Well a human being was brought back to life after falling to a planet from out of space so.....

.....how about that realism ha?

First of all, didn't you leave this thread?

Secondly, why do you believe we're okay with that nonsense? The Lazarus project was utter nonsense, had no basis in science or realism and was just a plot device to get Shepard to work with Cerberus.

Most of the trilogy is not realistic, but that doesn't mean -everything- in it can be freestyle fantasy. The least I expect is that it is internally consistent and at least obeys the rules it established itself... and it fails at that, too.

Characters wearing inappropriate outfits in combat is just the tip of the iceberg.

Why do you only bring up women?

Go read the OP's post.

Okay, men can be naked in combat too. Happy? :P

Well, whenever I do go back to the actual topic and write long posts explaning the issue... I get ignored. It seems the current topic is more interesting. :P

Its not about being happy, its about following what the OP intended for this thread to be about, a discussion about female AND male's unrealistic combat armor.

Somewhere between that initial post and now the notion of men in unrealistic armor (Thane/Jacob) was dropped and the thread took a turn for the worse by making this female portrayal thread when the OP did not intend for it to be that way.

Some of them were historically, actually.

Google 'Gaesatae'. Lets just say they went into battle swinging more than their swords.

Not the brightest idea though.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Steelcan, sort of.

Getting GOTY in 2014 is like bragging that you won the science fair contest because you were the only one who showed up.

Put DAI in 2015's lineup of games and see if it gets GOTY. Hell, it won't even get 2nd place in terms of WRPG GOTY with Witcher 3 and Fallout 4.

Some game had to win 2014's lackluster of a lineup gaming year where most anticipated AAA titles were DOA, might as well been DAI since at least it wasn't DOA and delivered something.

Well, and the fact that it was a good game, and it's not as if Mordor, Divinity, Alien, and Far Cry didn't exist in 2014.

Those guys were as dangerous as an armored foe, they took all kinds of herbs and went drugged to the battlefield. They felt no pain and went full berserk on the enemy.

It sounds fun for a game, actually  :D

I do not have any political agenda, to be honest many of the political issues discussed here are kind of USA-centric and don't really apply to the rest of the world. In fact, your politics and the media surrounding it are a clown show and are only taken seriously if they affect international relations.

Yeah, SJWs are international but you'll find less of them in countries that provide equal opportunities, have more social awareness and are simply more open and progressive. You know, the kind of country your politicians call "socialist" or "communist" in their rhetoric.

This is probably the best point here. It really puzzles me (as a British citizen) the views and behaviours around it.

Sometimes that Atlantic Ocean seems very, very wide.

However this brings quite big problem in the table.

With men it seems like who they want to be and what women considers attractive in them (according those traits) is same.

But with women it seems like who they want to be and what men considers attractive in them is different.

This is quite strech and doesn't apply to everyone of cource, but if this is what majority thinks it's problem.

You have a point but now it's kinda veers into 'thought police' territory because we can't control what others find attractive.  Is it wrong for men to view soft, curvy women as more sexually appealing than athletic looking women? Is a soft curvy looking woman less capable and incompetent than a strong looking man?  Does she have to be posed like a man to be taken seriously?

Does femininity automatically equals stupidity and weakness?

This is something that worries me a bit more, the fact that it seems like more and more women (mostly young girls?) view 'manly' traits as being superior to traits associated with being a woman.

If the male is posed to be strong and competent then the woman MUST be weak and incompetent for not having the same pose.

But overall, none of it makes me lose any sleep as people will think and feel however they like anyway.

-------------

I do agree that we're over thinking that poster.  But then again we have nothing else to really talk about concerning MEA. :(

You brought this up earlier, and many of us told you we don't like it either.

This thread isn't about all things unrealistic in Mass Effect. So, to use your own words:

Go read the OP's post.

If you want to make a thread to talk about unrealistic things you don't want to see, by all means, make it.

Which is why I said...

You would prefer them to use the ugliest woman they can find?

I was wondering how long it would take before someone brought in rape culture... Took much longer that I had predicted.

OMG, how did you know? That's the point I was totally making! Only ugly women should be used in media! I couldn't possibly be arguing against a woman's looks and sexuality being depicted as the only things that make her valuable! I mean who wants smart, kind, fun, sporty, whatever women in media. More boobies or no sell!

I was wondering how long it would take before someone brought in rape culture... Took much longer that I had predicted.

Yeah, just dismiss the link between how women are depicted and rape culture. No way, any of this is linked. Nice try.

My country probably has the worst of it. Mix the Hispanic, conservative and religious culture of my country with the liberal media and culture of the USA and its politics and you got the perfect s***storm brewing...

Yeah, I'm not really interested in talking about the men. I'll talk about the women and how it affects us. You can blather on about the plight of men all you want. Just remember though, men aren't being affected by sexism in the same was as women are. In fact, you guys have plenty of good strong depictions in video games to choose from. For women, good depictions are harder to come by.

Maia, the person you're responding to has proven to be either a troll, or just someone with very poor reading comprehension. The fact that he recently switched to gifs to convey his thoughts is telling, as they're quite a bit more eloquent. Whichever is true, it's probably smarter to ignore.

Anywho, this was a pretty fun thread for awhile.

So you just want to bluntly ignore the true purpose of this thread to push through your own ideals?

I can understand if you created your OWN thread that SPECIALLY talks about such issues but you didn't. Instead, you took someone else  concept and hijacked it to make it your own purpose.

Well you did say that strong and competent aren't favored traits to women have by men and that would imply that women are seen more attractive when they are weak and not competent which is pretty.. problematic. When it comes to being soldier soft and curvy woman does appear less capable than strong looking man.. strenght is needed traits when soft and curvy aren't related to job on hand. I personally think that pose of male character in the poster does make him see more capable, he looks ready to shoot first enemy he sees, female characterin other hand doesn't look like she's ready to fight, she looks ready to dance. The pose on female character overall is very unnatural to stand in when I see male characters pose as sth that would be way more natural for both sexes to have.
