The thing is, which some of you lot don't realise is that it is really easy to create a gender divide if you so desire.
Simple things like favourable reviews leading to payrises for employees along with denials of pay increase due to not meeting spurious targets is ridiculously easy andperfectly legal.
I know, I am involved in such decisions.

Even giving higher profile projects to certain people over others creates it. You lot must live in cloud cuckoo land.

payrises? What? Such think exist?

Of course!
How could I think the contrary, when a woman dont receives a favorable review is because she is being cheated, never a man can be better, more dedicated than her in that role. ever. injustice. Thank you for getting me out of mine cuckoo land.
I see everything clear now. injustice, sexism, MISOGYNY. must be the patriarchy.

let's ignore the fact that all modern Western civilization is built upon a meritocracy.

That companies will promote the less competent in a role just because they have a penis. After all having a incompetent person running things generates profit. /sarcasm.

Sorry bad english

and these women were doing the same amount of overtime per month?
They were in office the same time as the man?

More. In my case, much, much more - and got a lot more done, too.

I find it hard to believe, because if is 100% true, only need one of these women look in their paycheck, and paycheck of a man, and boom the company has a labor claim in the hands.

Try again.

In most organizations, employee wages are a deep, dark secret. You'd need to hire a lawyer to even subpeona the wage information to make a comparison. Filing a lawsuit is a 6-12 month (or more) process during which the plaintiff can count on having to deal with a very hostile work environment. And they dare not ever be 5 minutes late or fail to meet a new set of impossible demands, because everything about their work will be documented in painstaking detail and made to look as negative as possible.

There are reasons why most people don't bother. It's rarely worth it.

and taking into account how young people behave on the Internet these days I also think twice before hiring a woman for my company.

There ya go.

A+ logic.

The fact that people like you exist, is sad.

And I can not judge my merit in relation to others because I would have a distorted view of the facts.

It can't be a meritocracy when it's the evil patriarchy keeping women out of the workforce!

No, I study social sciences which is wider subject.

It's just as useless and just as unlikely to actually land you a job.

Congratulations?

Sometimes information comes out long after the fact.

In this particular case, the 2 males who were hired to take over my role were hired in at a higher level than me. Meanwhile, I was denied a promotion to that level because... reasons (all having to do with not being a card-carrying member of the boys club).

And I can not judge my merit in relation to others because I would have a distorted view of the facts.

The facts in this case are not that easy to distort.

I served as chief architect, designer, and development team lead for a product that was very well-received. So much so, that not only did we grow our direct customer base rapidly, but also sold it to a major manufacturer who re-branded it to sell as their own. I traveled extensively, not only domestically, but also internationally to represent the product and serve on standards committees. Several key pieces of the technology I created were patented.

Adding new features to my product was fairly easy, because my architecture and design was extraordinarily extensible - because I had the foresight to make it so. The other major product in our stable had to be completely rebuilt to include those new features. They had chosen a much less advantageous design.

New people joining the team were always pretty impressed by how thoroughly my work was documented, and how crisp and clear the organization of all of the moving parts.

The proof is in the product.

well it has reached the point where I can no longer argue with you.

I do not know the subject personally, and I do not have access to review or of your colleagues. the only thing I can tell you is, if you believe you are being screwed by your superiors, look for greener pastures

Not true, it's the perfect qualification to get a writing gig at Jezebel or The Guardian. Probably about the wage gap too!

I don't see the problem with sexualized characters, they exist in all media of different types, lots of shows and stories, movies have eye candy for both men and women

My contributions were eventually recognized and rewarded with back-to-back promotions and a hefty bonus - though I don't know that I'd ever 'catch up' with the males who were paid more all along.

It was ultimately too little, too late, as I was way past burnout by then, and left.

but has some evidence of sexism, aside from you think that was earned less for being a woman? or simply a case of the corporation be screwing you for profit?
sometimes you did not have enough friends in the management, that sort of thing

I never said you did.

Social studies is still a waste of time and money. Better you find out now from me than years down the road when you don't get any jobs.

edit: unless you're comfortably upper-middle-class and well off, like most social studies majors. Then you don't have to worry about finding work, you can just write for a progressive news site. As long as the person applying has a pulse, they're hired.

They certainly didn't 'screw' the male employees for profit. Like I said, they hired 2 higher-salaried males to do the job I'd been doing. I even trained them, and was moved to different assignments.

There are reasons (other than interest or aptitude) why there are so few women in STEM related fields. It is very much a boys' club, and they seem to like it that way - at least, that's been my experience.

People really are still parroting this wage gap nonsense, aren't they? Don't you think that if women really were cheaper to hire, that employers would just hire more women and not hire men?

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the overwhelming majority of women graduating from college who don't take STEM degrees. It's even funnier when one considers the fact that more women than men graduate from universities.

It was attempt to make you aware that you did, but guess I should be more straight-forward: you are out of line and being rude as heck.
