zones as well.
In meanwhile we're waiting for Valve's response, here's few workarounds that might work:
- Make sure that Steam client is the latest version (File - Check for Steam client updates...)
- Restart the client
Add ME2 to favourites in My Games - tab (or remove from favourites)
- ctrl + alt + del, kill the steam.exe *32 in Processess and then restart the Steam.
- Quit Steam (make sure it doesn't haunt in Processes either), delete
AppUpdateStats.blob & ClientRegistry.blob files in Steam folder and
then restart the Steam client. It will update the client and then start
preloading / updating some games (didn't work on me on ME2 though, but
it did update Titan Quest, as I did update the steam version withu
unofficial patch XD)
- THIS METHOD WORKED FOR ME:
Open up a web browser (I did this with firefox), type
steam://install/24980 to the address bar and hit enter. It should ask
program to launch it on, select Steam and after accepting it luckily it
should bring the basic installation screen. After the file preparing
and such, when you press OK, it doesn't show up on steam client that
the game is updating, but if you browse to steam/steamapps/common,
there's now Mass Effect 2 folder, which is getting files and growing in
filesize steadily. THIS DOESN'T SHOW UP IN STEAM BANDWIDTH METER.
After that, you can type in steam://preload/24980 and then
steam://install/901242 & steam://preload/901242 just to be sure.
I'm on a slow 358kb 3G connection, I did this less than two hours ago
and the Mass Effect 2 folder is now almost 300mb. Slow, I know, but
better than not preloading at all.
I really do hope though that Valve does update the Steam - client so we
can preload the ME2/ME2 DDE properly, I'd like to be able to pause my
download and restart it at my will. Or well, you know, be preloading it
overall without shady workarounds!
It worked for me! You won't see the folder but the Steam client will be actually preloading. Good luck!
