What is with the perception that the Talon isn't that powerful a character without Cain Mines?

He still can OSK most infantry in the game and dispense of anything armored very, very quickly. I get the low health makes him more difficult to play and the key binding is bullshit but the guy gets dismissed to easily as a one trick pony. AP arrows are one of the best abilities in the game and if not for the completely ****** broken Cain Mines maybe they would get more love. He is still one of the quickest armor killers in the game even if you completely disregard Cain Mines.

Cain mines ruined him for everyone, I think.

I didn't realize there's such a perception. I always thought he's ridiculously powerful, and that's the reason I dislike him. Crappy game design is crappy game design, no way around it.

That's also the reason I dislike GI, but at least with GI you have to be able to aim.

1. Keybindings.

2. For arrows to really be effective, you need to go all martial, which makes you kinda squishy.

3. You pretty much need Omni Blade too.

Sometimes he doesn't work so well off-host, I guess.  AP arrows seem to do no damage off-host with unacceptable frequency.  But you're absolutely right, the Talon Merc arrow builds are extremely powerful.

I often wondered what people's opinions of the cain trip mines would be if they didn't have a 150% multiplier against all defenses.  Probably still extremely powerful, but it would be interesting.

He's incredibly squishy, so he's hardly all that powerful, just severely imbalanced

They just need to fix it where you could detonate the first one after putting out a fourth one. That and fix the proximity detection where they actually work properly. They would still be powerful but not spawn wiping.

Again you can OSK most anything in the game with an AP arrow volley plus charged shotgun shot.

Meanwhile the other enemy has already healthgated you

Talon Merc is perfect the way he is. All offense, zero defense. In all seriousness, the arrows are quite underwhelming. They are good in conjunction with certain weapons like the Acolyte, Venom, etc. But they aren't powerful on themselves.

Not really. I mean are you going to get into trouble on objective waves at times? Sure but over the course of a game on other waves you shouldn't have those issues if you're using RHA and killing properly.

But that can be said about any character, it still comes down to situational awareness and all that other bs

And whether he's powerful or not he's more powerful with cain mines than without

The Cain Mines are what make him fun for me, not lame impersonations of Hawkeye

This was Eric Fangan's favourite and most championed by him latest DLC kit. Not sure if that reveals to much info or not since he was the head balance guy and all... but he did say something along the lines of "This kit is so OP, I can't believe it slipped past the other guys." Back when he gave some tips on him, since everybody back then thought he was useless or something.

No piercing cover with arrows makes RHA a bit of a chore. Along with everything Binary said.

1 is just absolute bs. They should have fixed that before releasing him. The other two fair enough but a lot of kits are fairly niche in weapon load out to be most effective. Talon is no different. I don't see that as a problem.

Because people can't look past the absurd damage that Cain Mines do. After playing around with the Talon quite a bit, I've settled on a no fitness build with Arc Pistol, so I can get the utility of both arrows as well as the spike damage of the mines.

Plus the heavy melee aimbot is good too.
