I Have Almost No Expectations

I don't know why I felt the need to make a thread about it, but I did, anyway.

I'm not sure if I'm the exception to the rule, because one doesn't usually make a thread for, "I have no opinion on the game, no expectations, and I'm not upset about any of the design decisions that we know about."

Mind you, I have no plans to buy the game yet, either. What I think is most likely is that I will buy it within a month or so of it going on sale, depending on early bug reports. I am looking forward to seeing the multiplayer, and barring significant disappointment with what I hear when it comes out, I'll probably buy it for the multiplayer.

As far as the single player campaign goes, I am no longer invested in it. I don't care about the setting, I don't care about the characters, and I don't care about the Mass Effect story, anymore. It doesn't bother me that they're leaving everything story-wise behind, because I honestly can't see any way for them to follow up on it without doubling down on the endings.

If the new game's SP campaign is good, I will be pleasantly surprised and happy. I have no reason to assume that it will be bad (although I will most likely consider it born of an excuse to have a sequel to a franchise that had no story reason for one, which is fine.)

I've created a thread with no potential for Andramada. I must need more coffee.

Well, we still know next to nothing about it, so that doesn't really surprise me.

I think your assurance that there's no potential for Andramada might be overly optimistic. There's always potential for Andramada.

I don't understand. You seem to be suggesting that having no expectations at this stage is sensible.

I am still on BSN, right? O.o

Almost everyone felt the trailer wasn't very striking, so that's why I don't have a lot of expectations, although I don't have that "it's Mass Effect it's going to be amazing!" feeling that I had with ME3, for obvious reasons.

Having no expectations is pretty smart, you might even be pleasantly surprised when the game comes out.

It held my attention and confirmed the setting, but it didn't really do anything beyond that. I suspect that won't change until, say, N7 day or so when they release some actual information about plot and character details.

Other folks are plenty fired up about it, though.

I think you have the right idea. There's already a bit of hysteria over certain topics....it's ridiculous when we have basically no info about the game. Me, personally, being a huge ME fan I have positive expectations, but that's just me.

Fair enough, man. Mass Effect has always been a Day-1 purchase for me, but I need to remember that people care less about space and futurism than I do. The things that Mass Effect did I have trouble finding elsewhere, and that's reason enough for me to keep believing in the series. That said, I can't expect people to appreciate the game for the same reasons I do, so I respect your decision.

In during Andramada.

It was hardly something to raise expectations, just some generic scenery, some Johnny Cash and a title drop.

I actually loved the first two games, and certainly felt the third's SP campaign had some stellar moments that paid off well. That's definitely what brought me to the series. I knew nothing about the first Mass Effect when I played it, and it easily became one of my favourite games of all time.

But my relationship with the series changed once the three games were over. If the new one recaptures some of what that first game had for me, I'll be thrilled, because I love that stuff.

The series has its fanchise, too. People who swear on their mother's life that there's no ME without Shepard will be around just as GOT fans will be, whatever color their endings or weddings.

I didn't think a game could be set after ME3 without exploding everything all over again. This Andromeda move pleasantly surprised me. But then I learned that Mac Walters was still in charge. So I'm back to where I was, namely wanting nothing to do with it, especially nothing where I give them money. Apart from that I agree with the OP.

I'm just here for the lulz.

I feel people are too hard on Walters. Sure, I think ME3's ending was a misstep, but I thought a great deal of ME3 was still stellar, including the stuff we like to rip into these days.

Walters was directly responsible for creating/signing off on the ending, even if he wasn't the only one responsible. I simply have no faith in the creative abilities of anyone who thought that was a good idea.
