When I first played ME2, I thought Miranda and Jacob were wearing long underwear. I had no idea it was armor until I got to Freedom's Progrees. I thought they would be killed instantly. I was half right. Miranda surprised me by not dying and Jacob kept dropping all the time. Whatever. I eventually got the armor pack and gave the black armor with visor to MIranda. Better

A long comes Jack. Yeah. Whatever. The only thing I like were her tattoos. Her straps didn't impress me. What the crap is wearing that garbage going to do in combat?

Here comes Samara. Hahaha. Is that suppose to be sexy. Maybe for some, but not for me. Have her armor covering her chest completely would be better.

Only Grunt, Garrus, Shepard and Tali wear a helmet while everyone else wears something to cover their nose and mouth. Even Liara wore a face mask in the broker dlc. I wonder how they feel if I sprayed some paint in their eye's. Do you think they would switch to wearing a helmet?

In ME1, the squadmates wore helmets and armor that covered their whole body. So what changed in ME2?

When I'm on a mission I don't waste my time looking at the other squadmates since I'm most likely avoiding being shot. If the character wants to wear stuff like that, do it in between missions.

The funniest thing I saw was Javik on the dreadnought mission without a face mask. Did Bioware not have time to create one for him?

I like the N7 armor and the other armor sets that can be purchased for Shepard to use. Too bad there wasn't an option to assign any of those armor sets to the squadmates.

I think I spotted one woman in the artist section and one in the cinematics. No female writers either.

ME2 had at least one female writer, if you include the DLC. Sylvia Feketekuty was one of the writers involved with Lair of the Shadow Broker. She also wrote in Liara and Glyph in ME3, all of the war asset descriptions, the Thessus monastery mission, and a couple of the Rannoch missions.

It is also worth noting that Sylvia also wrote Josephine and her romance arc as well as several quests in Inquisition. Her work in both series is pretty good.

I always thought they made the wearer look less attractive. Not even Kelly could pull it off.

You take that back. Kelly can pull anything off.

I understand, but like I said, it is all subjective. What is an 8 on my "scale" would be a 4 on another's. What is a 3 on my scale might be an 9 on yours etc.

This is the difficult part when it comes to this issue of sexualization. Some feminist would look at a character like Bayonetta and celebrate that a strong and dominate woman can still be very sexy and some other feminist would look at the same character and feel disgusted.

Take Madonna as an example to many she is a feminist icon.

Not saying that she is or isnt because that isn't up to me to decide that, I am just saying that many Gen X women grew up viewing her as a feminist icon and yet Madanna has had a history of sexualizing herself in music videos, photos, and concerts.

Bayonetta is difficult, I grant you, and you have to make decisions about sexualization and it's appropriateness in context.  I wouldn't have the same set of expectations of say a noir movie as Mass Effect.  I don't have the same expectations of Madonna as I do Anne Murray.

Ultimately, I'm left with questions like "what kind of a game is Mass Effect trying to be?" and for that devs themselves give answers like "the pillars the franchise is known for..., including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling."  Sexualization does not seem a vital component of any of those aspirations.  In fact, as many in this thread have stated, it's actually served as a distraction.

This is quite different from the aforementioned noir example which wikipedia defines as "stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations."   Here sex appeal is expected to be a foundational aspect of the whole undertaking.

I like her a lot and she was fun in ME2... but no. Those outfits are not flattering at all.

^ All I know is that Bioware has expressed interest in appealing to women and other non-traditional gamers; hence, I gave my opinion on what I think would appeal to women and other non-traditional gamers....

Except for that particular outfit. Seriously, why couldn't she just get some normal lingerie or something?

I'd rather not have everyone walk around in astronaut suits.... like it's hard sci-fi or something. That ship has sailed. I liked the comic-booky direction it went. Artists got more creative, characters became more distinctive and iconic. It sets it apart from something like Halo.

I think having characters having both distinctive looks and wearing armours. I don't think armours have to be heavy either.

But women wear thongs and nice underwear, tight trousers, crop tops and the like.... Is this not appealing in the game, even though it is in life?

I smell the stench of hypocrisy!

Haha, non traditional gamers, hehehehehe ... You mean the ones that won't play it.

If it can be pulled off, sure. I just like to see artists have the freedom to be distinctive.

Usually though when someone calls for this, it seems like someone is obsessed with realism and wants an reenactment of the Right Stuff.

Because BioWare had the assets *chuckles* lying around.

Or maybe they'd just like the game to be internally consistent.
