I never understood this "pay to play online" argument as if that's not inherent to everyone. Like PC gamers don't have to pay for their internet.
Except that PC gamers only pay for their internet, console gamers pay for their internet AND the privilige to use said internet for online features on the consoles (which they likewise already bought).
It's like paying for the gas you fill in your car and then paying extra so you can go and use the gas you already paid for.
Bloody hell, how in the world do they justify those prices? Especially a game like Star Citizen which was largely funded by the goodwill of the gaming community only for them to turn around and charge them an arm and a leg for ships? This isn't even nickel and diming, this is asking for your userbase to hand over all their gold and platinum.
Hold your horses.
A 55 bucks pledge gets you instant access to a starter ship, the game, beta access for the game, ingame currency and other little tidbits. You can get all those ships ingame save for a very limited number of unique ships (two I believe) that were only available for early Kickstarter backers and a handful of special versions of ships whose other variants you have access to ingame otherwise.
