So has anyone tried out this free MMO? It looks pretty legit almost like a Final Fantasy type of game.

Tera Online? That's been out for awhile.
In general, I always tell people to be wary of MMORPGs as the gameplay is always so mind-numbingly boring and simple1. But I've heard a few good things about Tera; that the gameplay was more action-based, that the community was pretty good, Roleplay wasn't hard to find for those who go for that sort of thing.
. . .but I know little else about the game so I can't really say anything besides 'look up information'.

From what I played years ago, it's fairly unique in that it rewards reflex much more than other MMORPGs. Being able to dodge on the right moments and hitting the right combos at the right moment can spell victory for you in PvP (and some PvE bosses). Even if you are a bit slow, you can pick a more passive class and just win with sheer stats.
Though I didn't think the game was terribly amazing. It was decent, but being decent isn't worth it for a game that you'll be sinking hundreds of hours into.
