I don't want to be an N7 again. Hopefully the main character isn't in the military at all and is butting heads with the N7s all the time. Kind of like the relationship between Adama and the President in Galactica but obviously the main character being more hands on and with non-alliance military combat training.
More than just a suit of armour.

I detest armor that looks like it was painted on the protagonist just as much as bulky armor that looks like you could hardly move around in it without getting stuck everywhere.- I like the middle ground, somewhat form fitting and effective yet looking like real protective armor.
And this goes for both genders.
This was my favorite:
And ME2:
That was the armor setup I mostly used with male Shep in ME3 (I switched it up for a couple missions), except paired with the Kuwashii visor, the Sentry interface, or the N7 helmet.

Yeah I wouldn't mind being something other than an N7, too. Not that I disliked being one the first time around, of course, but being N7 seems - to me, at least - as much a part of Commander Shepard's character as their armour. I remember reading a reply in one of the other threads that said the poster would like our new protag to be kind of like the ODST to Shepard's Spartan (I'm paraphrasing here, but that's the gist of it from what I remember), and in some fashion I agree.

Sleek combat armor is my go to, and the only thing we should be going on a mission in.
However, I wouldn't say no to situation that demand us wear other clothes in combat, like getting ambushed on shore leave or going undercover and getting in a gunfight. Those would be great.

Yeah, I like that. Like when Shepard got ambushed by CAT6 at that sushi place.

For that matter, I hope we get much better non-military casual outfits for shore leave, or undercover missions. Give me something that actually blends in if I'm going someplace like Omega but doesn't look aweful. I really just want to get away from being a space marine.

That would be great. I did like the portion of the Citadel DLC that did something similar.

I actually didn't like the fact that you had shields, even in a hoodie. For biotic classes, that'd be cool (or being a Turian/Quarian, as those rarely/never take off their armor) since they have biotic barriers, which they generate themselves. Soldier, Infiltrator, Engineer, and their kinetic barriers, not so much. I mean, does Shepard always wear a shield generator harness, or something? Then again, I guess if we wanted to go that deep into the lore during gameplay, we'd have to have ME1 mechanics...

Yeah I was curious about having shields, but then imagine fighting through those CAT6 mercs with nothing but a single bar of health left and no barrier over that. Energy drain was my friend that day.

The Omni-Tool may be capable of generating shields.

The omni-tool does create a mass effect field, which it uses to hold the omni-blade in place, but I never saw anything about it being a shield generator.

I was just throwing it out as a possible suggestion.
I'm sure there are mini shield generators like for people who have to worry about assassins.

Yeah, it's a nice little thing, but I haven't seen/heard/read anything in the lore that it could generate a kinetic barrier.
I mean, it's essentially a mini-computer on your hand that can fabricate stuff with the right materials.

I'd like to add something.
It's perfectly possible to get the ME:A main cast to wear something different than actual armour suits for periods of time during actual missions justified by the game's story: for example you get ambushed during shore leave, you are on an infiltration mission in an habitable environment etc. For such instances i'd like them to wear something clearly futuristic and yes, i do like bodysuits/catsuits for females, too. Something like this:
Looks fashionable, somewhat sci-fi, some cool visors/glasses also there and a bit badass, too.
That is an abomination,go and play Final fantasy if you want characters that wear improbable clothing.

Honestly, I miss the inventory system and giving my squadmates armor. Giving more defense, I hated they nixed a good portion of rpg elements.
To answer it, I don't like it. I absolutely hated when fable removed armor in 2 for sake of customization. Like they couldn't do that for armors.
I hated the fact that companions have better looking armour then we do, I am hoping our armour is just as good.

It's Shepard, some sort of concealed shield generator seems plausible to me.
The Inquisitor's armour was alright but it had no variety, each class got exactly the same look and poor Adaar didn't even get any race options and then there's the beige pjs...
I want choices for both armour and casual outfits. I liked ME3's mix and match method when it came to Shepard's armour, I'd like to see that return.

I want birthday suit with just a belt for my Mass effect shield generator. Boom. My characters naked bod would throw everyone off and I'd have the tactical advantage!
But seriously. I like the look of the few concept armor's they've shown so far. They always have one armor that I like the look of in the ME games.

Heh, this kind of comments i find always somewhat puzzling. I totally understand that what i posted isn't like what you'd see on the streets today. On the other hand, the general clothing style has always changed quite a lot throughout our own human history and who is to say what people might wear 200-500 years in the future? Especially in a sci-fi game with a wild mix of different species and cultures present.
You see some weird things from Final Fantasy, i see two security people, probably from a tropical planet/climate wearing high tech uniforms allowing them to blend into the similarly dressed crowds. The stripes of cloth hanging from their backs are actually nano-machine-infused devices that can transform into something akin to dragonfly wings and provide the ability to jump to or down from extreme heights with no injuries. The visors they wear allow them to easily track and recognize potential suspects in large crowds and offer different light filters to adapt to different lighting conditions. Complete with some futuristic transforming weapons on their hips and personal shields, the lady and the gentleman are perfectly equipped to carry out their covert operations.
Just a little bit of imagination required.

Playing without or with less armour could add bonuses to biotics and mobility, and possibly some Tech stuff.
Armour should deffinately add some kind of damage reduction at the very least. And I would like for it to be needed on more hostile planets where the Environment is very unforgiving.
Anyone should be able to wear anything, but for some it might be a detriment in some cases.
