Said it before. I want to help test the beta but I'm not going to spend $30 just to do it. The second Bioware adds a beta client for X1 or opens up the pc beta to non-pc players I'll sign up! It shouldn't be that hard for Bioware to open up the pc beta client to anyone who has registered their copy of DA:I regardless of platform. If they want more beta testers they need to open it to a bigger audience than just the pc crowd!!!

This exactly... Except the x1 beta comment. I play on 360 and I know there's no chance of getting a beta client there. I'd love to help test and get a peek at upcoming content. But if they want more testers, they need to give us more options. I preordered the game, clearly paying full price for it. I'm not willing to pay any amount for the pc version just for the "privilege" of beta testing. Battlefield 4, another EA game on Origin, allows console players to access their "Community Test Environment" basically beta/ptr. Having Battlefield 4 premium (on any platform) registered on the origin account gets you access to the CTE, why can't we have something similar here?

Pretty sure lack of fan beta testing for XBox and Playstation is due to Microsoft and Sony.

On PC, you can get the beta straight through Origin and bypass Microsoft. With the two big consoles, you have issues. Same reason why - in theory - patches and DLCs could release immediately to PC whereas they have to go through an entire certification process whereupon Microsoft and Sony give it the thumbs up before it's ever allowed to be released to XBox and Playstation players. For sake of uniformity, PC is held back so that the patches and DLCs are all released at relatively the same day/time (barring, of course, any timed-exclusive deals for DLC).

It's that simple, from what I understand. Fan beta testing is never gonna happen on the consoles in the current state of things and processes.

I suspect the reason this beta isn't going well is because its contents cater to few people.

And you saying that sparked my memory and I do remember doing the open alpha and beta tests of Destiny.

However, I still think something that is involved across three platforms (Xbox, PlayStation, and PC) has those issues. I never got involved with MAG, but was that a PlayStation-exclusive? And I think the Destiny Alpha and Beta may have been PlayStation-only as well at the time they occurred. If that was the case, then there's the explanation of that. I also think those all were pre-release betas and nothing more - no beta testing of additional DLCs to come.

I also think all three of those cases were actually server load tests, which may have a lot more lenient ruleset than something that is adding content to a product that is already out in the market. To be honest, I can't recall hearing of any beta tests on any console platform that occurred for DLC of a game already on the market by any developer - but I could be wrong.

I'd join, but for me it would be waste of time. just hard to bring myself to even play DAIMP these days.
I'd login to beta once then come running right back to Witcher 3.
Burnt out on BioWare MP and connection issues I guess. And yes I know joining the beta could help to get those issues resolved sooner than later.

Sorry for being blunt. Respect to the devs for making the effort to get this going in the right direction.

Destiny did have an open beta, but you're right, it was mainly a free preview of the game and a server load test. I haven't seen any game that's on the market have a beta of any kind of play test although DICELA is trying to get a test client out for battlefield 4 for x1.

The thing is, origin already allows devs to allow us access to pc betas when you have a console. Again, DICE being the ones kinda paving the way. If you bought battlefield 4 premium, you get access to the bf4 test environment on pc. Bioware could do the same thing. I don't know how easy it would be to do, but it's clearly possible.

Does anyone remember how long dragonslayer was in beta before it released? Just so I can make a mental note of how fast the cycle goes.

It was in beta for a few weeks but then there was a delay due to exclusivity rights. Depends on EA's contracts rather than finished product
