So you're saying that all we need to get more girls into gaming is have shirtless Hugh Jackman and Chris Hemsworth everywhere?
Maaaaaaaaaybe? I would not say no to it

So i'm seeing a pattern here. People don't seem to actually have a problem with sexualised characters in games, so long as they're not women.
I'm seeing a pattern here, too.

Mass Effect 1 did it right, in my opinion. None of the crew was overtly sexualized at all (no absurd cat suits, exposed cleavage etc). They've shown they are willing to go the route once before... one can hope they'll do so again (and it's not because I'm prudish, far from it. I just find it utterly immersion breaking because it screams "teehee, here you go boys, boobies and butts for you to oggle while you try to save the galaxy") ... sigh.. it's tiresome. Have your boobies and butts in the game.. but save them for romance scenes, don't have a senior citizen Asari in stilettos running about slinging mass effect fields whilst her breasts threaten to flop out of her unzipped top.
Except Benezia, and her awful dress was all the more startling for it. The first time I saw her I just about fell out of my chair.
Actually, they went to see the movie for the sexy men.
What, you tell me they went to see the "story" instead?
Not sure what's your point here.
I'm saying that although subjectives exists there are some beauty standards that are considered universal because they appeal to a wide range of people.
It's not entirely subjective as you suggest. Certain things just are more popular for a reason.
Does that movie even have a story? ![]()
I wonder if Snake has the "male equivalent of lingerie".
You must not have played "MGS4" the man walks around in a form fitting skin tight body suit the entire game.
Not to mention:
Kojima has always been equal opportunity when it comes to sexual exploitation

I'd say that going more towards pretty boys of jrpg's might help, there isn't really need for men in revealing clothing when you can have characters that look like Cloud.
Yeah, my point was that people's tastes vary.
The latter is funny because Quiet is a soldier and yet she wears little to no clothing. (and yes I know about her "condition", still a lame excuse.) She could wear something else that can help her than getting naked for pure fanservice.
She still looks ridiculous, imo, she'd look hotter in some "ninja-like" clothing..... they could just make her naked and be done with it.

Have you seen Snake's sneaking suit?
This, I don't know why people find it so hard to understand that men aren't sexualised the same way women are. The qualities that women find attractive in men generally aren't the same as qualities that men find attractive in women, so of course they are going to be sexualised in different ways. Of course there's some crossover, and some qualities are universally considered to be attractive, no matter the sex, but men and women aren't the same, what we are attracted to Isn't the same, and what makes us attractive to the opposite sex isn't the same.
For one level we played as a naked Raiden! I wonder how females squeed to that?

Pretty much this.

No I haven't played these MGS games. Only the new one, and I haven't seen Snake in a suit like this, or even showing skin. Hence why I asked.

Or maybe most people here seem to want characters wearing sexy outfit when it fit them, and where? Like having armour when out in space or in a poisoned atmosphear, or not having catsuits with flyng boobs when they are some kind of monk warrior? ![]()

I much prefer masculine man from pretty boys. Expecially the anime ones tent to appear like adolescent or flat chested girls. Not that I would not like such character if he have a great personality attached to, but I tend to prefer the more "mannish" man. ![]()

Ew! Cloud was a little boy. Now Sephiroth...
Depends where I guess, I was mostly meaning something like he was in Advent Children. Sephiroth, well..I don't like his haircut ![]()

Aye, you do tend to do that.
*Uses scantily clad women as examples of things to purge from gaming because sexualisation*
*someone posts picture of scantily clad man*
"Oooohhhh, MOAR please!"

I'm just happy they brought Rainbow Mika back for SFV. She'd make a nice replacement for one of my absent SFIV mains.

Haha, yeah these complaints wouldn't fly in Japan. People are whining about how Quiet is dressed in MGSV, meanwhile Kojima is tweeting about how shaking a plate of eggs Benedict makes them look like boobs.

I'm actually hoping they will, since there is lot that anime and not only Japanese, but Asian games should at least tone down.

Lol Kojima's hilarious.
Let's make some characters with large breast and long hair and pasty white abs....said no Japanese developer ever...Haha, yeah these complaints wouldn't fly in Japan. Doubt it. Japan loves it's fanservice.

I know and they really are out of control with it so if some critic actually got to them it would be only positive.

The Japanese rarely give a darn about western criticism in regards to their cultural views on sexuality, while most critics like Sarkeesian or Arthur Gies speaking points mostly comes across as xenophobic hate speech.
In short good luck in making the Japanese give a damn about those criticisms.

I guess saying I'm hoping was incorrect, since there is no hope. Sigh. ![]()
Still secretly hoping for globalization to do it's magic.
Why should they have to change? In a free market, they have the right to cater to certain groups. And if they want to have sexualization to a stupid degree, alienating certain customer bases, that's on them not being able to make as much money that they could have potentially made. They shouldn't have to just because it offends people's sensibilities.I guess saying I'm hoping was incorrect, since there is no hope. Sigh.

But you do realize this goes both ways? Just as they're free to do whatever they want with their games, the people also have the right to complain. It's up to them to decide what direction they're taking. It's the same with this thread -- people complain, but it's up to Bioware to asses what they're going to do with it. Idk, I think it sucks to tell people that they shouldn't criticize something just because developers should keep their artistic integrity no matter what (??!) I don't see those same people saying the same about the ME3 ending in all those numerous "ending" threads, lol.

Like I said, it's out of control and it degrades their products. I have no problem if someone wants to go all fanservice, but do anime's like One Piece really need sexualization they have gone through? Does Eiichiro Oda really need to waste half of fan question answers on how big Nami's boobs have become and does Luffy's dick stretch? Lot of things I love have been infected by this in Japan and it's always sad that you have to facepalm half of the time you are watching your favorite anime's.
