I generally feel like DAI traded focus for numbers.

Lots of dragons, but none of them individually as threatening as DAO's Archdemon. But a few which do come close, at least in lore (not as much narrative). I mostly liked the inclusion of the Red Lyrium Dragon, Guardian of Mythal, various high dragons setting roost, and more recently Hakkon Wintersbreath.

Still better than DA2's severe lack in dragon importance for a game called Dragon Age.

It's called "Dragon Age" not because there are tons of dragons but because of the goofy way the Chantry names centuries.

Personally, I think expecting dragons to be scary in this series is kind of ludicrous--the bloody things almost went extinct because of hunters, after all.  (Or maybe they DID.)  They are big strong animals but they're still basically animals.  The fantastic elements in these games have always taken a back seat to the people, and I like it that way.  The fantastic stuff is ultimately just spectacle.

Of course, I didn't find the Archdemon all that impressive, either.  The run-up to the fight was so long and boring that I just wanted the stupid fight to be over.  But I've never found the process of hacking away at a huge health bar particularly compelling no matter how flashy it was.

Even with all the Dragons, DAI didn't focus on them more than other things.

Those things being Demons + Darkspawn (or rather the legacy of the Darkspawn, not the Darkspawn themselves).

Most primarily, I'd say DAI is about Demons.
(DA2 was primarily about Mages, DAO was primarily about Darkspawn) (I'm acknowledging there's MANY things secondary, very prominently secondary)

We have yet to see a Dragon Age game that I'd say is primarily about Dragons, but truly, I think its coming. DA5-6 or something :).

DA4 might be Qunari.

Well, from what we've been hearing about the Qunari and their connection to Dragons, those two focuses could end up being the same.

I'll opt with it having multiple meanings, personally.

We see more and more evidence that the 'real' dragons (not even High Dragons, but 'beyond') are, in fact, avatars and vessels of 'gods'. I don't think this thread will end with DAI.

I think there is also some good theorizing that even before the elves (or alongside them), there were the dragons. I don't think this means nothing.

Exactly. Newer DA lore is emphasizing a possible connection between Qunari and Dragons. Just one more step towards a Dragon focus in Dragon Age. I think people should get ready for more Dragons, not less.

But yeah, DAI is more about a quantity of dragons, not focus on them as the most meaningful in plot.

Dragons are people too. Sometimes. We know this by now. The message will be pushed even harder. Sure, most of the dragons we fight are beasts, but we're not stopping there.

Dragons became common place in DA:I. That removed the fear of them. If you kill 10 of them easily, they aren't scary anymore.

In that respect the worse thing is the Dragon bait in EdL: 3 High Dragons in a row? Oh come on...

"You" = The Inquisitor and 3 of the presumably most powerful (either to start, or eventually by end of the story) agents of the whole south of the known world.

"Easily" = Casual Mode. Otherwise its not very easy, not plot-wise, heh.
