

I think that something like this as a prequel will tangibly INVEST OUR MINDS AND EMOTIONS into wanting to be inside our nearest spiral galaxy before we get there.

What do you think? Would this type of pre-game assignment be a worthy as a prequel?

What do you suggest and and why?

I'll choose fun over making gameplay and story make complete sense with one another. Disconnects here or there to make for a more pleasant experience is welcome in my eyes. I must be in the minority but I loved how over the top ME2 was with everything, I almost couldn't take it seriously at times. ME1 by comparison feels a lot more grounded, but is nowhere near as much fun for me.

I never minded how a tech class could choose a biotic bonus power either. In ME2 as an Engineer I always go for dominate so I can hack every thing I come across and have fun. I never even minded seeing my Engineer equip an Avenger or a pistol out of nowhere and shoot things when they could easily use a power. Shepard was always military regardless so it never took me out of the experience.

Those aren't the things that made ME inconsistent amongst all 3 games. The fact the lead writer left without properly planning the trilogy out for the writers still on board to be able to develop it consistently with the past games was a huge reason for the disconnect. It suffered from inconsistent development. I would love to see a more stable development team for the next game. Stability amongst the staff is a key factor.

What I like to see is some not all quest that are not that obvious, that might change a outcome to the main story or it might get periodic of credits or resources for example saving a mining colony and get messages. As for not obvious quest it isn't marked for example if one of your team mates/or you, is a specialist in electronics you could ask them to search the area were terminals are located around to reveal information that could lead to a pontential person or tech upgrade ect, other abilities apply obviously.

In the end I would like some of the quests, you discovered actually MATTER and I understand the filler quest has to be there, but at same time isn't a requirement to complete the game this is a reward for people taking there time to explore and discover which is kinda the theme I am getting from this game.

Also side note would love If your a biotic in cut scenes you use your biotic powers not always a pistol if in fight clip like sky car chase with Kai Long would have been great too see that and more reference acknowledging your classes be nice as well.

I'd like it to be more RPG than Shooter with skill points. Which I'm sure is unlikely.

Also, I'd like the PC to not already start out as a decorated bad-ass. I like some build up. I know it says the explorer is combat trained but that doesn't necessarily mean they should already be the best of the best. Also unlikely.

More decisions that actually affect something. Some of the decisions you would make in the trilogy were terrible on paper just to be kind of waved off. If I choose not to do a certain "quest" I'd like for there to be consequences sometimes. And the same can be said for actually doing it when it would've been better off to not.

Yes, more RPG would be nice... but the gameplay worked so far.

Starting as a relative nobody would work... except for the part where we're in charge. Perhaps we aren't, at first? It would be interesting.

In ME1 you could skip certain parts, like the interview or the inspection. The consequence was that you didn't gain any exp or reputation. I know you mean actual consequences, not meta stuff. I think over the years many games had quests you had to finish before a certain point in the game or you'd fail them automatically. ME3 with the Grissom Academy had that. If you didn't rescue them before a certain priority mission, then they were all killed or captured and you get to fight Jack as a special Phantom. ^^

I enjoy ME3 gameplay, no problems with that. Only a few issues with the story (ending, etc.) But it was a good game, i expect the same for Andromeda.

Multiplayer at the same level and if possible enhanced mode of missions.

I miss places like the Citadel and Omega.

Nice alien races.

Good new technology.

I should have made several threads for each topic instead of one long post. This thread isn't taking off because of information overload. ^^

It's a good thread.   I liked suggestions from all of them.  Mine would match yours and I'd add a couple of extra things that I'd enjoy.

"What I want is a good story that makes sense internally. The Reapers didn't lose because Shepard was so awesome, they lost because they made very stupid decisions. If I was in Sovereigns place, I would have won the entire war before Shepard even became a Spectre. I want supposedly intelligent enemies to make intelligent decision.

I want the things we are told to match up with the things we see.

I want a setting that doesn't make me wonder if I'm surrounded by idiots.

I want smooth, fun gameplay without timesinks and other bs.

I want friendships and relationships that matter.

I want a game that runs well on all platforms and has been adapted to each.

I want choices that matter, that have an impact on the game."

I'd like the choices to make a difference in the endings (more than one).  ME1 will always have a special place in my heart, but I enjoyed ME2 a bit more with how I could have characters do something that they should be able to and have the endings change, or delay something, and even the Tali/Legon and Jack/Miranda confrontations.

Always more dialogue and more interaction between my character and the others.  I also liked what they did with ME3 having the characters talking to one another and occasionally being able to interact with that.  Though I wanted to play cards with them.  oh well.

NPC's that have their own personality.  Some I hope to like or love and others I hope to dislike and want to get rid of.  At least in some games.  DAO let me kill Zev or recruit him, then later he might betray you or help you.  He wasn't my favorite character - Alistair was, but Zev was actually the most interesting one.

Minor stuff -

*I'd like to be able to sit down.  I know this is really minor but there are all those chairs and I couldn't sit in any of them except the one in ME2's  Shepards room

*Some small dlc with things like hair, clothing, armor, weapons,  These are the one thing I like to have mods for, and I'd rather play on my xbone than pick up another copy for the pc (DA2 they had different sets you could download, I never bothered with the warrior because I don't play them and TOR has the different hair styles you can buy and different robes).

And, Yes I'll say it - One ending out of however many they end up with, that I don't hate.  A balance between tears of joy and tears of happiness.

ME:A remind me of that Canadian tv show Andromeda. Bioware could get a few ideas from it.

As for the celebrity VAs, here's a list of names;

Kevin Sorbo
Sean Bean
Charles Dance
Kit Harington
Peter Dinklage
Jason Momoa
Vladimir Kulich
Liam Neeson
Jim Carrey
William Dafoe
Morgan Freeman

I wouldn't mind BioWare taking some of that advice.

I like to see TIM again especially hearing Martin Sheen's voice. The excuse of how he's able to be in the game is that it was his clone that Shepard encounter on the Citadel.

Jk. think the number one I could really asked for is to know what happened to Shepard's crew. I want to know what to my bae, Tali ♥

She's dead because Bioware says so.

With the kind of "Western" Theme they've hinted at with the Music Choice in their Trailer, I hope they may take one or two or elven Pages out of Firefly's Book and turn us into someone very independent, with a very diverse Crew from many different Backgrounds and maybe allow us a bit more Agency of our own (even if the Plot stays as mostly linear as it progressed in the latter Mass Effect Games). This could range from actually letting us decide what to do to merely letting us define our own Goals or Stakes in this Game (allowing for "I'm only in it for the Money" to "My Name is Not Shepard. You killed my Father. Prepare to die.")
