Console gamers are the reason for this kind of behavior. No ones likes hearing that, but it's true. These companies know they can continue to milk console gamers dry, and they may complain a little, similar to how they say they aren't going to buy the next Call of Duty, and yet they are the first ones in line at their local GameStop on launch day.

There is no PC version of Destiny. Why do you think that is

Of course, blame all console gamers. And I bet that they didn't make a PC version so they wouldn't have to put up with all your elitism. :)

That is absolutely false and a terrible attitude to have.

How is it false?

I'm not waving the PC Master Race flag around here. What I'm saying is that console gamers are complacent and lazy and are too ready and willing to pay for virtually everything in their gaming experience. Publishers take advantage of this.

I had to look at your wordpress Riven. lol.

You look like a friendly guy... and not as elitist as I thought. It's not coming across in posts though. :D

Well, I apologize if I'm being a bit bull headed here but I really do hate seeing these companies takd advantage of people. They do it because they can and they only can because the console fan base lets them get away with it by continuing to support it.

Thats not exclusive to people who happen to play video games on consoles. Or are we going to ignore people who happen to play video games on PCs that waste their money on sales getting cheap PC games they'll never play? Its just as silly.

It is not exclusive to consoles or PCs or any particular platform. Gamer nonsensicality is down to the gamer themselves, each individual.

I think they're taking advantage too. I hope not many on the consoles take the bait. I'll just say that.

Have you ever played a Pay2Win PC title? They are criminally worse than even this blatant money grab by Bungie.

It's not a console-specific issue. PC gamers are just as dumb with their money.

Nah, I'm sure there will be plenty that buy it, but I'm also positive just as many will say no.

People who pay $60 for an expansion pack to a bare bones game are the same people who are willing to pay to play online. The fact that you're comparng that type of person, who is a console gamer, to someone who purchases games during a Steam sale, whether they play the games or not, is ludicrious.

I wouldn't compare this to steam sales. I think the dumbest PC market are MMO players.

But then, a lot of MMOs are free these days.. so maybe that's changing too.

It isn't ludicrous at all;who spends money on games they just leave to rot on a hard drive somewhere, or in a cloud, or whatever storage exists for titles?

Thats like going to a bakery, buying a dozen donuts, and immediately throwing them in the trash because they were never going to be eaten anyway. Might as well burn money. As ridiculous as someone is for buying The Taken King at the same price the base game was in, at least they can be assumed to play it.

My point is gamers around the world no matter their gaming platform of choice do absolutely dumb things. To claim that any one platform is more guilty than another? That is whats ludicrous.

Obviously this kind of thing would never happen on PC.

I mean, there certainly isn't a MMO that completely blew open the market on the entire genre and still has over 7 million players all paying for a monthly subscription fee and expansions every 2 years.

The PC gamers who are willing to waste money on Pay2Win titles are not the same people who are going to buy and play Destiny.

And the console gamers who make smart purchases with used games are not the same people who are going to buy and play Destiny, either. So console gamers can be frugal, while PC gamers can be morons...?

The sky is falling!!!

Yes, which proves that PC gamers vote with their wallets the and market adjusts accordingly.

Again, you make another ridiculous comparison. No one is throwing anything away by buying cheap games during a sale. Those games still exist in a digital library waiting to be played at any time. The donuts you buy at the store and then throw in the trash when you get home are obviously gone for good.

Obviously this kind of thing would never happen on PC.

Yeah, let's go ahead and bring up WoW and ignore the fact that the user base has been getting smaller with each passing year and that it is the only still very successful MMO on the market that continues to use that pricing model while everything else is going F2P.

And the console gamers who make smart purchases with used games are not the same people who are going to buy and play Destiny, either. So console gamers can be frugal, while PC gamers can be morons...?

Both can be stupid with their money, but I would argue that console gamers are more likely to fall into the money pitt with amount of crap they have to pay for just to game on console.

Lmao, people are stupid regardless of what system they use. The idea that PC gamers are somehow above it all is hilarious.

It just depends on who has disposable income.

Kids with generous parents and people more than likely unmarried or without a mortgage. And then out of those with disposable income, only the stupid ones.

I don't know why it has to correlate to a specific hardware platform.

Fine then, moldy donuts in some dark shadowy corner of a room in someone's home. Either way, they won't be consumed. Point stands. Some gamers don't make smart decisions, and that is not exclusive to any platform.

They're exactly the same, the dumb arses who will swallow whatever tripe a publisher pushes out the door. Console, PC whatever, these are the people who will buy into anything and pay whatever is asked of them, then scrabble around for justification to assure themselves they're not getting ripped off.

It's not about the hardware itself per say. It's about the type of people who play games on that hardware. They bought a console because they wanted a convenient gaming experience. Consoles give you that and I have nothing against consoles. It's the companies behind them and the console gamers who act as enablers that I take issue with. If less console gamers would be willing to pay $15-$20 for a map pack or $60 for an expansion, maybe that sort of thing would stop entirely or maybe the prices would drop to an appropriate level. They don't because in the end console gamers will begrudgingly pay whatever price these companies set for downloadable goods.

I would never dispute the idea that there are stupid gamers on both sides. What I'm saying is I don't think the scales are even.

Expansions barely even come out anywhere.. let alone on console games. This is a DLC world now. Not an expansion world. So I wouldn't say this is some trend. Destiny is testing new waters.

As for map packs, I wouldn't know. I don't play many games with them. A lot of stuff like that is free though (Gears of War, Mass Effect, etc). The stuff I see with those prices are like mission packs (like the New Vegas DLC). A little pricier with Bioware story DLC.

...? What, like a PC monitor, a PC rig that costs twice the price of your average console that needs updating in half the time and a console controller which is quickly becoming a necessity with the number of games that are barely hidden PC ports from console?

What do console players have to buy? A console that's as cheap as the lowest end (and quickly obsolete) gaming PC? Maybe an extra controller? I'm confused at where PC players are saving boatloads of cash and console players are gladly forking it over.

Yeah, let's go ahead and bring up WoW and ignore the fact that the user base has been getting smaller with each passing year and that it is the only still very successful MMO on the market that continues to use that pricing model while everything else is going F2P.

Let's also ignore the fact that even with a shrinking user base they're still bigger than other MMOs and that it still shows just how easy a large portion of the PC gaming community is with their money.

F2P model also shows just how bad some PC gamers can be. Arguably it's even worse than what people are paying to play WoW. Riot has one of the most successful games on PC and they don't even charge you to play the game or unlock anything that has any relevance on how good you do in-game.

Console gamers might be willing to throw out cash for map packs, but PC gamers are willing to throw out even more cash on skins in League of Legends.
