I think the closest comparison to this is D3's Reaper of Souls. I don't believe you can buy it seperately on console. They just reissued a new "Ultimate Evil" edition with the full game + expansion.
Otherwise, hardly anyone makes expansions.
I bought this myself, but I had never played it before.. and it was the only edition on XOne.
*shrug* At the end of the day, I'll probably end up buying the damn thing. Oh well.
If you do, you'll be sending the message that this kind of thing works and is perfectly okay to do again and again. Vote with your wallet.

Shush, only oui oui
...? What, like a PC monitor, a PC rig that costs twice the price of your average console that needs updating in half the time and a console adapter which is quickly becoming a necessity with the number of games that are barely hidden PC ports from console?
What do console players have to buy? A console that's as cheap as the lowest end (and quickly obsolete) gaming PC? Maybe an extra controller? I'm confused at where PC players are saving boatloads of cash and console players are gladly forking it over.
Yeah, you pay more for the hardware on PC, but you don't have to pay to play online and the games are usually cheaper and go on sale more often. Console gamers have to pay for the hardware, pay top dollar for games that rarely ever go on sale, pay for overpriced proprietary hardware like controllers and larger hard drives, and have to put up with ridiculous prices on DLC.

This is the mindset that many console gamers have and these companies count on it.

How is the DLC more ridiculous? What am I missing? It looks the same to me.
PSN users don't have to pay to be online. But the service sucks compared to Xbox (in my experience). And I got a lot of free full games through XBL Gold last year. So I'm cool with it. Some of them are good games.

I am voting with my wallet. I am not passing up those exotic class items, period.
What fantasy world do you live in? Have you ignored the last 25 years of PC gaming? All these marketing ploys originated with the PC. Meanwhile, PC gaming is experiencing a surge of games like Mechwarrior online, Star Citizen, SoS and LoL and others which are all pay to win or pay content costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars. It's not about the hardware itself per say. It's about the type of people who play games on that hardware. They bought a console because they wanted a convenient gaming experience. Consoles give you that and I have nothing against consoles. It's the companies behind them and the console gamers who act as enablers that I take issue with. If less console gamers would be willing to pay $15-$20 for a map pack or $60 for an expansion, maybe that sort of thing would stop entirely or maybe the prices would drop to an appropriate level. They don't because in the end console gamers will begrudgingly pay whatever price these companies set for downloadable goods.
I would never dispute the idea that there are stupid gamers on both sides. What I'm saying is I don't think the scales are even.

Again with the condescension...

He has a narrative he has to stick to.
All I can do is show my face and say "Hey, look. I'm a 30-something console gamer who doesn't light my money on fire." And I'm not alone.
If he wants to stick to the narrative, fine. Sometimes it can't be broken.

Once upon a time, I was excited by Destiny and the lore of its world...
Before I realized the lore was just a background for a shallow story that fails utterly to do anything interesting with it. Bye Bungie.
...
...cookies? What kind of cookies?
<Real talk, now I'm going downstairs to our work cafeteria to get some cookies. Curse you.>
Chocolate chip with peanut butter lol. Likes Reeses in cookie form. ![]()

Same here. It's general look and lore still seems attractive to me too. Once I got in the Beta though, it became apparent what it was..
Okay. So here is what's going to happen.
People are going to buy and play the DLC.
In order to play with their friends who have the DLC, more people are going to buy it so they don't feel left out.
Then Bungie will bank off of it.

And those with more sense will shake their heads and move on. As is the general course.

Sounds like a plan actually.
Instead of attracting gamers in general now, they're going to bank on a core group of suckers.. and exploit their in-game friendships.

The Beta was fun because it was new and I was under the impression the full game would have like 5-6 Earth areas equal to Old Russia, Luna probably the one, Venus maybe 3-4, same with Mars, and a lore heavy narrative much like what was initially advertised. Bungie's Mass Effect basically.
Turns out the Beta WAS Earth's involvement in the game. The Tower was tiny as hell. Each planet only had one landable area and you were expected to farm it over and over and over again for loot you'd use to...continue farming, lore was not even in the game, and narrative was nonexistent.
Eww. Thankfully I got it for free because a friend bought it for me(I had financial troubles and all and at the moment do again). I felt bad for him though he seemed to enjoy the game.
