Hale's voice is nowhere near masculine, but the voice she did for Femshep is a couple of octaves lower than her real voice, and you can really tell at times because it sounds off, especially during her Renegade dialogue in ME2 when she was trying to sound like a badass, it just didn't sound natural, so I can see where people are coming from with the voice thing. Even then she still sounds nowhere near like a guy.
Definitely disagree with this. It sounds very natural to me.

I just wish bioware fixed the cutscenes for the diferent genders, not just make one for the males and reuse every situation for the females. They did this a little in ME1, the scene in chora's den were you meet the drunk c-sec guy (forgot his name), and of course, the romance. But in ME3 (never played ME2 with a femshep) I've seen no scene like this (apart, again, from the romances).
I'm with you on this one.
I'll only play females if given the choice, though I do find it uncomfortable to be playing a female who is quite obviously using a male's animation rig. It's very disconcerting. Of course, it's also annoying when they use the male's rig some of the time and then add some hyper-feminine animations they use at other times in a very very poor attempt to 'balance it out' (which does not work, instead it is a jarring asynchronous clash).

Normally I wouldn't care about gender animations but it was jarring in ME2 when FemShep uses mostly BroShep's animations. They get off easy sharing most their animations together but FemShep is several inches shorter than Kaidan and BroShep. She's smaller too and for most part, animations that fit BroShep didn't mesh well with FemShep.
Like this scene
and the differences during the dancing scenes...
But I do notice FemShep animations definitely improved in ME3. She didn't share BroShep's gait, she's lighter on her feet, she have some slight feminine gestures (but she never had any boob scratching animations) and she's definitely sexier. While we're on the subject, playing a sexy female with a gun is definitely more appealing for me.

I'll play both, but female first. I did the same for ME1, ME2, ME3, DA:O, DA2 and DA:I.

Female in most playthroughs. I may do one playthrough as male, at least if there's some hot gay dude romance in the game.

I typically play as my own sex, for romantic subplot reasons.
If a game doesn't let me choose such a thing then I don't give a **** which.

First - female, second - male, third and next - I don't know.
I have three full ME-1 & ME-2 as a female and five as a male (I know, i'm crazy
) and only three full playthrough in ME-3 (1-female, 2-male).
I wait without patience ME-A and we'll see.

I'll definitely play as a male for my first playthrough and whatever my 'canon' playthrough is (provided that it's not just a stand-alone game).
At some point, I might play as a female. I played ME1 and 2 with two different female characters, but never got either one through ME3. The closest I got was getting onto the Normandy with one of them. I never even loaded the other one. I'm finding that my interest in playing as a female is waning over time. Each game, I'm less and less interested.
Also, lol at the disclaimer in the OP. God forbid that someone mistakes you as a boogeyma......I mean SJW, huh?
I had the same situation but with male sheps, none of them made it to ME3.
I'll start as a female protag, I generally only play male characters to romance the straight girl or in DA:I's case the sexy mustachioed Dorian.
I also tend to prefer female Voice Actors for BioWare's protags, Jennifer Hale, Jo Wyatt, Alix Wilton Regan & Sumalee Montano.

Male. I will most likely never play as female because otherwise I just don't feel a connection between me and my character.
This stance always cracks me up. Hey I can relate to being a galactic superhuman warhero from the future. What's that?
Something is slightly different between the legs? Completely unrelateable!

Yeah, this is a major problem for me. They always do the male scenes and then use the damn same male animation for the female scenes. It's ridiculous.
That's why i prefer neutral animations like ME1. Or at least some obvious differences.

In ME1 it was less noticiable, since broshep was very lean in that game (and I actually preferred him that way, but I digress) and their bodies were more structurally close. But in ME2 broshep started to bulk up and the animations they made for him started to look weird on femshep that continued with the same skinny body. And in ME3 this got especially ridiculous since Broshep was looking like a bodybuilder and femshep was still very skinny and lean. Sometimes she looked like a bloody gorilla LOL. There's no way around it, they need to make different animations for both genders, or the females will aways look masculine.

I definitely don't think they should put that super girly running animation from DAI in to MEA.
Special Ops Commandos don't run like that no matter what sex they are.

Yet you completely ignore all the posts of other people saying that they only play as female because of similar reasons, or because they are female, or because of lesbian romances, etc...
Some people like to play as themselves, and not everyone is a Leonardo da Vinci that can create a version of themselves but of the opposite sex.
Edit: Not sure if you're criticizing him for playing as male, or everyone who says that argument. But going to leave that as it is because I see people act like that all over BSN and the interwebs.

Of course you can play as yourself, you can create something that looks like you and/or act as you would do if you were in his/hers/its position. I usually do it at least once.
The new Facescan that EA is introducing for NBA Live (you can scan your face from your phone and create a character identical to you) could make it much more easier. Since EA studios are starting to cooperate between each other, I'm sure the next ME will have it. I find it very interesting how sport games have better character creators than RPGs...

''I'' do not necessary look like myself, and the character that I create might look a lot more like the ''real'' me that I feel like.
But looks are a very smart part of what I am.
Other than that I guess you are lucky that the choices you are presented with and the responses the character makes are in line with you as a person. When I roleplay a character and am presented with choices, the ones that are given to me that match what I would actually do in that situation are maybe 5-10% of the time max.

I would say that is more to do with the nature of Sports games than RPGs.
Sports games are basically the same every year, so they need a shinny to get people to buy the newer version. NBA has Facescan, Fifa 16 has better AI & some of the women's football teams etc.
Apart of these changes the gameplay will probably be very similar to the gameplay of last year's version. RPGs on the other hand tend distinguish themselves due to the nature of how they are designed & developed.
That is not to say that I'm deriding these changes, Facscan looks cool & it's nice to finally see women in a major sports title.

It's not the running animation, it's how the character behave in the cutscenes. The animations are clearly done for the muscular broshep, and look weird on femshep. You know how those gym dudes walk with their arms and legs more open because of the muscles right? Well, femshep doesn't have such muscles, thus the animation looks weird on her.

Being a woman, I don't have a problem playing male in many RPGs nor do I have a problem reading a book with male perspectives. I think playing as a different gender is an RP experience by itself. But weirdly enough, I do find there's a lot of people who find its inconceivable and abhorrent to play as a female character. Maybe its understandable since female space marine in gaming are rare unlike male space marines (Master Chief etc). Plus, Shepard represent the best of humanity. I think some find its hard to believe a woman would achieve such recognition.
I really hate DA2's female running animations. At least, I could mod it. But I don't expect fictional female soldiers to act with exaggerated masculinity just to show that she's tough as the rest of the guys.
As for wanting a more muscular version of a female character, even in ME2, she do have some muscle definition in her arms. I do like the buff FemShep mod for ME3 but I like her the way she is. I don't think she needed to bulk up just to look like she's strong than the rest especially since all soldiers in ME verse was physically enhanced by implants.
