I dunno if I'd actually care to have a helmet that does that, but rather just something that folds up, sort of like the Dead Space helmets. Those things are pretty cool.

In a universe with contractable weapons, why the hell are there no contractable helmets?

What, I really, really don't want, is the AU accent attached to another character like that- ever. The whole premise of Miraanda's accent also being marketed, to appeal to NA males in particular, was highly disturbing. It also caused problems, for me, and other aussie/NZ women on ME3 MP. Some comments, that got really annoying, really quickly, whenever my friends or I spoke in the lobby:

'Oh my god you sound like Miranda, and thats hot.' < this is the PG version.

That sucks.

In a universe with contractable weapons, why the hell are there no contractable helmets?

Especially since the helmets simply disappear entirely when entering certain areas. On Noveria, you have to have the helmet outside, but when you get inside Peak 15, there's no fade to black to load a scene with the crew sans helmets. The helmets just clearly vanish from their heads. Thankfully that never happens again, but it always bugged me a little that the helmets are big bulky things they'd have to carry around but are nowhere to be found.

I guess though that this would require a total reworking of helmets, because if the game had collapsible helmets, they might have to design a number of different sorts to equip to get different stats. Like, the recon hood wouldn't exist in this collapsible helmet game, or it would be one of those rare varieties that actually fizzles away like Starlord's mask.

I always thought Miranda's armour outfit in 2 looked better than her catsuit. She looked better in it. Same with Ashley's combat armour in comparison to the catsuit in ME3.

I think it would be an excellent feature to implement into this game. Hopefully they do, and I don't mind them having to cut some of the old helmet designs if they have to.

I always have the helmets toggled on so I've never had to worry about this.

Personally I'd be into something like what Ashley wears in the ME 1 Cinematic Trailer. I like helmets in general, and this one would give a full view of the face during conversations, and drop down (fully, instead of to just below the eyes, like Ashley's version) during combat. Not a big fan of the de-rez effect Starlord's helmet features.

Indeed.. and sometimes it got really creepy. One time, some guy asked my friend  'Could u say I love u Shepard, in that hawt accent of yours?' She told him to go and get F*** She told him he was f***** lil  disrespectful C**t, and that au/nz women were there to play the game..and not be harassed.

People like that guy, are the reason she won't play online anymore.

His mask isn't holographic, but I'm talking about helmets can do this period

Alright, I admit I don't know exactly what kind of technology the face mask is supposed to be, but I assumed hard light hologram due to the way it appears and disappears as light.

Also, while I loved the hell out of that movie, and think that is a cool effect, it's still way, way, way less realistic than the idea that Miranda's catsuit offers some armored protection.

Would've been fun if Miranda's accent was more New Zealander.

Wow, I still don't understand what's the big deal about this. As a straight female I don't have problems with any of the armours that the females in ME wear at all. They are all nice to look and I think Samara wins it all hands down.

My only gripe is not seeing enough of Kaidan's or any of Garrus or Thane's booty.

Because technology to create ultra lightweight, flexible, bullet resistant fabrics is already in development in real life. It's a long way off from making skin tight catsuits, but the idea is based off of actual, real world technology, where as helmets that do that are based off of the writer's desire to show the character's face while also having them have some head protection.

One idea has a basis in reality and one is the invention of plot convenience, and one of those things is inherently more realistic than the other.

James has one particular armor where the "helmet" is basically just this monocle thing, so in any environment that calls for a helmet he'll just be wearing that thing with nothing else. And then there's Javik, who is apparently so cool that air crowds around his head so he can always breath.

But the ME series already have things like contractable weapons and omni-tools along with them forming into blades or shields

Something like contractable helmets wouldn't really be less "realistic" that Miranda's catsuit

As much as I like Javik, and I do, they were just being lazy with him.

Protheans are so advanced they can breathe in any environment :P

Imagine the engineering that would have to go into weapons that can reliably collapse in on themselves and then expand and be ready to fire reliably in seconds every time.

Are we just disregarding the meaning of the word "realistic" now? I'm not saying I'd have a problem with collapsable omni-gel helmets, they wouldn't be terribly out of place in the story, but they aren't based on real life, real world technology. Which makes them inherently less realistic - i.e., resembling reality - than an utra-lightweight, highly flexible protective material would be.

Collapsible helmets wouldn't be omni-anything. It would just be an elaborate mechanism that's tied to the hardsuit.

Like, picture it more as a tonneau cover that folds back into a mechanism around the nape.

Well I specifically avoid using the work realistic in settings like Mass Effect and Dragon Age for many reasons

And to be clear I'm not saying it should exactly like the way Starlord's is I'm talking the concept itself which should be possible in the ME universe which the weapons do it to an extent
