Euhm? ME2/3 make as much sense as the average Marvel comic book. I'd say the comicbook fanservice spandex is very much in place in those two games.

I agree with you on the first part. Mass Effect is all about looking cool but can't really explain itself when you ask questions.

The second part? I don't see the connection between nonsense and fanservice.

Well the connection is obvious if you have ever read Marvel, DC or Image comics.

An interesting argument people have brought up is that this is a minor issue where resources should be spent on other, more important things.

But if you think about it:

- they found time to give jack nipples but not tali a rock
- they found time to give edi her robotoe but not Ashley a working marksman skill
- they found time to give genitals to banshees but not femshep a face scan from a person

And so on.

Oh, I know that the situations that force females into those positions and outfits are usually nonsense... but I don't see how such fanservice turns the entire setting into nonsense.

Because comic books are otherwise so realistic?

You do realize ALL superheroes wear spandex right? Male ones too?

Google The Hawkeye Initiative. That's what I'm talking about.

Have you seen the DC showcase short film about Catwoman from 2011? It is set in a strip club because a tight leather suit alone isn't sexy enough anymore. ;)

Comic books go out of their way to force female characters into compromising situations. I'm not even talking about Wonder Woman ending up in some kind of bondage all the time (although that is a thing of the past now) but stuff like them taking showers or baths on screen far more often or ending up in revealing poses during combat.

Saren was wearing something from the Geth Armory winter collection which was so blatantly obvious that a simple photo of him should have been enough to convict him.

By the goddess! tehehehehe

The guy is half machine from the very beginning, he looks more like Geth than Turian. Note the blue tubes inside his chest. Just like Legion later.

Even more offtopic: Did anyone notice that in ME1 Tali's right arm is ... well... Geth?

Evidence2.png

Geth Infiltrator! Cyborg! No wonder she was so good with machines... :P

Yeah, being PS3 I didn't get to play ME1 until after ME3 had already come out. The first argument with him and the Council seemed like pure absurdity. He's basically a turian head photoshopped onto a damn geth chassis you morons.

As for Tali's arm, yeah, the quarians are described in numerous places as essentially being cyborgs, but this gets downplayed more as the series goes on and isn't mentioned at all in 3 outside the codex. My guess is they didn't want Talimancers to take off the mask and be faced with this.

I actually liked the evolution of Tali's design over the trilogy, it seemed to be the most consistent of the lot. I really liked her alternate appearance in ME3, probably the most realistic Quarian outfit for someone entering combat. Actually feels like it could protect her, whilst remaining distinctly Tali.

That's probably my favorite squadmate armor in ME3. It's not sexy or stupid and makes a lot of sense. I always found it awkward for Quarians to go to war without any kind of armor at all.

But you know what is the best thing about Tali's armor in ME2 and ME3? Once I noticed it, it could not be unseen.

Spoiler

I agree. She's one of the few female characters that didn't get saddled with a new pair of giant knockers or a catsuit as the series went on. All her designs are good, especially the armored ones in ME2 and 3. I just liked that aspect (the ME1 arm) and wanted the cybernetics angle on the quarians to be played up a bit more as a theme than it eventually was.

I wish they would have played up the cybernetic aspect more.

That said I sort of disagrees, because like all female quarians she was already fully sexualized I guess. As pointed out in ME2, her suit is very,,, snug.

You ignore the fact that she was given very exaggerated female porportions such as her hip to waist ratio and volumptious butt. Speaking her her butt, she got a very visual and enhanced "butt crack" line that really added visual appeal to her butt. Her look was VERY sexual.

I am not complaining but still, to say that she was "grounded" in her look is a bit naive.

To be fair that is the idea with quarians, male and female. The males have extremely exaggerated MALE human proportions, a "heroic build" like cartoon batman.

Oh yes.

If I remember the discussion about ME2, the main reason Bioware didn't make Tali romanceable in ME1 was that they didn't think the players would go with A girl with "chicken legs".

Guess they were wrong, huh.

When did I say that? She obviously has an idealized female build, (other than legs and digits) along with a form fitting armor design and has since the first game. All quarians, including the males with their broad shoulders and implausible waist to chest ratios are similar in that regard. I was simply stating she wasn't changed as radically in that regard over the course of the 3 games. The change in voice intonation from 1 to 2 was the most obvious one.

Well, the only character Who changed radically is Ashley.

Also Diana Allers. Fully face-mapped and all of that, even though badly...meanwhile Tali got a barely 'shopped stock photo for a reveal.

Depends on one's definition of radically. Ashley's just the most obvious because the ME3 version doesn't even resemble the original. Femshep got a boobjob. Jack looks like she did as well, along with lovingly rendered nipples. Liara got two boobjobs, one for each subsequent game, as well as a voice intonation difference like Tali, and she and seemingly developed multiple personalities and professions to appear more "badass" femme fatale and less nerd. Then you have EDI, whom I needn't even describe. All of this was completely unnecessary.

Miranda and Samara weren't changed much, but they were always designed that way and I guess they were "sexy" and well endowed enough to begin with? Kasumi's design was completely unchanged, but she seems to have been treated like an afterthought by the writers anyway. Did I miss anyone?

Miranda stood still between ME2 and ME3, she didn't develop as a character at all (nor her outfit). She had a bit more in Citadel, but that was only really for romance purposes.

If we are talking about character development and not character "development", than yeah, Miranda actually regressed. She isn't the only one, though.

Please remove the stick, y'all. It doesn't hurt to have a catsuit every once in awhile.

This is BioWare, not Brazzers. Of course, ever since ME2 released the difference between them has been diminishing every year...
