Everyone here is aware of the Indoctrination Theory of Mass Effect 3 which implies that the ending sequence of ME3 was all in Shepard's Mind as a battle between his strong will and the influence of the Reapers. Everyone is also aware that if your EMS is high enough (5000 i believe) and you pick the Destroy option, a secret ending is shown in which Shepard lives and takes a breath. If this is the case then the war with the Reapers is still going on as the Crucible was never really deployed against the Reapers. BioWare has never really come out and disproved the Indoctrination Theory nor did they ever discuss the infamous breathing scene in which Shepard lives. My question is this: Now that Mass Effect Andromeda is announced, could it possibly take place during the Reaper Wars? If Shepard never really destroyed the reapers and the ending sequence was all in his mind then how are we suddenly in the Andromeda galaxy? Did the cycle continue with the Reapers harvesting everything and going back into dark space? Could a small group have escaped the milky way and the reapers by leaving to the Andromeda Galaxy? What do you guys think?

Extended Cut disproves Indoctrination Theory, as you get the narrated slideshow explaining the repercussions of your choices.

It was not in Shepard's mind, it was real.

What happens to shepard then? If the breathing scene really does happen then what happens to him between the end of ME3 and MEA? Maybe he will be mentioned in MEA in the codex entries

Crucible is a trap, RGB endings aren't real, EC cutscenes are visions of what Shep thinks will happen, the reapers are right you can't beat them. War was lost and survivors make a run for Andromeda.

Explains the "last hope for humanity" part from the leak survey.

Lives happily ever after with <insert LI here>.

And if MEA takes place in a distant future, every original trilogy character is likely to be long dead.

Create or find wormhole technology, build up a massive fleet in the Andromeda galaxy, then head back to the Milky way Galaxy, join up with whats left of the Milky Way races, and kick Reaper ass into oblivion?

That would make way too much sense! Don't be silly it's Bioware.

There is no IT. There is no breathing Shepard (cause that only happens for one of 4 endings).

Do we actually have to go through this again?

Lol. You realize that what you are proposing is that not only was the ending so bad that they had to move the story to Andromeda, but it was so bad that they had to move it to Andromeda AND adopt IT?

That's a bit overkill, no?

As long as the ship/ark/station/whatever left for Andromeda before that happened, but arrived long after that happened, that would not matter and we would likely never, ever find out the answer.

Indoctrination Theory makes more sense than Ark Theory, so if between the two I'm for IT.

There are still IT fanboys trying to pass off their wishful thinking for why they didn't get their happy ending with their space waifu in a third person shooter as a legit theory after three years now? Seriously?

That nonsense has as much credibility as those nutjob 9/11 truther conspiracy theories that involved remote planes or holograms.

And here we go again.

I don't know, man. I've never played the ME series until like, a month ago and I just started ME3 yesterday. I've already had a few dreams with whispers and "oily shadows." I think it makes sense that the Reapers at least tried to indoctrinate Shepard. Why wouldn't they? I haven't played through the end, obviously, so I'll have to withhold my opinion on whether the entire ending was in Shepard's mind, but I don't think the theory is too far out there.

The other question I'm curious about is why we'll be having pretty much the same races. We'll be in a different galaxy. Asari, Salarian, and Quarian didn't evolve there too. They all had to get there. Why and how is what I'm curious about.

Let's put it this way: it's as likely MEA will involve IT as it is that Bioware will retroactively release ME3 DLC with IT.

Because much like "Cerberus experiment gone wrong!", Indoctrination has never been more than a gimmick that's used as a mook generator and license to kill.

How do you figure that? Quite honestly I think the Ark theory makes a lot of sense. Plus it's really the only way ME:A can sidestep the endings in a believable way besides just blatantly ignoring them.

The indoctrination theory has never made sense; People that believe it does are just ignoring blatant evidence. On two separate occasions Vendetta points out that Shepard is not indoctrinated, once on Thessia and again in TIM's office. Not to mention the star child AI at the end says about TIM, "he could never control us because we already controlled him."

Also, the IT is a wayyyy worse ending. It doesn't resolve anything. Shepard is just indoctrinated? Yeah, real great improvement  ^_^ .
