The Liara effect - Don't make the PC automatically like some character who shows up in game just because.
That's a great place to start.
Isn't that the Anderson effect? Or the Joker effect?

I can be a jerk to Joker if I want to. Anderson (like Hackett) has an established relationship with Shepard, and I don't recall having to say how great Anderson was.
Uh yeah, Joker. he really annoyed me in ME 2, felt like he was running everything on the ship and then he even gave covering fire. ![]()

The cheapskate tries to use my name to get free drinks and whines about being bait. He's dead to me.
What's even more interesting is that sometimes it doesn't work. This is intriguing to me. Rather than designing a character in your head and making decisions that character would make, you picked a decision and then went about making a character who would do that thing.

you didn't die to save him intentionally

Imagine how the story would play out if we were able to abandon him. Dick move, but hilarious if we can get a final shot of him realizing what a fool he was.
The cheapskate tries to use my name to get free drinks and whines about being bait. He's dead to me.
Well, using him as bait without telling was pretty cold and risky.
The scene with the free drinks was weird. Dude you are the pilot of the Alliance finest ship, did some really good flying and you are part of the Shepard crew even if you doing everyone´s job in ME 2 annoyed me. There should be no need to make something up. ![]()

Despite possibly breaking his ribs, or all of them, due to his magically spreading bone disorder.

But it is hilarious.

Uh yes. It got really exaggerated like the weak quarian immune system. Ribs, "break my arms" and so on. Unless it´s about dancing with EDI of course, which would be dangerous for him. Then it doesn´t get mentioned.
- Crew conversations can't be non-cinematic with autodialogue or Kasumi/Zaeed one-sided commentary. You press "Talk" and you enter a real conversation.
- No excessive amount of autodialogue a la ME3 naturally
I personally think that ME1 was horrible regarding the "dialog wheel" scenes. Most of the time when I ran around the ship to talk to someone nothing had changed so I went through the same dialog over and over after each major mission because something might have changed somewhere in the dialog tree. I think somewhere between ME2 and 3 would be fine.
I don't understand the second point though. Do you mean banter between the crew members on board the Normandy and on missions or unique scenes that happened at some point in the story?
I agree with every other point, they would be nice to have.
Straight up dying to save him sounds pretty much like friendship to me.
And had that idiot left for the escape pod earlier, Shepard would never of died.
I also wanted to put the clown in a straight jacket for saying there's no regulation's against dating the ship's ai

Yeah, that one bothered me too. I got the impression from ME that the Quarians didn't wear their suits on their ships. Tali makes a comment about never having seen her father smile. The statement loses meaning if she never sees his face at all.
Or just a good CO.
Normally, yeah. But Shepard in ME is can just be a total psycho, who's clearly unfit for service. Ignoring all the episodes of outright insubordination, the Shepard gleefuly can let people die for a lot less.
Why not? If a cutscene is designed for Shepad to carry a gun, why does it swap out my Phalanx with a Predator? Because it can clip through a wall if it's not the size of a predator? That's BS indeed.
I understand it if it's because I only have Shotgun and Assault Rifle because they require a two-handed stance, but the games frequently swap out even the guns you carry of the same type with the basic gun of the same type and that's the issue here.
<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>
You forgot to read his last sentence. It explains why. And, I agree with him.
When a cut scene is created, it becomes a static object to be forever repeated when played. The played scene is NOT a real-time generated animation. So, if the cut scene was made with a basic gun in his right hand, that is what gets pulled from the hard drive and played for you.

ME is inconsistent. Quarians had a different immune system because they had nearly no microbes or viruses on Rannoch and what little they had was partly beneficial, so they lived in symbiosis with it. After living in the sterile environment of the Migrant Fleet their immune system got even weaker.
Here's my problem with that: Tali explains that she doesn't actually get sick from an infection, it's an allergic reaction to the foreign bacteria etc. So she takes immuno boosters, herbal supplements and so on... shouldn't she take antihistamines instead to suppress the allergic reactions? She's just making it worse.
And if the Fleet's environment is sterile, why are they wearing their suits all the time?
Where is the sterile room for Tali on board the Normandy? Even the best suit can not be worn for more than a few days before it chafes and the wearer develops sores. Let's not talk about hygiene... even if it was possible to rinse the inside of the suit while wearing it, it would never be as effective as washing yourself... and since the suits have multiple seals, I don't see how that would be practical. Suit maintenance is easier if you're not wearing it either.
In ME3 we have at least 3 Quarian admirals on board, where do they stay? In fact, where's Tali cabin? Can't believe we give Allers one for her own and Tali needs to set up a tent with sterile atmosphere in the ladies room. ![]()

Considering the size of the Normandy and the crew, I'm pretty much certain that there were more floors with rooms for the crew to sleep. There's simply to much people there to fit in just that small crew's quarters, and that's the SR2, since in the first Normandy the only quarters got to see is our own. So I'm pretty sure they could set up a room for Tali with a sterile atmosphere in some part of the ship that we didn't saw.
Same goes for the migrant fleet, we only seen a very small portion of it. And the fact they aways are in their suits even there can be explained because of the scarce resources the Quarians have, maybe it's cheaper to stay in the suits than maintaining a viable atmosphere for them in the entire flotilla? Having only small rooms like "bathrooms" safe enough to take out the suits for cleaning doesn't seem that unreasonable for me.

The SR-2 had more beds and pods than crew, assuming your squad slept in the rooms assigned to them. There were no more decks, the ship design was just hilariously inefficient.

As for the crew quarters, you don't need a bed for every member because some are always going to be on shift. It was a tiny room though.
On the Quarians, looking at ME2 alone, the Quarians wearing their suits all the time isn't a problem. My problem is that ME gave me the impression that they didn't. Like I mentioned before, Tali makes a comment about never seeing her father smile that is meaningless if she simply never saw his face. Secondly, she says that her mother died when a disease spread on the ship, which shouldn't be a problem if they are all wearing their suits all the time.
-Anything similar to War Assets or the War Table would be a mistake. They really never have much of a pay off and end up just being numbers and text on a board in the end.
-Have a camera and protag focus on the characters we're talking to, it feels weird when they're just staring of into space while characters talk at us.
Let us have camera control during conversations. Then we'll all get the camera to point where we wish.-Have a camera and protag focus on the characters we're talking to, it feels weird when they're just staring of into space while characters talk at us.

No, Assassin's Creed 1 did this, it felt really weird. I rather have the camera in conversations like ME1 (and ME2 for base game characters) and DA:O again.

Chackwas specifically mentions needing to stock up on antihistimines as well as antibiotics after you acquire Tali in ME3. Since the only threat from levo chirality species microbes would be that of cytokine storm, she would only need the immuno boosters for Garrus because they share chirality. Admittedly, if you do the Tali romance you get a lot of bad science technobabble and some gratuitous drama (really guys, you're worried about safe snu snu but not random bullets and explosions?), but it stays a bit more consistent if you don't.
The med bay is presumably sterile, though its privacy isn't the best if those windows can't be shuttered or there aren't some curtains or partitions somewhere. She could probably use one of the bathrooms as well with some preparation. I assume that this practice in general is probably common considering that quarians go literally everywhere on Pilgrimage, and the other species probably aren't building facilities specifically for a species they all hate anyway. Your hygenical concerns are based completely upon assuming human physiology is analogous to an alien, though I don't really feel like speculating on the role of bacteria and microbes (which quarians don't have nearly as much of) in a lot of it because Tali's sweat has already traumatized this community enough. Even if quarians were just dextro handed humans, and the suits weren't made of magic with one able to do things such as relive themselves and have it just disappear because "mass effect fields", what's to say they aren't doing exactly as you say they are offscreen? Finding a couple hours every few days isn't really a huge deal. I always took the anecdotal labeling of the Fleet environment as being "sterile" as sort of relative. Tali's mother dies from an airborne virus, for example.
Tali would sleep in her suit in the crew quarters with the rest of the crew, just like quarians do on the Flotilla with their families? That one isn't hard at all. Presumably Shala'Raan does the same during her stay. I don't know what other quarians are stationed on the Normandy, but if you could tell me where to find the others on the Normandy outside of the post Geth Dreadnought mission debrief so I can proposition them (before they return to their own ships) I would be very grateful.
