I'm gonna go with a 7

To  be honest, I was content with letting the Mass Effect series finish were it did with the trilogy.  For all its missteps, I enjoyed it and was ready to see what else the team could produce.

Since MEA is a new story, I'm treating it as a new IP: cautiously optimistic but it'll need to impress me.

About 7/10 or so. I would have been okay with just completely ending the IP with the trilogy.

I'd like to see/hear a little more and just be reassured that this isn't "Mass Effect: Inquisition". Not saying DAI is a bad game (I enjoyed it enough to play it twice), but just some of the things in that game.... the Chore Table, and the MMO-ish questing are probably my two biggest concerns.

And deep down, I know I will always refer to the new set of characters as "the second-string".

I'd say in excitement I would be a ten.

My expectations are 1

I haven't forgotten the past few years Bioware, ESPECIALLY with ME3 and the ME books.

I'm not the biggest ME fan to begin with, and the one feature that made ME work for me (pause-to-aim) I worry will get lost in the move to the new engine.

However, my biggest problem with ME and ME2 was due to the terrible voice+paraphrase system, but DAI has shown that BioWare can actually do that well, so I'm optimistic on that front

I will start with 10/10 and go from there

At the beginning, I hear Johnny Cash. I like the guy, but not the music. My first thought is the Lone Ranger will make an appearance. I wonder how much EA had to pay to use that song in the trailer. -1

The character scrolls through a few slides of different planets. I would've liked the burning planet. -1

Off we go into the wild blue yonder through what looks to be a wormhole. Looks ok. +1

Why is the N7 logo on the left side of the chest instead of the right side as seen when Shepard wears the armor? -1

Why a pistol? What's wrong with an assault weapon? -1

The new mako makes an appearance. Why not play the song Highway to Hell from AC/DC? But that's alright. The mako looked really nice. Had that mako been in ME1, exploring planets would've been fun. Hmmm. How about reboot the trilogy just for the new mako? Hahaha. +5

The jetpack. Nice. +1

When I saw the characters running while the whatever grows out of the ground, it reminded me of the beam run. That's not good. The what-the-crap evac scene, Harbinger not firing at the Normandy and Shepard survivng been shot by Harbinger. -10

The character jumping in the air getting ready to use the omnitool on the enemy. Not bad. +1

Its called Mass Effect Andromeda. Yeah. Sure. I've accepted that it will be in another galaxy, but would rather stay in the Milky Way. -1

It will be released holidays of 2016. That gives time for them to add, remove and polish the game. +1

final  4/10 Depending on what is revealed between now and release, that number could go up.

I do plan on preordering the game when it becomes available. I like for the game to sell well and I'm sure I will do many playthroughs, but my focus will be on the game, whatever it will be, after this one.

10 of course, but considering the state of the last 3 Bioware games my expectations are 6/10

5/10.  (up from 2/10 when I heard they left the Milky Way behind in both distance and timeline - good move)

Nothing excites me more than a Mass Effect release. I must admit though, what would have been a solid 9 or 10  for anticipation has currently been tempered down to a 7 because of how they went about Inquisition. Looking forward to hearing more details.

Well, If you are going off sheer hope, then why wouldn't you hope for a 10?

Realism though dictates you should always go low on expectations.    Here's a little math formula of computing life's happiness and it works great for everything.

Reality - Expectations = Happiness

So if the game is say a 6 and you expected a 10 your happiness with the game is going to be -4.

However if you expected a 4 then your happiness with it is a 2.

I like to temper my hope with the reality of what I personally feel about BW's last games. Sure, I could hope for a 10. Hope is generally the most positive feeling you can get for something. To say it would be less than highest is silly. Nobody would hope things would not be good. What I expect is about a 7 based on ME3 and DAI. I'll bump it to a 7.5 which still isn't bad to be honest. Not a buy it the minute it is released but more like a wait to see what I can read on the forums about it and then look for a used copy if I'm still not excited.

Hope? 10.

Expectation -- 8 or so. I've never met a Mass Effect game I haven't liked, more than most other games out there, but I'm not really in the habit of throwing around perfection either. I think all three original trilogy games were somewhere in the 7.5 to 8.5 in the largely arbitrary scale-o'-Hadeed-affection.

Yeah I like to put my hope completely 10/10 because i like being an optimist and hoping for less than the best game possible seems counter productive.

Expectation- Is entirely in the air, the only thing I have heard that really tells me anything about this game is the Mako being back, and I have to admit not too fond of exploration in Bioware games of late, as it means exploring vast empty spaces and I sign up for story/characters but even then thats a lot of guesswork so no expectation so far except above a 6.0 because its a bioware game!

Hope - 9.

Expectation - 8.

Given DAI's mediocre amount of story (which is silly because that is the single aspect that all Bioware game had tons of in the past) I am not convinced that MEA will be good enough to put Bioware back in my #1 slot. They are getting better (DAI > DA2, ME3 (bar the ending) > ME2), but they still have yet to match their original contenders. DAO is still the best DA game and ME is still better than the sequels. With much of the talent responsible for those great games long gone it is unclear whether Bioware will ever manage to reclaim what they've lost, but I'll hope for the best.

A more personal story? Planets with crazy life-forms like that giant flying creature? Giant advanced technology that rises out of the ground dynamically shifting it's shape/ Return of the Mako that looks like an absolute beast? My hopes are at an 8, and I know that I'll pretty much enjoy whatever they decide to do. Unlike a lot of people Bioware has never shaken my trust in them. I loved DA2, I loved ME3, and I loved Inquisition. I don't know what it is, no matter how much I hype up a game I'm rarely every burned by it. I tend to look at what is there, not what isn't there, which helps I guess. If the game is great as is I'm not going to suddenly think "well it's missing this aspect, so I'm going to score it lower". I judge purely on experience.

What would severely disappoint me is if its too much like ME1 with the planet scanning. I enjoyed traversing beautiful alien cities filled with NPCs and sidequests far more than uncharted planets, and I fear that the concept of a galactic community has been abandoned for the feeling of being lost in space. I feel like this game won't have an Illium or Omega of its own.

It would have been 10/10 because I loved Mass Effect 3 except for the endings but Inquisition was so bad it dropped my hope to 5/10. I am just hoping the game won't be anything like Inqusition.

I quite agree, and feel the same exactly, I had a bit different experience with the game then some, because I played 1 then 2 and quickly went into 3 and 1 was actually one of my least favorites due to the exploration, and part of me is worried they will want to do that again especially with the middle of no where and exploration hint they want more of.

Bioware is great (usually) with plot/characters/ communities less great at exploration as it usually means pretty scenery with a lack of something to do with it.

Which really leaves me scratching my head why people want the exploration back. ME1's exploration was boring once the awe of the skyboxes passed. Inquisition also didn't give me much hope that Bioware can make exploration interesting. Every Inquisition playthrough I've done after the first one was done with minimal side quests. I do what's necessary for power/ scout recruiting for perks, and then stick solely to the character side quests and main story. I don't even hunt for loot anymore, because the Black Emporium carries all the schematics I personally use, and money is not a problem in that game.

Inquisition is a very strange game. I think it's story missions, the Winter Palace being one of the best missions Bioware has done in any of their games, are up to standard. Then we get the in-between content that makes me curious for ME:A. I hope it wasn't too late for them to learn from Inquisition's shortcomings.

That flying creature and those fire tornadoes give me hope though.

Zero.

I expect nothing. Hope for nothing. I judge as it comes before me not when it is coming or when it is going.

I have been shown nothing of Andromeda, and thus to expect anything based on nothing is foolish.

I know it should be at a 4 but it's closer to a 7 or 8.

I know deep down it's going to eschew story for exploration, a la Inquisition, and I know I'll probably dislike the VA and the hair options and just the CC in general, and I'll probably dislike my LI options, but, but, but.
