SHOES? I don't know how some people don't invest in shoes. Genuine, high quality leather and construction goes a LOOOOONG way, both in fashion and function.
I want a new pair of Doc Martens, but I refuse to pay more than 40 bucks, because I've been ruined.
Check on ebay, I've bought new docs for under 50. Also check vintage stores. Can't speak for other places, but in NYC there are many consignment shops selling a ton of great condition docs for second hand prices.
Regarding games.....I grew up with fashion and work in fashion, so I worship heels as much as the next fashionista, but it still p***es me off to see video game chicks wear high heels. Wearing heels for such long, strenuous periods of time is horrible for you! Shortens your hamstrings, leads to knee problems, leads to bunions, and the list goes on! For people like Vivienne or Yennefer, I can suspend my disbelief, mainly because they are spellcasters and can afford to be relatively stationary. I'll let it slide for someone like Cat woman just because she hangs out in a city and probably has a motorcycle or something.
But chicks like Ciri? Where footwork and stability is your lifeblood? And you spend all your time traveling "between worlds" and through dangerous forests fighting werewolves and what have you, just NO. Women will say they're "fine" (and just "fine", not GREAT) when they chase after taxis, subway cars in heels or spend long nights partying in them, conveniently buzzed, but no sane woman will traverse the wilderness and engage in combat while wearing the same pair of heels, unless they're willing to either break their legs or deteriorate their joints 10000x faster.
Adding heels to fighting video game character designs make no sense. It's not like "heels" is essential to sex appeal. A nice sleek pair of combat boots look super sexy on both men and women.
And tying back to OP - no to boob armor. Sure it looks 'sexy', but like heels, they are completely detrimental, if not fatal, to hardcore combat. So no to heels and boob armor.

fire ants can come at me!
the only issue I've ever had is when the concrete is too hot for no shoes or the dreaded broken glass bottle issues
Yeah, those problems would motivate me to wear shoes.
To keep including on topic stuff, I don't have the hate for Miranda's heels that some do. I thought they worked for her.

But surely boob armour could work provided they use a biotic shield, no?

But how do we even know these new male asari from Andromeda will have feet that traditional footwear will work for?

And can you imagine him trying on high heels??

I didn't even notice she wore heels to be honest. I was too busy looking at.. Other things.

That would be a mess.
It's simple. If the hypothetical race had different feet they would design a footwear practical for that race.
Or if they were a basic, savage race their feet would be built to adapt to the environment.

I'd wear heels if I hadn't torn my ligament in the bridge of my left foot as a teenager. I used to love wearing granny boots, but I haven't been able to for years.
See, I'm a little more open minded about "boob" armor in ME than I would be for DA. When it comes to the protagonist, they will very unlikely go with boob windows or other structural problems. Honestly, if it's mostly like the N7 armor (which is a little too cone shaped around the boobs for my taste,) I'm fine with it. It works for this series, unlike a series where there isn't as much magic accessible to everyone. If an enemy comes close to you in ME, you've got other problems to worry about.
Asari: I'd rather them invent a new race that was similar to the Asari over adding/changing the existing Asari lore. I think a race of all-male empaths that look more human (Garrus is awesome, human looking he is not) would be a cool idea for the series as a whole.
There, see? I can be on topic. ![]()

I don't care about off topic. But mods do
So yeah by all means people, discuss shoes but add on topic stuff for the sake of on topic

Really? Maybe you could make a recommendation.
Male. Something comfortable and all-purpose. No obnoxious logos or brands. Subdued design.
I never wear shorts, only long pants. Usually jeans. And usually dress shirts.

So much as tripping and falling face flat with boob armor on is enough to crush your sternum. No military organization would be dumb enough to fund something so useless as that.

people pay more than $70 for shoes?
I've dropped 300 on a really good, specialized fiberglass toe insulated workboot and thought it was money well spent, especially in winter. I also have a pair of my Dad's (I may be female, but I'm a lot taller than my pop, so I inherited the boots) boiled leather, steel toed boots that are older than I am. And I've taken them through the wringer -- job sites, hiking, camping, rocking of all sorts... I'd pay a lot more for those. With only a little beeswax and love, they're immortal and amazing.
I wonder if we're going to have amusing start-at-the-foot-pan-up introductions this time around...

Well, the Mass Effect lore has established it as perfectly functional armor.

Honestly, I think the trailer's use of Johnny Cash actually hints at cowboy boots being the default footwear of native Andromedean life forms. I would greatly approve of this, and I think Commander Shepard would too. in fact, I dare say it would be his favorite type of footwear on the citadel.

I can believe that with with ancient, medieval armor, but with insulated padded, kevlar lined space armor that just happens to conform to the human body?
Shapely Form fitting armor seems like it might be reasonable, with the right technology.

Armor is already shapely, the kind of shape that doesn't catch projectiles.

believe it or not, even ancient and medieval armors put ease of use over most other factors (sans protection)

I always point men towards GQ Magazine for fashion. They are very informative on all aspects of menswear, including how to find good style for whatever function you need, good fit, good construction, etc. I like their GQ Selects series (they do a spread for each month, click on the GQ Selects tag to see the spreads for other months)
Some of their looks are too overtly metrosexual for my taste (like they wear some of their jeans just a bit too slim) but GQ has a great eye in general. And yes, the budget of their selections is luxurious, but the point isn't to buy everything they suggest. Their spreads are informative enough to provide inspiration and therefore give men a good idea of what to look for within their price point. What you can also do is take note of the brands they suggest, and look for said brands for second hand prices via ebay and what not.

Well thank you, but the reason I'm asking for a recommendation is that I cannot stand any of that and would rather just trust someone who knows what they're talking about.

I'm using the word shapely as a synonym for form fitting. If that's not quite precise enough for you, I could change it.

Not to mention shields that take most of the force.

I know, right? I have my concerns and requests in DA, but this ME is a different matter. The devs try for more or less practical armors for DA, and it works for that world. However, when it came to armor in ME2 and beyond, most of that got tossed out of the airlock after ME2. Most of them show some skin being exposed in the vacuum of space, save Shepard. That alone negates most of the "realism" argument as far as I'm concerned. I said most, because I am not a fan of boob windows in any case. I know, Samara, but I thought that was too much. Seriously, down to her navel? WTH, old ME team?
