How many companions in you want this time around?

ME:1 6 permanent (  ) Companions

ME:2 12 permanent companions (2 of which were DLC)

ME:3 7 permanent companions (1 of which was DLC)

All of the Mass effect games had two companions with you in combat by default.

Companions have always been one of the defining elements in Bioware's games. How many would you like this time around? How many would you like available after launch? How many would you like to take with you into combat?

Thoughts/Comments?

I think ME3 hit the sweet spot in terms of team size.

6 seems like a good number, 8 at most.

Mass Effect 2 overdid it with 12 as a lot of abilities overlapped and many squad mates had little in terms of additional dialogue once there personal missions was done.  I'm sure people had at least 2 or 3 members that were permanent Normandy fixtures.

ME1 had 5 permanent squadmates. Garrus or Wrex didn't have to be recruited

ME2 had 5 permanent squadmates. Miranda, Jacob, Jack, Garrus and Mordin. The rest were optional. Of course 8 is needed to use the Omega 4 relay

ME3 had 3 permanent squadmates. Tsoni, edi and Vega. The rest can be dead or not recruited

No more than 6 would be fine with me though.

They had 12 as they were going for a dirty dozen suicide mission feel to it.

Seven seems right. Two or three humans, the rest aliens and maybe an AI avatar.

My preference is six.

1. Solarian

2. Krogan

3. Andromeda Alien1

4. Andromeda Alien2

5. Andromeda Alien 3

6. ME3 Alien 1

I'd also prefer a squad of 3+main char. However, the internal maps (outpost) must be large enough to handle quite a few combatants in the battle. Plus, Bio recently showed that their AI programming team was not up to the challenge. So, I expect a squad of 2 per mission.

No more than six, MAYBE seven, with only two or three major ship crew (like Joker, Traynor, Kelly, or Cortez). I honestly just don't really have confidence that every character will have their time in the spotlight spread out evenly with more than that - DAO, ME2, and Inquisition all had nine or more companion characters, and all of them included someone who were capable of being absent from the whole game and nothing is lost. I mean ME2's dirty dozen was REALLY bad about this. Literally half of the characters could be absent (not recruiting Thane, Samara, or Tali, not activating Legion, and not getting Zaeed and Kasumi) with little in the way of effect on the game.

So yeah, I'd sooner have a handful of companions well-woven into the story who all get a chance to shine than nine or ten or more characters who might be interesting but play little to no role in the plot.

Don't forget you can leave the Krogan in the tank

Yeah. It was cool of them to give us that many people, but it was slightly overkill. Eight is fine.
