So qunari are the strongest mages... That's unexpected. They're also the best race for damage builds.

I've done 2 mages now, one qunari and one elf. And I've realized qunari are the best mages. They get extra melee defense, something mages lack in. But the main thing is the vitaar, it gives a very nice extra damage boost that mages of other races don't have. For a while I couldn't understand why my elven mage seemed to overall do less than I remembered my qunari mage doing at the same point in the game, but then I realized that I was missing an extra 12-15 damage or so that my qunari had thanks to their vitaar. So they have the most defense and attack power between humans and elves and qunari as far as mages go. For that matter, this makes qunari the best race if you're going for a DPS build where you focus on damage more than anything else.

IF you are looking purely for damage builds, yes Qunari are best.

IF you are looking for armor variety, humans take the cake.

IF you are looking for story and content, I would say elves get more interactions and make more sense in the end-game view.

what makes elves fit more with the story?  I havent gotten very far in the game yet, but I went with an elf archer (couldnt see a human being that acrobatic), sounds like good news if my race choice will fit well with the storyline.

Later on in the story (and throughout it at parts), it starts getting elfy. There is actually an area that is pretty elf in nature.

I think you nailed this.  Although I was rather fond of the High Keeper armor schematic, both for stat building and the way it looked.  Anyway, without spoiling too much I'll second that both the main story and the DLC are pretty elf driven, which was a surprise after the Andraste heavy beginning.

I would assume that maybe, the dalish do not know much about the gods, so the character was looking for new information that the Dalish did not have.

Andraste promised the land where most of the fighting takes place to the Eleves, why is it a surprise that the game is Elf driven. It was not for me.

To me it seemed, with the class overhaul, any race/class combo was a damager...

And yet that part of the story was originally written for Hawke (well/arbor wilds/flemeth were part of DA2's expansion).

Personally, I think DAO is the better elf game (both Dalish or CE). I think the elf stuff here works better to screw with an Andrastian type.
