Interesting. Anyone tried to throw the Phoenix armor on Ashley to see how it looks on her throughout ME3?
As far as I've been able to find, you cannot, and I haven't seen any mods for it. So far, I've only gotten it to work on only femShep. Sheploo doesn't have access to it. Heh, don't I wish I could mod that. I would do so even quicker than I modded Allers. ![]()

Oh I figured. I'll admit, part of the reason for those pics was to show off a couple of Shepards of mine.
With Dragon Age, however.. it's a little different. I don't think the protagonist should wear anything... Like running around in something like Isabela's getup. Or wearing Varric's chesthair coat. That's just tacky. Those looks define those characters.

I use mods (with pants) that give Hawke a bustier look. I mainly use it for my rogue characters. Using it for any other class feels...wrong I guess. The Song of the Rose mod is my favorite.

It looks like a similar version she had in ME2 (dark red stripe).
She'd probably look pretty cool in it. I like her in that red N7 edition gear too (it's just a variation of her default blue suit... but I think red suits her).

Variety is good. I just don't want everyone walking around in astronaut suits. Because it's "realistic".
I like the cross between sci-fi and comic book design in ME2 and 3. And I think it frees the artists to be more creative too.
I'm just here to have fun.. not here to play a goddamn simulator.
The thing with that is you're talking about realism like it's a hard limit on what can be done, rather than a direction to follow.
In the real world people still express themselves when given a chance with their entirely realistic, utilitarian possessions. Okay, I haven't seen any fabulous astronaut suits, but look at how war planes have been always treated as a canvas for cool art, or the figure heads for ships.
The marines in Aliens have fairly drab, bulky armor but everyone of them is different because they've all personalized it with graffiti and stickers. Personally I'd say they have far more interesting characterization than anyone in Mass Effect, because it fits the limitations of their world rather than ignores them.
Not that I mind them going with something pulpy and unrealistic if they want to.

Those colonial marines were pretty bare, from what I recall. Most didn't even sleeves. It was like stripped down football armor almost.

It's probably not the best example, but the point I was trying to make is that it still looks like utilitarian gear handed out in bulk to a group of soldiers rather than their personal costumes. The personal touches were added by them later.

Here's a great example of what you are going for.

Each armor was standard ODST armor, but each member had customized it to fit them, both in their role in the team and their personality.

*not counting Phantom Jack
**because I've never seen her in any of my playthroughs since I don't have the heart to play in a way that would result in Phantom Jack being a thing
Eh, I'm Italian and played on 360. I was screwed in this.
I like Ash's wardrobe change. I don't think it's too sexualized either.
She looks like a space cop now. Which she is. It kind of fits a Spectre look (although it's just an Alliance uniform, I guess).
For Ash, My problem is that she doesn't seem the type to go in combat without armour. It's OOC in my opinion.
The problem is that fun is subjective. People find enjoyment in different things, and their fun might be compromised when there Are features they dislike. Ad your fun can be compromised by every characters in astronauts suits, other people might have their enjoyment compromised by characters wearing outfits Not suited for combat.Variety is good. Fair enough.
I'm not against some nods to utilitarian appearances really. Some things could be improved to look at least more functional. Even that has to give way sooner or later though. Some people won't let up. There's a specific type of person I have in mind here. I don't think they have any appreciation of art direction or style. Their minds are completely on the engineering/technical end. They're just dorks who want bulky space suits everywhere. Fuckem. I don't like anything that comes from this mentality. They bore me to death.

I'm hoping for a variety of options for armor for ME:A as well. I liked the ones in Inquisition, but I've been participating in threads that ask for more options for future DA games as well. So I'm not trying to say that's the only look that ME:A could go with, but I did feel it was well done.

Hopefully. It sounds like Bioware is really looking into deep customization of the character's armor, both the overarmor and even the underarmor which they are also thinking about that being one of the casual attire options. So customizable casual attire may be in ME:A. So all in all hopefully there will be lots of variants of several different styles, both on and off the battlefield.

They haven't. But it's a sentiment I'm going to shoot down anyways. It comes up from time to time.
It annoys me just thinking about it, so I'll end it there. ![]()
I'm firmly in the "pulpy" camp though. This is still the best artwork I've seen for ME.

Sure, I don't think the pursuit of realism makes much sense for its own sake and at the end of the day it is fictional art. At the same time I think there's loads of stuff you can draw on from the real world, and that right now our made up stuff is kind of dull and samey because it has started copying itself rather than the much broader source inspiration.
To put it another way, I don't think Mass Effect needs bulky space suits, but if it had decided to go with that look I think a talented artist could have made them look boss. However that still requires a sense of art direction and style, which I think is what you're getting at.

About bulky armours, I'd like if the ME team try more different type of armours, expecially for the MC. To this day My favorite piace of light armour in the trilogy is Thane's dlc outfit.
I agree, I'd like for them to go back to making light, medium, and heavy armors again

Yeah, there are some franchises that were able to have armors both be armor but also have aesthetic flair to it, so hopefully Bioware captures that in MEA.

I like how ME1 had different tiers of armor. ME2 and ME3 did too to an extent with some of the DLC armors. Hopefully that comes back with these new armors.

I don't mind the tiers. I just thought the ME1 stuff looked bad. I'd have to see new designs to like it again. The light armor looked goofy on male Shep.. looked alright on Liara, so I guess it's probably good on FemShep too. And I think they improved on the heavy look in 2 (and especially 3). You can see the difference talking to Conrad in Illium. It's stupid looking. -- Then again, it's Conrad who's wearing it.

As I said before, Bioware got better in designing good-looking armours through the trilogy. I just wish they'd focus on more variety in the vanilla games. I like heavy armours, but I don't was the every MC I make to wear them. Expecially because for certain classes I think lighter armours would fit them better.
