The original picture uses the pose to make a stronger distinction between a male and female human. Your picture just shows a small and a larger human. IMO a clear step backwards.

Well first, it is not my picture, I found it. Second, I posted it for the others who might like it. Third, that pose is quite uncomfortable after standing that way for more than 2 minutes.

It's a pose.

Have you ever looked at any photographs, ever?

People very often pose in positions that they wouldn't be in without a camera pointed at them.

You know, the argument that characters 'can be sexy and still realistic' or whatever doesn't seem to hold much water when people are complaining because a character in a full suit of armor not showing an inch of skin is in a feminine stance.

It's not that big a deal. And I agree, the pose clearly identifies her immediately as female.

Truth is no one complained about this pose (below) to my knowledge...

Spoiler

But I guess since this will be our character we tend to want the character to act as we would. I would prefer the new concept art had the female standing like Tali did in ME 1. But I am certain some will still find it is hyper-sexualization.

I like how every time this topic comes up, there's always that one person who implies that if a female character isn't overly sexualized they can't tell it's a woman.

Yes, got it. Had no issue with it. Just know that it is uncomfortable after a few minutes.

BS. One is clearly female, just look at the proportions and shape of the body. She could pose like an angry gorilla and still look female.

Yep.

Sometimes less is more.

I'd even go as far as saying that overly sexualizing a character from the start is a mistake because what are they supposed to do when they are actually trying to seduce someone? Or flirt or whatever? How do you notice the difference if that's their standard? :P

*shrug* If poses like that upset you guys, you'd flip your *tables* at JoJo.

Or, maybe not, since they're guys.

Sex appeal is perfectly fine, just as long as it's tasteful. Edi's ****** was indeed over the top, and a bit silly.

Well it is Mass Effect, so I assumed seduction was done by just looking at the person really creepily and saying "we'll bang, okay?".

Unless you're Garrus, in which case you get to use really cheesy lines.

How about appropriate sexualization? A knight-errant type character shouldn't be walking with a cleavage window and high heels.

I seriously had to look up Edi's cameltoe...the things people notice.  I now can't unsee that.

I had her change outfits so it wasn't visible anymore. Only worked on missions though, they all still wore their old outfits on board.

Then you must be seriously blind.

My sight is fine to see and understand the artist's intention.

lol! That's probably why I never saw it, I changed her into the black outift the moment I get the chance cause I liked it better than the other outfits.  Then on the ship she's usually sitting down. I'm actually glad I've gone so long without knowing that about her...ahem ...design.

It's funny that you praise the pose above and critisize the one on ME:A poster, when Tali assumes the typical staple pose of a bikini/fashion model during their presentations, which also is fairly uncomfortable for extended periods of time, but is used to exact the same effect as on ME:A poster(to accentuate the female model's curves).

I wouldn't say that Miranda as a character was over the top, the problem was mostly the camera angles they used:

A character can run around in their undies when they're off-duty, I don't much care. It's not like the series respected any sort of military regulations even when we were on an actual military ship anyway.

But in a combat situation, I want the outfits to at least make some basic amount of sense. No breath mask in space, no high heels, no lab coats please. Form-fitting armor like Miranda's DLC one in ME2 is fine.

Praised the alternate photo? Where? When?

Criticized the ME:A photo? Where? When?

It is obvious you just want to attack me on this issue, so let me say this. As a woman of color with really nice curves myself, I stand like that (Tali picture) everyday when in an idle stance and it does not hurt my back at all. So yes, give me the sexy. hand on hip stance! I am all for sexy, form-fitting, graceful, and feminine because that is me. And every post I have made on the issue of armor and body shape has reaffirmed that.  I do not owe you anymore explanation on the tumblr photo, take it up with the artist if it upsets you so much.  ;)

To me both pictures are fine, the ME:A pose is tad uncomfortable for me to assume in a prolonged stance as if being painted (as I stated above). Not for a quick photo of course! I do not consider it hyper-sexualization either (as stated above). So what is your quarrel now?

Anyways, I hope everyone gets what they want out of the characters. Good Luck!  :)
