Canadian here.

Yup... we're being screwed because of a weak dollar. $75 is still $75 to us, despite the crappy exchange rate. I wouldn't be shocked if the dollar recovered and we still find ourselves paying $70-$80. The greed in this country is unreal sometimes.

But it could be worse. Look at our Aussie cousins. We're paying $75, and they're paying $100.

I only buy maybe one or two new releases a year anyway, and then I cherry pick the bargain bins. Nothing is really going to change for me.

So this is true in all ex British Colonies?  Wait, technically the US is an ex British Colony...can't we all be on the pound?

I understand the Canadian buck has always been tough, but it's rough on Euro countries too when it comes to gaming and buying power?

While I'm sorry for the Canucks who are getting ripped off, the "oh noes, I have to pay $75 for games now, how awful!!!" is really quite funny.

GTA V was on "sale" recently for ~$90 on Steam.

The currency exchange is $75, but many publishers are charging $79 now.  not quite Australia but we are getting there.

The price of gasoline (or petrol for you royalist scum bags!) in Canada is far more outrageous than games.

Are you sure?

Again, here, in Italy, we're paying outrageous prices for the gasoline, on which pend taxes that belong to wars or tragedies happened in the '30, up to the current year. Stuff that has already been financed and still we're taxed for it.

I'm not saying we have it worse than other countries as far as the amount paid to any extent.  However we are getting ripped off badly.

Price of oil was over $100 we are paying 1.15 or so at the pump here in Alberta, which is cheaper than the rest of the country.

Price of oil crashes to about $50 and the price briefly goes down to around .68 a litre then migrates back up to just over a dollar per liter now, the price of oil has not risen to anything over $60.  The usual excuse, platitudes etc are put forth by the oil industry but they are making a killing on the margin.

Lol "ex?" Last I checked, unlike the rest of the Anglo-World, Elizabeth isn't our queen and we no longer owe loyalty to the Crown. The rest of you have no excuse though.

https://en.wikipedia...giance_(Canada)

Its our open secret (as in people often aren't consciously aware of it until it is talked about, while it isn't mentioned much by those who more directly work with it) that Canada is still technically a monarchy under Queen Elizabeth. ("But we're just a democracy!!") We just have a constitution that otherwise lets us govern ourselves, true, but in our structure, we're just given a super super super long leash by the Queen. It is archaic tradition.

This is one of my biggest problems with being Canadian - we seem to have no backbone when it comes to the association with Britain. We can't seem to just let them, and especially the queen, go and just remain allies.

Some open monarchists claim to want to wish this system to continue, because the parliament itself is considered to have worked better than a republic (etc), and losing one of the cornerstones of this constitutional parliament will only make, for example, positions like the prime minister into more of a president-ship, so this implicitly opens Canada even more to being like USA, and eventually easier to absorb as part of the USA/a North American Union. Its like this paralyzed middle state where going one way (being clear and loud and positive about ALL of our current system) will make us overtly British subjects and going the other way (changing our current system) will make us Americans. rofl

I'll take loyalty to the Crown over our idiot Prime Minister any day! All 31 days of my life as a Canadian Citizen (family is from Quebec) is becoming harder to be proud of with each passing day.

How about neither, and just a loyalty to the country that you wish to keep safe and improve as best you can? That's an oath I can get behind (at least until I can have faith in more global government; yeah I don't have that at present).

Screw being loyal to individuals to such a ridiculous extent. Heck, most responsible governments are implicitly aware of this, using a system of various checks to keep an individual from exercising too much power on a constant frequency.
