@Von Uber

I'm also mortified if I came off as trying to tell you how parent your child. I was thinking about broad gender stereotypes and how they affect young people, not your specific situation. I apologize.

I want to know how a thread about sexualized combat armour went to a discussion about what types of toys you should buy for your children...

^This.  I had a lot of different toys, I didn't care what color anything was just as long as it was fun.  When I was in my teens I started to hate pink, now pink is one of my favorite colors next to black.

In my mind, you're a big fan of pink and black together, and it's because you're a huge Owen Hart fan.

Yes, I DID just headcannon another member of the BSN. Don't judge me.

It's been a long, lonely road. Probably best not to look back and just stay on the ride.

We should but combat armor for our children. We'll never have to worry about them getting hurt. :P

My weak point as a child was plastic soldiers, LEGOs or Star Wars action figures. I had a big table in a room full of all my LEGOS, plastic soldiers and action figures. I could easily spend an entire day playing with them and creating huge battlefields, warzones, castle sieges, etc. Ah, sometimes I miss my childhood :(

I remeber my cousin owning an entire battalion of weird (beautiful) war dinosaurs, with complete weapons, soldiers, and armature. I was in love with those toys. I always created armies of animals to fight against/with them (I loved the mammals against reptiles at the time), using the LEGO's to create walls and castles...ah, good times!  :lol:

I'm honestly curious. In your opinion, what is the reason for this?

Because of market research. You think companies give a damn about "social constructs"? They're there to make money and so when they design a product or a toy and have to market it they'll make damn sure they'll do their research so their toys will sell well. Clearly blue stuff sells well for baby boys and pink stuff sells well for baby girls.

Research also indicates that young boys tend to prefer masculine toys and young girld tend to prefer feminine toys, Why? I don't know. Might be "social construct", or it might be something completely different. There is not enough scientific data to give a concrete answer to that question. I personally doubt it has anything to do with "social construct", because I remember so vividly that I was a very stubborn kid who wanted very specific things, which didn't always align with the latest trends at that time. I couldn't care less what was on TV. I usually wanted whatever my friends had. Because I was friends with both boys and girls, I wanted to have both boy and girl toys (but mostly boy toys though).

Sexuality became gender roles became how gender politics can come into play at a young age.

Would you rather go back to a few pages ago?

This thread will probably keep cycling through stages of chaos and calm. I don't know if I've ever seen a thread about hot button issues like sexuality remain stable for long.

Anyways, when I have a kid, they can get whatever toys they want and I'll make sure they have the opportunity to see all the options and not just whats in the specified gender section.

Forcing them to get what you want isnt the way to do it though

Bret is the obvious choice. Also, my son is (semi) named after Owen Hart, so...

Either your thread gets locked, or it lives long enough to become a thread about steak.
