Also, please don't suggest a willingness to pay for DLCs that offer things that can be implemented into a base game. Last thing I want is to have to pay extra for something that could be in the game at launch. And if things like long hair or casual outfits are created post launch, given their size I'd hope to hell they were free add-ons rather than small paid for DLC packs.

Well, technically, anything in a DLC could have been in the base game, if the company wanted to spend the zots. Except maybe a DLC that fixes problems the devs weren't aware of before launch, or were aware of but didn't have time to fix.

Really? Because it took a DA:I modder less than a week of her own time to create about 20 new styles. Some short and some long, but all looked far better than the hair Bioware gave us. Her only problem is getting them in-game. It would be way easier if a developer could just make something good to start with. The game won't be out for a year and a half. Surely someone can spend a week on hair. And if not, outsource it to a modder.

A modder isn't paid to work on the game and a modder doesn't have to worry(immediately) about other resources in play, especially conflicts with certain scenes that would have an effect on a game's reputation before launch. There's a big difference.

I'm still on the side of "more options pls" but I gotta mention there are significant differences between a modder's resource management and that of a development team actually working on a AAA game.

Aye. Mainly my hesitance is for someone making the choice to go, "Lets not put this in the base game, lets create it later/save it for later and charge for it". I don't think anything CC related should ever come at an additional charge.

If you could only have either a lot of hair options, including good looking long hair, but only one or two different outfits, or you could have the hair options we have now but a huge variety of good looking outfits, which would you choose?

For me, it's the outfits. I'd love to have long/better hair options, but I'm way more interested in the clothing, personally.

Hmm... I'm inclined to choose clothes over hair, but that's probably because I didn't like the non-uniform casual clothing options that were available for me. I probably would have been much happier with them if I had the N7 hoodie or jacket that male Shep had.

For clothing, how about:
-- Dress uniform, a couple of non-dress uniform options.
-- Hoodie or PT (athletic) gear, preferably not so form-fitting as Ashley's hospital tee or Vega's.
-- Dress civvies. I'd like an option for females that is not a dress or skirt with heels.

As for hair - I've sort of learned not to expect Bioware to supply bunches of attractive hairstyles. I could be happier with fewer styles if we had a broader color palette for hair. The Sims 3 allows players to choose 4 colors from a rainbow color wheel - base, highlight, roots, and tips. I don't suppose we'll get customization to that extent, but I would hope they could provide a broader palette than what we've had thus far. My first character had very natural-looking carrot-top red hair in 1&2, but that color was not available in ME3, so she had to have a dye job.

So - if a lot more hairstyles aren't going to make it into the game, I would hope for more colors.

But, again, they still have to create the hair anyway. Do it right the first time.

The ME team does a much better job at hair than the DA team, so maybe it's my own lingering bitterness over having dev-created hair clip through my Inquisitor's ears or having 8 shaved head styles. All that to say that short hair (which is what we'll likely get) doesn't have to be boring or ugly and the textures can still look good.

Believe me, I get annoyed when I see several versions of effectively the same thing. Drives me nuts when its teased too, like that image before launch of a pre-alpha dwarf in Inquisition with a braided side ponytail that amounted to nothing.

When it comes to armor, I'd like something that has Kai-Leng's little back skirt, but slightly longer.

Also let us actually buy these casual clothes like we do IRL. Imagine you kill this large feral alien and your reward was a tank-top.

Now that I thought about it, I'd pay money (horse-armour style) to have a cute and simple braid bun option.

For hair, all I want is a separate option for sideburns style/length, regardless of hairstyle.

Gimme that, and I don't care if they re-use DAI beige pajamas for the casual outfit.

Let me step in before someone brings up my mane;yes, for the whoever knows what time this is, I'm backing long hair options in a Bioware game.

Now, because this is Mass Effect and not Dragon Age, I don't think long hair should be a choice in combat scenarios unless there's some workaround. BUT, I have an idea-

What if you could, with several specific hair styles, choose a "casual" version that your character would use when not in a combat location or as long as a helmet is not in use?

Basically, let me explain-

You're at the CC. You're looking at the options for hair, and you see some buns, a ponytail of some sort, things of that nature. They have a note on them that informs you that should you choose that hairstyle for your character, you will have an additional option for a casual hairstyle to use when not encumbered by a helmet. Choosing it, you're given additional options for when your character lets their hair down(literally). How about it?

Or, lets say the game allows you to enter combat without a helmet(unless the story demands it). You can have a somewhat longer style there, but with a helmet on obviously your character's hair is explained to be tied up in some fashion(in reality, there's no need for it to be textured since the player won't see it).

I'm trying to find ways to fit longer hair into this franchise, because Bioware continues to disappoint me year after year with their games' lack of hair options that are even somewhat close to my own.

I know my hair is insanely long and I don't expect anything quite like it in a game(barring the braided ponytail in DAO which was nice), but damn.

Short hair got old ten years ago. Come on now. Give us a little something more.

To be fair though, I'd rather they not bother with long hair while they continue to have hair be motionless.

Worst thing about a long hair depiction in a video game is it looking like a stone that never flows in the wind.

I'm pro this.

There's no reason why a character like Ashley shouldn't have her loose me3 hair on the ship and her me1 bun in combat. It's not an either or.

In the cc section that has the slider lists

  • Hair
  • Hair Colour
  • Eyebrows
  • etc

Just add

  • Casual Hair
  • Combat Hair
  • eyebrows
  • etc

If they can change the protagonists clothes from armour to casual based on where they are, then there's no reason they can't do the same for the hair.

Allers and Ashley were two specific characters. Both of them had just one face shape and just 1 - 3 different outfits, so giving them long hair without having to deal with massive clipping issues is a lot easier. Making those options available in CC where there's an unlimited number of possible face combinations, and add in different casual and combat wear meshes, and the clipping issues become really serious really soon.

Also, IMO, their hair looked really weird, like it had been glued on their shoulders, and at times the hair designs looked really fake and plastic-y. It's possible it was caused by engine and hardware based limitations and so on, but nevertheless I wouldn't cite Diana's and Ashley's hair styles as a vote of confidence for Bioware's hair making abilities (then again, making even semi-realistic long hair is really hard and there are a lot more worthwhile problems Bioware could spend their limited resources and development time on, so I'm not complaining. I'd love to have a couple nice long hair options, but I can just as well do without if using them would require dealing with a host of clipping issues or fake-looking hair helmets).

Hair needs to be customizable in game and not simply as a preset you choose once at the start of the game.

It's hard to go a step back after The Witcher 3.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I'd love to see casual outfits like this:

I wouln't say no to their hairstyles either.   Though I really like the idea of 'combat hair' and 'casual hair'.

The trilogy didn't seem like it was sticking to modern military conventions anyway, so why not have some casual clothes that are just casual clothes? Not just military slacks or uniform. For a male protag, I think Shepard's leather jacket outfit was lovely, and the hoodie looked good on both.

IMO the pants Sheploodieloo wore with the leather was dumb. And I'm not the biggest leather fan, I stayed in my N7 Hoodie. Gotta represent.

I definitely want long-hair tied back options, braids and ponytails, and buns. I don't want loose long hair for my character specifically, because I would consider it messy, and it would likely clip below a certain length.

But I want long hair options for other people.

I prefer latex to leather, honestly. I'd love to have latex options. Including casual, layered outfits, like a latex catsuit under a zipped up sleeveless hoodie, jeans, and motorcycle boots. That's pretty much my dream casual outfit.

The hoodie was great. The dress in ME3 was horrible. The Kasumi dress, pretty good. The leather jacket was cool and looked badass on femshep. Too bad she didn't get one.

Let's start this topic early, since it always comes up eventually anyway.

Can we please have a wider variety of casual clothing options in the game? And long hair as part of the character creator? As I say for every game, I would be more than willing to shell out $5 for a DLC that contained nothing but a wide variety of casual clothing options in it. I KNOW I'm not the only one.

I specifically want longer hair for the male character.  All of maleshep's hairdos looked like Elvis or "Sarge."

Bioware is wholly incapable of offering long hair. I think we just have to accept their hairstyles will be abominable now.

Ha sadly this >.< The hair's gonna suck, y'all. It just will. Clothing probably will, too.

It's like they got stuck in 1987 or something; BioWare reminds me of hairstyles of characters on 80s fantasy novels haha xD

Unless nobody minds The Sims hair clipping through the back, arm, chest, etc I don't think long hair is feasible without hundreds of thousands of man-hours working on the graphics for each, individual, strand of hair to ensure that that doesn't happen.  I'd just be happy for nice, modern, bobs and angled hairstyles, as well as non-granny looking buns and chignons.

As for clothes, please, please, please for some decent casual wear and pajamas!  ;)  :D

Leather Jacket and Hoodie are a must for returning outfits.

And this, bloody this:

Aside from that, I would like a wide array of commanding officer style outfits, crewman outfits, etc
